What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

clutch, That ebony whittler is such a great looking knife! The ebony version sure is tempting...

I have decided to make this Higonokami as my weekend knife!

That's a beauty! I'd love to know a little bit about this one.

My very first #15 of the current pair. I am unequivocally certain there will be more.

I also noticed an old silver dime in my coffee change this morning! My lucky day (it's worth over a buck!)

I don't know much more about it other than that it's called "higonokami tsuchime" and is made - as far as I know - by the same old guy who makes the original brass handled higos. I have to get my brother to translate that stamping.

Paul H - Very sorry for your troubles Paul, my thoughts are with you and Nanc, and her mom

Have a great trip, Jack. Looks like you'll be adequately outfitted for success.:thumbup:

Thanks GT, I'm not back home yet, but have had a good day :)

Maybe you'll recognize this spot Jack:) wandering the Pennine Way with my Lloyd trapper.

Lucky to have wifi...

I certainly do Jim, the highest pub in Britain! I haven't been there in ages, but was watching a programme (partly) about it on my IPad just a couple of days ago, and thinking I was due a return trip :) I hope you're having a great time my friend, and please keep us posted when you get a chance

Jack
That sounds like a wonderful day!!! May you be walkin on sunshine:D

Thanks Gev, two lovely knives

I agree with GT - ready for bear with that pair Jack.:)

LOL! Thanks, certainly ready for beer at least ;) :D

Jack - I loved seeing the Davison paired with the St. Pauli pocket slip, and the second photo of it outdoors was just lovely. A trip to Obadiah Barlow's old workshop and a visit with Stan Shaw sound like bucket list material. I hope you have a great day. :)

Many thanks Stephen, I'll hope to be able to post pics soon

Me too, interesting knife

Thank You, what really caught my eye is the substantial thumb tab. The hammered finish looks very nice as well. Cool knife

He said it was pretty hard to read, being sort of artistic, but he interpreted it says "one sword technique"..
So that helped a lot. :D

I know that the black higonokami has picture of samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo, famous one who developed the "two handed technique" so it would add up SOMEHOW... sheesh, I have no idea!

So don't quote me on that!
Anyway, it came with gorgeous box like this:

One of THE best made production knives around! astounding F&F on the one I have. Been thinking of getting the jigged bone replaced with micarta but I'm not sure if I want to trust anybody dismantling it, such is the quality of the workmanship.

Thanks, Will

Hmm, the jigged bone ones are getting harder to come by as well!

The one I posted is the largest of three simply called Moki Micarta (s, m, and l = small, medium and large). Great user knife:)

Sam

Interesting Sam. The jigged bone on mine is not very good actually, poor red colour and flaking, hence my desire to change it. But who...?

Thanks, Will

Beautiful knives fellas! I'm especially lovin' the cool Japanese knives today.

I've just got my plain ol' gardening knife on board today:

Whoa-- cool lizard!

My show of resistance towards the #38s is weakening.

~ P.

I don't want to twist your arm, but I do recommend it. Imagine a #57 Geppetto Whittler all grown up and elegant.

I prefer shorter blades, as on the #57 for better control when whittling, but for a daily use knife, I think this #38 will be perfect. It has the blade variety of a stockman, but in such an easy to carry, and elegant package.
