Had a surprise visit from an old friend yesterday. We got to know him and his wife when our sons became best buds in Boy Scouts, and then formed their first rock 'n roll band in high school.
He is a long time Belgian Malinois owner and trainer, even to the level of participating in Ring Sport and Schutzhund events around the country. He's also a scary good guitarist. When I say scary, I mean he left his rock 'n roll behind and dived into jazz, lately transcribing Gershwin and clarinet solos. So between dogs and guitars, we had plenty to catch up on.
I mention all this because when he arrived, Vik was out back with Duncan, so we went out on the deck so he could meet the pup. It was so mild temperature wise, that we were able to sit out there, drink coffee, and visit. I'm under no illusion that winter is over, but don't remember ever sitting around chatting comfortably in shirtsleeves in mid February before.

Been a little absent lately. After returning home from my Dad’s funeral my younger brother passed away so another couple of weeks taking care of his arrangements has taken up my free time. Spent this last weekend enjoying myself in Pendleton Oregon at a birthday celebration at the rodeo grounds. Finally something fun!! I don’t drink bourbon but I grabbed this for a co-worker who covered my duties at work. I thought if I’m heading to the rodeo grounds I’d better at least carry a calf roper for the weekend…

Jim, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, so soon after you father. That's a lot in a short time. I'm glad you got some fun in, too. Take care of yourself and I hope you grieve well and find some peace after all that.

Sorry for the loss of your brother.
Hopefully the good memories of your dad and brother will ease your pains.
