That's an interesting one Andy, one I'm not familiar with either? More info?:)

Sorry, didn't see you question until now. This is a sheep shear knife made by a fellow in Australia. A sheep shear knife is normally fashioned from one blade of a pair of antique sheep shears, the like of which were used before powered clippers were invented or widely available.

The shear is then given a handle of some sort, usually wood but sometimes bone or another natural substance. In this country they were often made in the Southwest and throughout sheep ranching country.

These shears were made of good steels and when the spring which connected the two blades would break, the blades were often pressed into service as effective cutting tools.

These were always handmade, usually by people who needed to use whatever they had at hand to get the work done, and so would repurpose these tools into something else which could continue to do service around the ranch or farm.

Thanks for the lesson Andy. I always enjoy learning things like that.

After seeing those Barlows I decided to put the only one I have in my pocket today. I had gotten for free a while back. Main blade stamped Case XX over USA one side, other side stamped 31SAB. Long nail pull, silver bolsters, black(smooth bone or wood) handles. I'll try to post a photo of it tomorrow. Paul

The 31SAB, if I recall correctly, has composite handles and would be classified as a jack knife. I had one for a long time and I think it is a great knife. Half stops, feels extremely sturdy, just a great knife from Case all around. Its too bad it is no longer in production. I'd love a picture if and when you have time :D

I got this one in the mail yesterday. It's in my pocket today. Courtesy of Jason Baker's give away. It is one sweet little gem.

The more I see the blade on this knife the more I like it - Taking the clip to perfection.
