What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Today finds me carrying my Laguiole de l'Artisan with 12C27 blade, snakewood (amourette) handles, brass bolsters, and fileworked spring. I don't have a scanner next to my desk so can't just pop up a photo...

I've been eating a lot of apples lately, and needed a longer blade than some of my usual "office carry" knives. Been using a large Queen Texas Toothpick (D2, Cocobolo) lately, but wanted to experience the class of the Laguiole for a while. It usually sits at home on the dining table.

Put an edge on this guy and have been trying it out. I like the fact that there are no tangs sticking out of the frame when it's closed.

Oh My Greg,

That EE Sleeveboard looks like a real joy to carry. And that stag is something extra special. Is that stainless steel or 1095 or ATS-34 or something else?

Today I see this thread here, and look for the first time... Me today? That double lockback RR I showed in the canoe thread, like every day this week, its become a nice shirt pocket knife.

And I realize thinking about my stable of folders, I have one I have never actually carried. It started life as a Camillus rough cut carbon V stockman, I made it a one blade jack(?) with bocote wood and a 30-30 cartridge head shield. Did it for a companion knife for my 30-30 winchester. But I always forget it when I take the rifle out. So, today it goes with me.

That makes a nice trio with the ever present Camillus whittler made from a broken bladed small vintage stockman.

The last two days I've been experimenting. I took a deep breath and put my 2007 blade forums knife in my pocket and used it. It's opened mail, cut a sub sandwich in half so Karen and I could split it out in the park, I whittled a small personal totam stick to leave in a planter box while me and Pearl waited outside a store. Then I used it to slice some all beef franks open down the middle for grilling.

It's a nice knife!

SunyD. I'm not sure what steel is used for the blades. I can usually get an idea when I sharpen them but this one was a bit different. It was fairly hard to put a new edge on and seems to hold one well. It is a stainless but I can't say for sure which. I believe this was S&M's version of a baby sunfish. It's been in storage for about 6 or 7 years and I finally got around to using it.

PS
I just did a search on this knife and the blades are 420HC. Surprisingly tuff steel which goes to show you what decent heat treating will do.

I'm back to my Queen D2 Toothpick today. The Laguiole is a very nice knife, but a little wide/long/thick for "work" trousers. The Toothpick is much flatter, and still cuts an apple with aplomb (no, not "a plum"; that requires a different knife... :)).

Lately I've been carrying a family Heirloom of sorts. My father-in-law's Schrade 3OT. It's a small, Peanut sized knife that was in his pocket the day he passed from this world. My wife carried it for years before we met, and now I'm carrying it. One day my daughter will carry it and hopefully it will be passed down to my grandkids. It's a little lockback in SS, but still traditional me thinks (are lockbacks considered traditional?) and a very cool little knife.

just my ka-bar little finn and my fathers old vic (he never carried knives, but that was one he loved.)
