What do you think of this knife? I have been thinking about picking one up.

Those TC Barlows are pretty nice and a bit infectious. Hard to have just one.

This thread must be a record on BF. Working on 5 million hits.

It's a Buck 501 from their custom shop.

Thank you for posting that, I assumed it was a 503 or 505. I've been considering getting a 501 custom shop due to the option of having it in s30v but I never pulled the trigger because I thought it would be too big. The comparison picture is extremely helpful!

Jim, I like this Case Mako in Zytel. I'm a big fan of the original Mako, so I figured I'd like this one too.

It comes with a nylon pouch, but at only 2.5 oz. I very comfortably pocket carry. It's so lightweight, I end up forgetting it's even in my pocket sometimes.

I hate for a knife to get sideways in my pocket and that would be a deal breaker for this 4 1/4" (closed) knife if it went sideways easily or often but that isn't the "case". The broad butt end, in the bottom of my pocket stabilizes the carry. Tang end up with blade facing hip is the way to go and it stays right there all day.

In addition to being lightweight, the Zytel handle is about a third again wider than the original Mako. The Zytel handle provides a comfortable textured grip purchase that quite possibly may induce less hand fatigue during times of prolonged use than the narrower, heavier original.

On lock-up, there is very slight side to side blade play but not enough to be concerned about. Nor do I ever notice it, but felt I should mention it. The Zytel handle has no liners.

The original is still my favorite of the two, from an aesthetics point of view. The Zytel Mako isn't nearly as beautiful (or collectible) as the Brass and Staminawood original. That said, this lightweight Mako finds my pocket many fold more times than the original does.

If you're looking for a good robust lightweight clip point that doesn't mind working hard and you want to keep it in a two handed traditional pattern ... the Zytel Mako might be a great choice. If you like your EDC work/beater to have clips and flippers and stuff, but like the size of the Mako, maybe take a look at the aluminum handled drop-point Ken Onion Ripple. Same weight and just about the same price point as the Zytel Mako.

I wonder how the patina is going to show up on the ancients due to the scaling or if it might turn one matte gray instead of rainbows.

Thank you Jack. As figured, fishing after lunch in August just proved to be hot. ;):D

Wow, have there been a lot of great pics and knives this week!

I pretty much alternated between these two, paired with an alox Cadet all week. 73 has the pocket today.

EDit- Adding my carry today :)

Nice Charlow Jack ! ;):D:D

A shamefully overly polished Cattaraugus today. I wish someone hadn't stolen it's patina. I guess a few decades of use might bring it back.

Totin' the EC Simmons KK stockman this morning. I'd sure like to know how that chunk got taken out of the clip main!
