I tried forcing a patina with instant coffee, this is the result. The smaller one (nr 8) is new, the nr 10 has been with me some years. After I loaned the 10 to someone who left it soaking in the kitchen sink it needed some renovation so I thought to try something new. Both knives handles are bathed in oil and waxed, I packed the pivot areas with petroleum jelly. These are both very sharp as my thumb can testify. I must say I really like Opinel knives, I plan to get a nr 5 and mod it.

.....I used wet coffee grinds and got the same color......except blotchy because it was in the grinds and gravity aided in making the tip the blackest...
