What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I had a bunch of quotes saved up, but some computer glitch dumped them all! I recovered some, but not all, of them and found some more recent things to add as well.

....
Worked from home today, so was free from the knife size restrictions of the engineering building. And I took advantage of it.

Your Carhartt punch stockman is very appealing, Frank!

I love the sunny photos of those fine knives, Steve!

Birthday party carry for my 2 lovely granddaughters.

Cute girls and grandpa! The commemorative knives are a fantastic idea!

Until I saw your recent posts, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Winchester canittler; very intriguing! How big, and how old, is that knife?

Antonini Cable assists with the preparation of an Advent Baby woofer for new a new foam surround. The Advents were my parent's, circa 1985. I have no idea if these will work or not. Crossovers may have expired from old age too. My first time refoaming a speaker. 🤞
Think I'll drink lots of coffee to steady my hands 😃
Cool project, Mike! I know almost nothing about audio equipment, but back in the mid-1970s, I was trying to put together a stereo system that included an amp and homemade speakers I bought from a guy who needed cash for a cross-country motorcycle trip, and I added an entry-level Pioneer turntable. What I REALLY wanted back then was a pair of small Advent speakers, but I never did get them. They sure sounded good to me at that time!

Yes, that’s nice stag.
Thanks, Jeff.

Those were pretty useful little tractors back in the 50's . Obviously not as powerful as the H's and M's but there were plenty of jobs for them .

Harry
Cool little Farmall! I put in a lot of hours driving Farmall H and M models back on the dairy farm where I grew up. We had an F20, too, but almost never used it when I was old enough to drive. (I don't think I EVER did get that sucker started with its crank.)

Old stag Tuesday 🦌😊

We are not worthy!!

They had to resort to all kinds of stuff before Mr. Dupont invented Delrin, didn’t they?

That's a handsome stockman!

Congrats on your Mohawk canoe! I have one of those which is certainly in my top 3 canoes, I think.

Awesome Sowbelly! I love the groved bolsters & badge shield 👍
Those black box sowbellys appear to be a standard "must-have". I'm going to have to find myself one! 👍🏻
Thanks, guys. I think all the Winchester black box models are probably superb knives, but (unless there's a black box canoe I'm not aware of) the sowbelly stockman is my favorite.

Congrats! What materials are used for the bolsters and covers?

An under appreciated Boker. Maybe because it strays a little from most traditionals.
Atlas Shrugged!

Wow! I bet that was an ambrosial discovery!
🤣
Nectar of the Gods, for sure!

I am no Brit I’m English, you North American continent you. 🤣🤣🤣

Or Limey if you prefer,I love where that name came from. 😎
I never know how general or specific to be when referring to people's location. Should I refer to their galaxy, or solar system, or planet, or hemisphere, or continent, or nation, or state, or county, or city, or neighborhood, or street, or block, or building???

Love that BSA knife, Gary! 👍
Thanks, Jim. I have another very similar one, but with white handle covers.

I don't even know what you guys are talking about 🤪
Mike, I wouldn't worry about it. When I'm talking, half the time I don't know what I'm talking about either!

That Old Timer stockman with the serrated sheepsfoot is very nice! (I have an oriental version of that knife - Blazer, I think. Mine came with a deck of cards showing Schrade knife models.)

Great memory on the best features of Reader’s Digest, Gary. Those are ones I invariably read.
Nice to see your near twin to my red Pioneer, and thanks for straightening me out on Soldier vs Pioneer.
And thanks for the compliments!
Actually, I couldn't remember the name of the monthly section of military jokes and had to look it up to get Humor in Uniform.
That red Pioneer is one of my favorite knives that I got for a great price in a consignment store (aka junk shop) in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Stuff (and no nonsense). 😁

Ice cream with a quiff whats that all about then? 🤣

That soft ice cream looks like it has been outside around here the last few days ....... wind blown ! 🌪️🤣 Yum !

I noticed your clock matches the color of your bike !😊

I like your old tools and the Knipex pliers quite a bit.😍

Bahco Sweden adjustable wrench, never heard of them ....... I'll ask Google. ;)🤣 Do you favor them over the adjustable pliers wrench by Knipex ?🤔

Stickers on all of your tool boxes ............ looks like your memory is failing. ;)🤣

Nice Viper !😍🐍

He always gives me a big dollop and it then leans.

colour match intentional and the only colour they had anyway.😍

Bahco are very good as are the knipex sometimes/situations one works better than the other.

Memory failing, sorry who are you again, where am, I is it dinner time yet??? 🤣 🤣 🤣

Thanks, buddy. Like you I didn't have to wander far to find one I wanted at the show. Not the first vendor table I viewed but maybe only the fourth or fifth.
Took me nearly 3 weeks to delete 1,000 pics one at a time, terrible way to spend several evenings. Gary can check my math but if you go at my rate you're at it for roughly
30 weeks.
 ;)
Your proportional reasoning looks right on target, Greg!
I'm holding off on deleting photos, just to get some extra space that's going to fill up again very quickly. So far, posting via postimage is working reasonably well for me.

I suppose 10,000 was a wee exaggeration, but I’ve got it down under 5K now. Deleting mid 2019 right now. Paying the price for posting nonsense and gobbledygook every day!

Nothing else to do, because I’ve got the ‘Vid. My 90 yr old Dad got hauled off to the emergency room Sunday. I spent the entire day with him down there in Aurora, in close contact ~ moving him, helping him pee, etc. pretty much like a nurse, Then the ER doc came in and said “guess who’s got covid?” His covid is pretty much under control, but it seems to have triggered some kind of mental break or dementia. So I was hoping in vain to be there when his doctor popped in on rounds. Not sure Mom absorbs everything, or asks the right questions.
Then I spent all day Tuesday with him and Mom in his room, so I guess I was asking for it. Not as bad as the first time I had it, really just a slammin’ flu, and I got hold of my doc early enough to get started on Paxlovid.

The good news is that I got out of cleaning house. We had planned on having a bunch of family out for Easter, but that aint happenin now. And I guess I’ll just have to smoke that 20lb turkey for just the three of us😉
Sorry to hear that you and your dad have come down with COVID, Jeff! Hope you both can beat it soon. Had you mostly recovered from your fall (and got back sleeping in your own bed) before COVID hit you?

Good and bad moments, we’re sitting down having a cheese and fruit platter so I figured I’d bring out one of my favourite knives.

Managed to get one ok photo with some blue cheese and my Celeste fig. I sat the knife down and was chatting to my wife when she noticed one of my boys was dragging it across the concrete. Not overly happy!

Good source for family stories, with visual aids, as time goes by.

Ahead of you on that mate.

Started at 400 and worked up to 1500 just now. All but a few of the deepest ones are gone. I’ll buff the bolster up at some point to match the other side.

Man, you fixed that up fast and well!

When I hear "Böker Barlow", that's the vintage that comes to mind for me, Bob! (Any main blade will do: clip, spear, sheepsfoot.)

Happy Friday !

Dandy dark duo, Steve! (Is that "black ice", too?)

That tribal lock is a sharp knife
Thanks; I agree. I had many reservations when I bought it, since it had a lot of features that really weren't favorites for me: too big, single blade, lockback blade, stainless steel. But after I got it and started trying it out, I was VERY glad to have it!

Ahem...

There once was a knife in Manhasset,
That was prized as a valuable asset,
Though because not to use it,
Would be the same as to lose it,
It's been prised from its tubular casket.

That Utica is a perfect example of that iconic pattern, Rob!

All of the post image photos popped back up. Maybe they just had some issues with their site. Everything is working again and the photos are showing here in the forums as they were before.
I've noticed that my postimage photos have disappeared and reappeared several times. I don't know how "image hosting" works, but I wonder if post image sometimes can't maintain all of the images they're hosting when there is high demand, or lots of traffic, or whatever.

Two particularly nice ones!
Thanks!

Big fan of Staglon here!

Due for about an inch and a half of rain today and some of the locals are looking for ark builders.
It's a good day to carry one of my favorites. A Case Humpback stockman with ebony covers and what I would term to be a "zulu" spear blade in Tru-Sharp.
Bw7JvtD.jpg
That ebony humpback stockman is a very elegant stockman variant!

Thank you !
Yes, I love cocobolo, even when it darkens. I don't know what it is about it but it is probably my favorite wood. I like it more than ebony and blackwood.

Oh no, you got me in a whole lot of trouble with the chickadee god of the forest !!!

Your comment greatly upset him after all that his chickadees have done for the Porch.

I had to rush out to the forest to bring my cocobolo handled knife and a peace offering.

Fortunately my gift and profuse apologies were accepted ... this time 😌

Another Old Timer stockman with the serrated sheepsfoot! I have one of those (Chinese version) and hardly ever see them here, but this is the second one I've seen this week.

Happy Easter fellow porchsters...

I also put in quite a bit of time driving tractors but never drove any as old as the Farmall F series . I never even had to try to start any of them with a Crank . Apparently the early Crank Starting ones broke a lot of arms from Engine Kick Back before they came out with Spring Loaded Cranks . Lots of farmers around still had those old F-12's , F-14's , and F-20's , but they kind of let them set around . Early John Deere's had a big Flywheel that you had to rotate by hand to start it and I did drive some of them . I lived for the day to drive a Farmall Super MD and they started that Diesel engine with a small gasoline engine .

Happy Wooden Wednesdays Porchafarians! Just picked kid up from school in downtown KC, all of the on-street parking is now pay via app only (smartphone req'd to park☹️) and suddenly vigorously enforced. I refuse to do the car line thing. So in an ironic twist, the closest "free" parking I can now find is in Epsteins Hardware's lot. Been wanting this leather hammer awhile anyways...

Pocket tote change to:
(1) CASE 3318CV Yellow Stockman.
(2) CASE 62131CV Amber (Peach Seed?) Jigged Bone Canoe.
IMG_20240403_172330.jpg
The Canoe been calling to me.
I figure I may as well tote the 3318 with it ... ("CASE/CASE" is an acceptable pairing, right?)
and, try to get accustomed to a small stockman ...
and, get a patina underway. 🤔😊

A "California Clip Point" (or is it a "Turkish Clip Point"? 🤔) is just as "sturdy"/"useful" as a regular Clip Point ... "gotta" be ... else cutlers wouln't use it?
