What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'm carrying a couple of Rough Riders as my Canoes of the Week.

RR amber jigged bone canoe is the first canoe I ever handled. When it first arrived in a set of 12 RR patterns with matching covers, I intended to carry each pattern for a week to get to know each pattern and discover which ones I preferred. When this canoe got its first turn, I liked it so much that I carried it for a month straight, instead of a week. I've been a committed "canoesseur" ever since then.

RR Tobacco Road canoe is one of my most recent canoe acquisitions (until Friday, when a July 4th knife order arrived that included 4 canoes and 6 other knives).

Well my sister's baby shower went well yesterday. Me & my cargo ship (Chevrolet Tahoe) got pressed into service hauling a bunch of baby stuff, all the decor & gifts that were needed. The family got her well set up for a new mom. Then of course after my services were no longer needed I had to depart 🤣 (only women allowed at the party)
So I just went down & spent some time walking the property & decided to take a few pics.
I still carried the same "vintage as me" Winchester jack & added this Case Copperlock. Figured the baby/sky blue was fitting for my upcoming nephew.

How many of y'all know about or remember these? When we were kids we called them doodle bugs... (They're really called ant lions)

Vernors! I remember the factory in, IIRC, Hamtramck, Michigan had these large, street facing windows where you could watch it being made. That was when they were a small, local company before they got swallowed up by a conglomerate. It was the only ginger ale I thought was fit to drink. In fact it was my favorite soda when I drank soda 👍👍👍
Mike, did you really call it "soda" back then? o_O 🤓
I thought Michigan kids always called soft drinks "pop", but maybe that was a West Michigan thing.

Decided on my old John Primble India Steel Works Jack (c.1890-1940) for Monday. 😊
Oiled the joints too.

I'm mesmerized! 😲:thumbsup:😲

Been awhile since I carried this rosewood Case carpenters whittler, tossed it in the pocket this morning.

Wonderful Hank Williams whittler, Greg! :thumbsup::thumbsup:🤓

If I ever have to get up at the crack of dawn to be in the office by 8 am again I'm sure I'd sing a different tune!
A leisurely start to the day is certainly a benefit of retirement! 🤓:thumbsup::thumbsup:
(Unfortunately, no matter when I go to bed, I get up before 5am. :rolleyes:)

Splendid knife, Jeff! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Today's carry, new to me and happy with the all the usual criteria of fit and finish. Very smooth opening for a sod buster.

Congrats on your new rough black SBJr! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
I have one just like that, and I'm also very happy with it!

Time for bed, near 2am here, I'm no Lark but a unrepentant Owl 🦉

I will be carrying this on Tuesday- shot is poor but midnight sun and all that just to give you the idea. Many thanks to @Oldy for doing a trade over this and very.
big hand to @pat9198 for helping out in a vital fashion 🏆

Never say never. I don't have any blue knives as don't like the colour too much on knives...and...not seen the sense in single Spey knives. Here we have the 39 in a very nice cobalt blue Micarta with long graceful Spey ( a graceful Gelding blade???:eek:o_O ) Superb finish and an interesting and different knife, where I do stay a stick in the mud is that I prefer the single blade. If it has 2 blades ,then I greatly prefer them each end not same end.For if it has 2 springs then I want 3 blades as Whittler or Stockman.

Congrats on the new knife, Will, and thanks for sharing the rationale for some of your knife preferences! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Stopped for Chinese on our way home from our vacation. In my pocket? This 36 year old specimen @Rookie82 let me buy off him when we met for dinner last week. Thanks for the cool souvenir!
Cool souvenir, indeed! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Definitely an Ace! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Moki Pliant - Quince wood

New for me. Very nice.
According to the definition post lockbacks seem to be allowed and others have posted the fish owl (which also looks amazing!)
Magnificent Moki curved lockback Barlow! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hope everyone is safe from heat and storms.🙏
Superb pair of knives, Bob! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Maybe today. I've been going with my yellow Case 47 a lot lately.

Yup, that was nice. It has traffic on it now. Too bad, but money wants, money gets.
Tough to say no to a Case '47 stockman; that's my 2nd favorite Case stockman model, after the sowbelly stockman. :cool::cool::thumbsup:
Although I grew up only about 30 miles north of Kalamazoo, and went to high school in Kalamazoo, I don't think I ever visited the downtown mall.

Thanks Gary :)
It takes a special kind of skill to crash a stationary bike 🤪
😁 Sounds like you were heavily involved in multitasking at the time, though, which may have distracted you from noticing imminent mechanical failure!

Yessir ~ Hollyhocks.

It is one year older than me.
But I gave up a ‘52 “Banner Head” J45 in trade to get it.
Thanks for the info, Jeff. :):thumbsup:

@Amir Fleschwund Jeff, this year I have kept the bird bath stocked with mosquito dunks. It may be my imagination, but I think it helps by sterilizing part of the population. I don't have to fight them so bad picking blackberries.

@mbkr sorry to hear of the stationary bike issue. I'll have to be careful riding during PT.

Only one I picked up of this run, great bone, great shield, great knife even if it has a spey.

When we get tired of eating them, we make blackberry jam. House smells wonderful during this process.

Ribeyes smoked then kissed by fire. Used kitchen string to keep them moist and hold them together. Carpe diem!

Knife, berries, and ribeyes all look delicious! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

🫣 pardon my pearl harbor mistake Gary.

Perhaps the lettering was a personalization of knif.
Bob, I hadn't even made the "pearl" connection! :oops: I was just thinking about the "redcoat knife" (from Sheffield?) surrounded by a couple of knives from the former "revolting colonies".

Good point about the etching on the Engelswerks knife. :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Well, you know that they say, "Great minds think alike".

I grabbed the same knife this morning. At least I think mine is chestnut bone. Had it too long and I don't think I ever wrote down the bone color. Mine has "a little" blade rub as such things are measured on Case Stockmans.

Sure looks like chestnut bone to me, Frank! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I'd probably say yours is a darker variant than some knives have. Here's a photo of my chestnut Case models that shows the variability in the color of chestnut bone.

Unfortunately it’s kind of buried in the garage at the moment. Haven’t had it out in a couple years. 🫤 It does have this ability to give other items stored in the garage with it a distinct “old car” smell, like the camp chairs we took to watch fireworks tonight (rescheduled from the 4th due to the weather). It’s the Checker’s little way of making sure it isn’t forgotten. 🤣

Thanks for the "Checker update", Barrett! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Is that Case a pen knife?

Thanks Gary. It’s my favorite that I’ve done.

I like it too but above about 105 is too much for me.
:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I guess I was thinking esoteric.
My mind went to Pearl Harbor.🥴

Love the pickup.
I had a short bed '67 a few decades ago.
The 360/390 is a torque monster as well. And, when in proper tune, the driver's right foot isn't lead ... and the cargo is under 1,000 pounds, fairly thrifty on how much fuel it sips.

Curious ... Looks like she's been sitting more than 6 months or so. ☹️🥺
How many wasp nests are in the cab, and the engine air cleaner?

Just goes to show you how my mind does not work.

I was thinking Pearl Harbor.🥴
