The SOG is a gem. I used to have the Tomcat. It was the sharpest thing on the place, back in the day. Excellent piece!!

Even though production/non-custom, knife makers no longer jig by hand, Case really has it figured out.

Anyone else relate to the Progressive ‘Dr. Rick’ commercial where he’s at the dumpster with ‘homeowners becoming their parents’ and making them throw stuff away? I have too much stuff. But, one of the benefits is that you re-discover things!! I stumbled across this Whittler Set while digging through my Man Cave. The blades need some work, but this find was a pleasant surprise!!

Ever seen the Schrade Special Edition 881Y Stockman Whittler’s set? It came in a special box with wood for carving, and instructions.

Edit to add: yes! That series of commercial is one of the very few that I do not mute the audio on. Good stuff.

Send them off to be reprofiled. That's what I did with mine. They are way too thick in their current state. I'm not sure what Warren was thinking putting a saber grind on them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume that with the re-profiled blades, I’ll be able to turn out carvings equivalent to the Jiki masterpieces?!?

Thats a nice score. I can remember paying about $100 for the Tomcat at the time. It hadn’t been on the market long. That was an astronomical price for a production knife back then, it seemed.

This is one I constantly carried for a dozen or so years in my pocket along with keys and coins with no slip, just the bare naked knife..



After the Kraton handles wore off, I then made a leather slip to carry it in and to act as handles. Works great and I still carry it frequently.
