I was admiring those 3 pretty Queens

posted and thought I should post the 2 hard working fellows from years gone by in my pocket. That D2 Bullnose
paulhilborn
gave to me must have been 5 or so years ago now that knife has served me well Paul and still is and I have put it to the test a few times. The same thing for that Schrade Old Timer 5OT I've put that knife through the paces several times in it's life and I'm still at it. Difference is I bought that one 10 or more years ago and it's one of the best EDC knives I ever had.

Couple of captivating classics, Randy!

You were asking about companies that made knives for the US military…
I know that Camillus, Imperial, and PAL mafe the USN Easy Open Utility Jack, Camillus made the all steel Demo Knives and the USA marked Camp Knives. And KA-BAR and Camillus made fixed blades and bayonets. Later, Cunetta and Ontario as well.
Case had military contracts, and then there are all those who made the TL-29.
I am sure there were others, but that’s all I know of without looking it up.
Wait~ Cattaraugus, of course.
Thanks for the info, Jeff.

You might find this interesting. It's a link to pdf with Camillus production numbers for knives delivered to Armed Forces 1941-1946:
http://www.collectors-of-camillus.us/History/Camillus-Military-1941-1945s.pdf
• also contains diagrams and notes regarding all the knives sent to military, and mentions what other companies were making similar knives for the various armed services.
I agree. The pen is noticeably bigger than the peanut but still very compact due to the thin, slim frame. Although I still carry my peanuts too.
Yeah, I think the Peanut is 2 7/8" and the Pen is 3 3/8", so 1/2" difference. I knew the Pen Knife was bigger, but hadn't realized it was that much bigger.
Cool pic of that classic Case Canoe!

I usually only tote 1 or 2 knives at a time, but toted the whole collection upstairs today for a photo op. (saw a similar pro photo with props online that I liked, so I added a few props)
I lean toward canoes, so canoes and similar folders get the top shelf. The new Bladeforums knife fits in nicely with the canoes.
Very nice box for your knives, and lots of appealing canoes!

What is the red one in the lower right of the top drawer?
Thanks - I wish that we could see more canoes. I do a search for the word "canoe" here just to see what turns up. mot much. And I'd like to see the knife companies make more canoes.
I searched for threads with titles containing "canoe" and got 8 pages worth of threads, some with only a couple of posts, some with lots of posts (and the older ones often have lots of missing images). I'd be thrilled to see a Case chestnut jigged bone canoe some day!

Very pretty pair of wood knives, Bob!

(And I'm a fan of Killian's Red, too.

Walnut Wednesday is wonderful, Steve!

Have a great day everyone.

Couple of charming barlows, Todd, featuring desirable blades!

(I'd probably prefer a single knife having both spear and lamb blades, but that's just the way I was raised.

)
Beautiful tiger wood on this #85

W! Beautiful is right!

$3 seems WAY underpriced for that trio!

That's a splendid stockman: slender, round bolsters, low-riding sheepsfoot, wood-brass combo!

View attachment 2384078A couple of adds to the growing Rough Ryder collection. Both have half-stops and good fit and finish. The Stockman has a hairline crack (see arrow) in the scale, but for the price paid is not worth returning.
...
I have an All-Stripes sowbelly stockman like that; like it a lot!

That Case canoe is killer Gary, the patina looks fantastic.

Thanks, Todd; I agree with you.

(But the guy in the canoe on the blade etch thinks the patina is a threatening thundercloud rolling up on him!

Golden Stockman fills your eyes; smiles await you when you rise!

Like butter
Geno doesn't like pressure... he rattles easily.
Didn't know that.
If you like the size and feel of the 50t, don't overlook the Uncle Henry "Smokey". Nearly identical dimensions w/ a clip point, wood covers, and brass bolsters. My mind always assumed they were much larger than they actually are because they so closely resemble the big schrades, Buck 110s, etc. You can pick up an older US made one relatively cheap, and they're built like a tank!
Thanks for the tip, Chris; I'll check into that.

Gotta admit that I'm not much of a clip point fan; a big draw for me with the 5OT is the drop point blade.
Thanks, Gary.
Paired with a pen, positively pleasant in the pocket.
Well said, Rachel!

Thanks Gary and I'm glad to hear that your wife is recovering well !
Thanks for the kind words, Steve.

I loaded the car this morning with over 100 pounds of "equipment" for her to take to one of her craft classes for today and tomorrow. (Since I had to load her biggest machine - 50+ pounds I'd guess - it must be an embroidery class of some kind.)
Yup, it is. Really a nice one. I like the belly they put on the blade, too.
Thanks for the confirmation, Jer.

Two lookers there Gary
...
Thanks buddy, I was pleased to see the good news about your wife

Funny you should ask
that!

...
Thanks for the compliments on my canoes, Jack.

I have to admit that the fake stag on the Chinese Uncle Henry doesn't have the élan of the old Staglon.
Thanks for your thoughtful concern for my wife, and for the interesting link concerning the "muddy" origins of "Billy-o"!

How do those P90's in that Epi sound? I just rebuilt an Agile PS900 and put a set of Guitar Madness clones of Gibson P94's ALINCO 2 magnets not the ones with ceramic magnets and it sounds great, Bourne pots, Switchcraft switch Gavitt wire TUSQ XL nut Grover locking tuners.

I put in bold the only part of this post I could understand; the rest seems like secret knowledge communicated between a pair of wizards!

That's a supercool old Hammer Brand cattle knife!

Hello all! I started on my second ever chess set last night with my new-to-me SM Whittler. I’m still digging on these little clip points found on some of the whittlers.

Cool! Can you share a photo of your first chess set?
