Thank you gentlemen - it felt warm in my pocket. The movie was set in the cold 1800's wilderness winter. A very nicely filmed movie on a wet rainy January day here.

Thanks, Jeff.thank you! I really like the jigging on that last one of yours.

Wanna know why the old knives are better? At about a hundred years a piece this was doin' it old school and that's why after all that time these two are as good as the day they were new. So today I'm goin' old school and carryin' both.
Top left 1920s Graef & Schmidt Jack Knife in smooth bone covers, bottom right 1911-1913 Union Knifeworks NYC very rare as the company only existed for two years but in that two years they made a premium knife to rival the best out there.
...
Phenomenal pair of aged aristocrats, Ted. :thumbup:I keep thinking of the amount of sweat and oil that went into that bone to give it such a rich and hard earned patina.Definitely two of my favorites and they get ou a lot but only do light cutting I keep something a little more modern for the normal daily chores.

That toasted Tuna looks delicious, Mike!^^ Those two look great! I'm just imagining the stories they could tell after all that time.
Happy Friday everyone :triumphant:

Tuna Valley Railsplitter
Not as old, but that's a very distinguished-looking Boker, Rachel!:thumbup:
Best beater on the block! :thumbup:Im carrying this "beater" on this lazy rainy Friday.

The only things on the agenda today are music, Bladeforums and some much needed rest and relaxation.
I couldn't ask for a better day.
Thanks for the kind words, TB....
I don't have much (any?) experience with those Taylor-built Schrades but your opinion carries weight, and that four-blade configuration looks eminently useful. I may have to take a flier on one! Your wonderful Opi looks like it has stories to tell for days, too.
...
Today is a desk day for me, too, and an early one since I've gotta drive 3 counties for a doctor appointment in the afternoon. Dean's wonderful new Appaloosa Barlow inspired today's carry, skewed towards a more sedate environment (I even left the PM2 at home!). Excuse the washed-out colors, these last couple days the sun has simply refused to cooperate...

I always look forward to the Whetstone Daily Double, and you always come through, Tom!:thumbup: That Beer Scout is exceptional! I think you mentioned once that you'd like a leather lanyard for it; what sort of "leash" do you have in mind?
Ken, I've been drooling over your Eric's Jacks the past couple of days, but IMHO they suddenly pale in comparison to that immaculate red old cross Pioneer!!...
Same sort of theme as the past couple of days. Last years forum knife and a Vic Pioneer.

Your Forum knife is a standout, Gary!As a celebration of the end of the very successful 2015 forum knife project, I've got one in my pocket today.

Thanks, Primble; it's not a "real" Old Timer, but I still like it....
Thank you GT. Very nice Old Timer !

Congrats, Mike; that is a highly desirable, amazingly appealing knife!!:thumbup:Had to change things up this afternoon after hitting the mailbox. I had posted a 'looking for' in my signature line for one of my personal traditional grails. Over the holidays, I received two PM's from Jake (Jsega51) and Rick (Railsplitter) letting me know one was on the exchange - Thanks for email notifications
Thanks to their sharp eyes, and quick messages, I was able to get it, and it arrived today! It's just what I was hoping for, and it's now in the pocket for a bit! Thanks again Jake and Rick.

Thanks for the reference, Ron.Gary - Yes, this is a #47 Hayn' Helper. This is a 2012 model with O1 blade steel. It is a terrific EDC knife, being light and very versatile. In reference to the highlighted statement, take a gander at the production schedule on the web site from this knifes manufacturer....
I didn't even know they made any in giraffe bone. Now take that crazy filter off so we can see the knife in it's natural glory.![]()
Fine WLST, Jack; those stamped blades are classy IMHO.
Thanks, Primble; it's not a "real" Old Timer, but I still like it.That Barlow is achingly, yearnfully sublime!
 That it was born 12 years before my grandpa is incredible.
I'm also carrying my "constant companions" that I carry EVERY week:

Good call on the gloves Jack .............. or you could just sleep inside a horse carcass (like in the movie) to stay warm. The film work is fantastic, although the flow of the movie is a little strange, IMO - still very much worth seeing.
Back to knives - I really like the blade stamping on the little 25 Barlow and am warming up to it with this last run. Let us know how you like it after you have some time to carry it.
Inspired by Jack to carry my little Barlow today:

Nice score there, Mike! Glad you were able to snag it. Looks like a fine knife.
On a different note, how do you like your Tuna Valley Railsplitter? I don't have one of those yet and I've been thinking about maybe trying to locate a Buffalo Horn version.
This past week was this sweet old Colonial jack that a friend recently gave me. The weekend, and next week will be the Bradford/Case humpback half whittler.
