Clarksville? Nashville? Memphis? Chattanooga?I'm getting ready to go to Tennessee for a week or two
My place (still feels weird to say that) is on the Cumberland Plateau, about 65 miles from Knoxville.Clarksville? Nashville? Memphis? Chattanooga?
I used to live in Clarksville.
TN.has got to be the most laid back state I ever been to.
While going to a recycling yard to get a "new" engine for the boss' Toyota pickup, in 1998
(truck was T-boned and totalled less than a year later by a 18 wheeler that "missed" the curve in the road).
I saw a barn with flames escaping from the eaves.
Naturally, I stopped and knocked on the door, to let the guy know his barn was burning, (no fire department or viewers around yet.)
"Ol boy slowly mosied the 12 feet to the corner of his portch, looked around the corner to see his barn ... calmly rubbed his chin, said (quote) "welll ... guess I best call someone ... thanks fir 'lettin me know ..." then slowly mosied back inside.
The FD was there (with some folks watching) when I went past a couple hous later, after getting the engine.
Turns out it was a "tobacco smoking" barn, The smoking fire got a "little bit" out of control/out of hand. ccording to the paper the next day.
I suppose he had insurance for such an eventuality.
i don't know how much of his crop he lost. The barn (and contents) burned to the ground. Just the stone foundation and a few timbers still burning when I went by on my way home.
Hope the CT brings to correct resultsStaying home this morning but have an appointment for Cindy for a CT-Scan late this afternoon. Lunch at the Wagon Wheel Cafe before we go for the appointment. Sausage and eggs for breakfast. This CV Sowbelly will be my carry today.

Stan didn't like long-pulls, mainly because he put his nail-nicks in with the strike of a hammer I suspect!I think a long-pull can look OK on a Lambsfoot, but I prefer a nick I think. I like the long, deep ones, like on the knife below Stan's fancy one, which is one of the Guardians 2018 SFO

Sorry Barrett, my memory has failed me. I stand corrected! The Cossack was only ever that single story building, though it was well-known, as you will have discovered. I remember it stood empty for a few years, and I remember reading an article about a campaign to save it. I'd forgotten about Kayes, which I never went in. I forget what the other shop was, a jewellers possibly. The Howard is an awful pub, usually full of football hooligans drinking bottled lagerWhen I was young, Howard Street was quite an important thoroughfare, as it lead to the train station, and there were some interesting shops, including The Olde Wee Cutlery Shoppe, and Bennett's fishing tackle shop (I used to tie trout flies for them). Most of the buildings, at the top of the street, on the opposite side of the road, are still there, but they are mainly just sandwich shops and cafes now, and even 'The Globe' pub, the only good one on the street, has changed a lot. Thanks for the memories my friend
