What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

GkANt5D.jpg

I consider the Peanut to be "3-finger" knife and the Tiny Trapper to be "2-finger". Where I worked, the company had a limit of 2" blade length and 4 1/2" overall length. 2" blade length was not a problem, but the OAL limit was a severe limitation. The Tiny trapper was about the only traditional knife I could legally carry, other than an SAK Classic. Even a Peanut was too large.

Thanks for the visual. Wow, that's smaller than I expected. Very cool.

Today I've got a #215124LB Bull Buster from GEC and a #1 Silly Goose from the Dominican Republic. Meet Jelly Bean.

Jelly Bean is a chiweenie (half chihuahua - half dachshund) that was displaced when Tropical Storm Karen hit the Dominican Republic in 2019. Rescued and relocated to South Florida, she spent a few months in a cast following the breaking of her neck, by jumping off of a couch, shortly after her adoption. She made a full recovery, is five years old, weighs 13 pounds, and is very feisty. She likes dehydrated chicken treats more than knives.

Of all the knives I've had the pleasure of knowing, this 21 has been more resistant to "breaking in" than any other. The red linen micarta has seemingly not mellowed in time at all and glares as brightly, like a stop sign in the high beams, as on the day I received it. The action refuses to become "glassy" despite excessive fondling and lubrication. I've taken to using it in the yard in a fruitless attempt to get it to smooth out but I can almost hear it laughing at me. I'm convinced that had it been done in stainless, it would look identical to how it slid from the tube. Oh well, I'll keep trying!

That's the opposite of the dark red one which I had. It faded out to a pink color just sitting in a drawer. I polished it back to red and cut her loose. ;)🤣
Loved the story of Jelly Bean ! 😍

More catch-up posts on my part.

Home today - a slew of doctor appointments the rest of the week. Going for an echocardiogram Wednesday. Maybe the result will be that Dan @sf fanatic and I both got Rhythm. I'll tote this RR Sowbelly today. Might make it a Sowbelly week. Sausage and pancakes for breakfast.

I hope all the doctoring has good results, ED.:thumbsup:
If you're taking a vote, I'm completely in favor of your plan for a week of sowbellies!:cool::thumbsup:
Is your RR stainless or carbon? I have a carbon RR sowbelly stockman that's one of my favorites.

Today I’m totin’ an old Remington unofficial Scout Knife with bail, probably about 100 years old.
Impressive vintage scout! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

I think knarfeng knarfeng recently posted a Case canoe just like yours. You guys could be the Blues (canoes) Brothers!:thumbsup:🤓

W😲W! I think you've posted green, black, and white versions of that sowbelly recently, right? Superb!:thumbsup::cool:

When the cashier gives me a total at the checkout, I always convert it into quantity of knives I could buy 😂. Anyone else do this?

I don't do that conversion, but I might start if you think it might help me finance a handsome bone stag Case (mini?) trapper like that one! 🤓:thumbsup:

Carrying this new to me 88 today:

Something seems faulty about your logic, Jack, but I can't put my finger on it. o_O😁

Yes, I love the 88 from GEC. The only versions I missed are the 88 ironwood, 88 diamond king acrylic, and 88 beaver peach seed jigged bone. Those last two I listed are more rare.

Thanks, GT!

Which Dickens novel is that a quote from? 🧐😁
Dickens? David Copperhead ? I was thinking The Shining by Stephen King :D Mind you, it could be Dickens' Bleak House (one of King's favourite works I hear) But there again, perhaps Dostoevsky's Zapiski iz Myortvovo Doma ? 🤣

Was that from the same '24 run? I ask because I had been hoping to pair a Red Linen Micarta 86 'Bull Hide Carver' Harness Jack with a Red Linen Micarta 21 'Bull Buster' and have a matching bull-themed carry that includes a clip point or sheepsfoot blade, drop point blade, and a punch.

My thoughts included "That'll look snazzy👍," "Plenty of utility with those blade options 👍," and "How much variation could there be with red linen micarta? 🤔 Not much I'd wager! 👍" - but on the last point, I turned it to be very wrong.

The red linen micarta used for the 86s and 21s couldn't be more different from each other. Different textures, different colors, different weaves, looks like even different grades of linen if that's a thing - just totally different. Color wise the 86 came a dusky red that has settled into just slightly lighter than brick red. The 21 arrived stop sign red, as mentioned, and has remained that way - even with plenty of hand oil and sunlight exposure. Side by side under UV light, they even fluoresce completely differently.

Considering how dramatically the natural linen examples from the same run darkened from a warm butterscotch to a leathery brown, it makes me think that perhaps the red linen micarta used for the 21 run had UV stabilizers added to the resin that maybe the natural linen (and the red linen from the 86 run) didn't have...

... or maybe I've just spent too much time thinking about something I know nothing about. It's a distinct possibility. 😂
