I didn't even know they made any in giraffe bone. Now take that crazy filter off so we can see the knife in it's natural glory. ;)

This past week was this sweet old Colonial jack that a friend recently gave me. The weekend, and next week will be the Bradford/Case humpback half whittler.

Congratulations Mike

Thank you gentlemen - it felt warm in my pocket. The movie was set in the cold 1800's wilderness winter. A very nicely filmed movie on a wet rainy January day here. ;):)

Glad you enjoyed the film Primble, I'll remember to put some gloves in my pocket! :D

I received this yesterday, and am liking it very much, disappears in the pocket :) Have a great weekend everyone

thank you! I really like the jigging on that last one of yours.
...
Thanks, Jeff. :) I like RR's amber jigged bone, and really enjoy the way that shadow pattern has the jigging the entire length of the covers.

Wanna know why the old knives are better? At about a hundred years a piece this was doin' it old school and that's why after all that time these two are as good as the day they were new. So today I'm goin' old school and carryin' both. :)

Top left 1920s Graef & Schmidt Jack Knife in smooth bone covers, bottom right 1911-1913 Union Knifeworks NYC very rare as the company only existed for two years but in that two years they made a premium knife to rival the best out there.
...
I keep thinking of the amount of sweat and oil that went into that bone to give it such a rich and hard earned patina. :) Definitely two of my favorites and they get ou a lot but only do light cutting I keep something a little more modern for the normal daily chores.

Phenomenal pair of aged aristocrats, Ted.:eek::thumbup: Another hundred years and your 2015 Forum knife will be just as venerable! ;)

^^ Those two look great! I'm just imagining the stories they could tell after all that time.

Happy Friday everyone :triumphant:

That toasted Tuna looks delicious, Mike!:thumbup:

not as old:
Not as old, but that's a very distinguished-looking Boker, Rachel!:thumbup:

Im carrying this "beater" on this lazy rainy Friday.
dadqQ16.jpg

The only things on the agenda today are music, Bladeforums and some much needed rest and relaxation.
I couldn't ask for a better day.
Best beater on the block!:D Hope your day off was rejuvenating, SSS!

...
I don't have much (any?) experience with those Taylor-built Schrades but your opinion carries weight, and that four-blade configuration looks eminently useful. I may have to take a flier on one! Your wonderful Opi looks like it has stories to tell for days, too.
...
Today is a desk day for me, too, and an early one since I've gotta drive 3 counties for a doctor appointment in the afternoon. Dean's wonderful new Appaloosa Barlow inspired today's carry, skewed towards a more sedate environment (I even left the PM2 at home!). Excuse the washed-out colors, these last couple days the sun has simply refused to cooperate...
...

...
Thanks for the kind words, TB. :) Since I'm relatively new to knives, my opinion is pretty lightweight, but I'll let everyone know what I like anyway.
Top-drawer trio of Cases you have there.:cool: If I recall correctly, you've displayed several toothpicks lately; is that a favorite pattern of yours?

...
City Knife and beer scout today.

I always look forward to the Whetstone Daily Double, and you always come through, Tom!:thumbup: That Beer Scout is exceptional! I think you mentioned once that you'd like a leather lanyard for it; what sort of "leash" do you have in mind?

...
Same sort of theme as the past couple of days. Last years forum knife and a Vic Pioneer.

Ken K.
Ken, I've been drooling over your Eric's Jacks the past couple of days, but IMHO they suddenly pale in comparison to that immaculate red old cross Pioneer!!:eek::thumbup::thumbup:

As a celebration of the end of the very successful 2015 forum knife project, I've got one in my pocket today.

Your Forum knife is a standout, Gary!:cool:

Thank you GT. Very nice Old Timer !:)

Thanks, Primble; it's not a "real" Old Timer, but I still like it. :) That Barlow is achingly, yearnfully sublime!:eek::thumbup: That it was born 12 years before my grandpa is incredible.

Had to change things up this afternoon after hitting the mailbox. I had posted a 'looking for' in my signature line for one of my personal traditional grails. Over the holidays, I received two PM's from Jake (Jsega51) and Rick (Railsplitter) letting me know one was on the exchange - Thanks for email notifications :)

Thanks to their sharp eyes, and quick messages, I was able to get it, and it arrived today! It's just what I was hoping for, and it's now in the pocket for a bit! Thanks again Jake and Rick.

Congrats, Mike; that is a highly desirable, amazingly appealing knife!!:thumbup::cool: Kudos to Jake and Rick for looking out for a "knife brother"; "it takes a village". :D

Gary - Yes, this is a #47 Hayn' Helper. This is a 2012 model with O1 blade steel. It is a terrific EDC knife, being light and very versatile. In reference to the highlighted statement, take a gander at the production schedule on the web site from this knifes manufacturer.:D...
Thanks for the reference, Ron. :) So the 2-bladed version is also on the schedule; that's a knife that makes me break more than one of the 10 Commandments, I fear! ;)

I didn't even know they made any in giraffe bone. Now take that crazy filter off so we can see the knife in it's natural glory. ;)
:D:D +5K!

Fine WLST, Jack; those stamped blades are classy IMHO.:cool:

I worked out a new weekly carry rotation for the new year, and it just so happened that my representative in the "knife with bail" category is the same Sanremu that I carried last week:

I'm also carrying my "constant companions" that I carry EVERY week:

Good call on the gloves Jack .............. or you could just sleep inside a horse carcass (like in the movie) to stay warm.:D:D:D The film work is fantastic, although the flow of the movie is a little strange, IMO - still very much worth seeing. ;):)

Back to knives - I really like the blade stamping on the little 25 Barlow and am warming up to it with this last run. Let us know how you like it after you have some time to carry it.

Inspired by Jack to carry my little Barlow today:

Thanks guys, I really like the blade stamping :) Beautiful Barlow Primble  I think I might give the horse carcass a miss and just put on an extra sweater! :D

A brand new northwoods double blade Barlow. One side has a nice little knot that gives perfect character. My first 1095. Thing carries much smaller than its size would have you think. I think it'll be a good companion for this turnaround.

So many knives to add to the list.

Great Beer Scout Tom and great 25 Jack!!

Thanks for the comment on the Pioneer 5K Qs. Thanks for the comments on my 14 Forum knife and the Erick's Jack SSS and Jamie. Here's a pic of the pile sides.

One last day for the same theme. Different 14 Forum knife an 86 Vic Soldier.

Living at Bible college, my blood is now more coffee than hemoglobin. Also, a little knife like this Old Timer stockman is all I need to carry. Living in an urban environment, even my big old Opinel no. 7 is overkill most days.

Nice score there, Mike! Glad you were able to snag it. Looks like a fine knife.

On a different note, how do you like your Tuna Valley Railsplitter? I don't have one of those yet and I've been thinking about maybe trying to locate a Buffalo Horn version.

My son in law gifted me this S&M Winterbottom Barlow in 1095 steel. I'm actually very pleased with the quality on this one. I was skeptical when it arrived based on some past experiences with Queen and S&M, but this is a good one. Not perfect, but the little things I found are insignificant.

Thanks Jack & GT :)

I don't think you'll be disappointed! I really like mine. The buffalo horn would probably be much 'slimmer' than my chunky stag. Pull on the main blade is around a 4, and the secondaries are around 6ish. Relatively light pulls all around. F&F is pretty good, but man do I love the covers on mine! It is constantly getting played with if I'm carrying it - awesome worry-stone :)

Love the bone on that Humpback Whittler! It matches my Sowbelly I'm carrying today :)

Still rockin' the Graef & Schmidt Barehead Jack, I just love everything about this, the color, the feel, even the blades are sharp and holds a great edge like the old german steel did.
