What do you mean by "lunchbox", Blues?

The knife was most likely built by a Case cutler who smuggled or appropriated the parts and assembled the knife at home or on his lunch hour.

Notice that there are shields on both the mark and pile sides of the knife...this is not a Case knife as sold to the public. Now it is possible that it was just rescaled that way but in the absence of any documentation we just err on the side of caution. The blades and parts all appear to be authentic "Tested" era material.

The bone was not perfectly fit to the bolsters (initially) but a visit to Dr. Halfrich took care of most of that and also resulted in supremely sharp blades. :D:thumbup:

Edited To Add:

We can make the assumption also because if some unscrupulous person had wanted to sell the knife as an authentic, original "Tested" Era knife for big money, he'd not have allowed it out to the public with the pile side scale as is. On the other hand, a Case employee who just wanted to have a nice knife for his pocket might not have had that concern and would have just grabbed what was available to him.

Change up today just now... OK, well actually more like around an hour ago.. Received this large-ish Case Stockman model #64047P, 4 inches closed, in the mail box as the result of a even-up swap trade with a fellow agreed upon last week.. Slid her gently into my right front watch pocket and then just used her to do a bit of carving(my name) on the end of my walking stick..

This one has 2 dots under the Case XX {over} U.S.A. tang stamp, denoting 1978 as the year of production. She is equipped with hi-carbon steel blades and nicely jigged brownish-red scales.. I am pretty dog-on certain she has never been used and definitely certain she has never been sharpened.. Just a few moisture spots is all. I am one happy camper and am preparing to break her in with a fine patina PDQ.. :D ..!

Best,
Anthony

Today I carried my two newest traditionals, both made by Case of course. A PW Harvest Orange Trapper, and my new favorite, a Peanut that I just received this afternoon.

These two :)
My first Queen, and that Barlow was a gift from my wife's parents. I LOVE Barlows, and this very knife is the reason why. There was always a display card with a few of these on the counter at the hardware store when I was a kid, and I always wanted one so badly. They looked like such big tough blades- just what an 8 year old boy needed to conquer the world. ;)
I got one about the time I turned 40 :)

today while at work i had my large black case sodbuster on my belt, and my black sodbuster jr. in my pocket, then when i got home from work i swtiched from the heavies to just a yellow delrin cv peanut in my watch pocket. i just love that little peanut. i think that my collection may grow by a few peanuts over the next month or so.

thanks
sam

1581zebra,

If that's an Imperial Barlow, I've got the same one. I picked it up at a swap meet a few weeks ago. It's a pretty neat little knife, though it's a little rough around the edges. Just because you made me think about it, I think I'm going to oil the joints and slip it into my cargo pocket.

Elliot, love this Cattle knife! Looks great!

I'm carrying this Keen Kutter "Balloon Jack"
Saber ground, it's a great "old" knife! Snap is
amazing on both blades, it has a great feel
to it!

Thanks, Jason. That's a nice old classic you're carrying today.

Yes it is J.D. I have been saying that if I walk into an old feed store and see one of those old cardboard displays, I'm just gonna buy the whole thing so I can remember trips to the store with my grandfather. :)
They're quite rough around the edges, but I love it just the same. :D

What a coincidence! I put a real nice edge on the main blade, but left the other one alone. Even after oiling both of them, the pen blade is too hard to open safely with a sharp edge. It's a cool knife none the less.
