What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My son in law gifted me this S&M Winterbottom Barlow in 1095 steel. I'm actually very pleased with the quality on this one. I was skeptical when it arrived based on some past experiences with Queen and S&M, but this is a good one. Not perfect, but the little things I found are insignificant.

Bob - A beautiful Barlow  Glad you got a good one

Thank you... Here is a natural shot or two.

Todd - Congratulations sir! That is a stunning knife!

This gift from Duncan, a GEC #16 "Little Indian Girl" Canoe Pattern. I have a couple of vintage 1970 red bone CASE Canoe's which I like but this carries much nicer to me:cool:

Thank you Duncan, I love this knife. Duncan's generosity extends beyond this even as I was notified by a GEC dealer that I had credit waiting for me towards another knife purchase:o Duncan's generosity is LEGENDARY:thumbup:

Paul - That is a beautiful knife! Duncan is without question a generous and wonderful friend to us all here on the porch! :D

This Case Sowbelly in CV and Chestnut Bone.

Frank - One of Cases best offerings, IMO!

Totin the 15 today

P&G - Your Huckleberry is simple but a classic! Long pull spear, beautiful bone just one of their best!

I had to spend most of the day in somewhat dressier attire that normal. This seemed very appropriate! ;):D

Ron and Bob, Thank you both:thumbup: I agree with Bob Ron...one of my favorite of all the TC's;)

And Bob, first and foremost its great to see you back my friend...I hope you are feeling better. Also your S&M Barlow is a beauty and thoughtfully chosen:cool::thumbup: and that Duncan fella, yep, he's a goodin;):D

Soooooo excited about this one!

Trying something new with the picture link. Let me know if it doesn't show.

This past week was this sweet old Colonial jack that a friend recently gave me. The weekend, and next week will be the Bradford/Case humpback half whittler.

That humpback is choice. Looks like a perfect candidate to ride in a watch pocket, too.

I received this yesterday, and am liking it very much, disappears in the pocket :) Have a great weekend everyone

A thing of beauty, the sawcut on that luscious bone lends this 3D effect and helps the pins just pop. Green with envy over here. :p

Thanks for the kind words, TB. Since I'm relatively new to knives, my opinion is pretty lightweight, but I'll let everyone know what I like anyway.
Top-drawer trio of Cases you have there. If I recall correctly, you've displayed several toothpicks lately; is that a favorite pattern of yours?

Well, GT, if I had to judge by how many I've acquired since starting to collect, I would have to say that it is among my favorites. The photo (inadvertantly) shows the three patterns I collect and enjoy most, as a matter of fact: Barlows, trappers and toothpicks. Since I first came across the breadth and variations to the toothpick world I think I've really enjoyed collecting them up to and including the old fishermen knives that companies like Imperial and Ka-bar seemed lousy with every year. :D

That Sanremu has such a Spartan appeal to it, I really like the aesthetic especially coupled with the alox SAK.

Which model SAK is the one with the clip and paracord, out of curiosity? I think it's carrying a tool I've wanted on an SAK, and honestly the Cybertool Lite isn't so "lite" in sheath or pocket, which is why it didn't ride with me today (or most weekend days).

Inspired by Jack to carry my little Barlow today:

Fantastic Barlow, such rich wood and a nice long spearpoint to boot! Love to hear the story behind it.

A brand new northwoods double blade Barlow. One side has a nice little knot that gives perfect character. My first 1095. Thing carries much smaller than its size would have you think. I think it'll be a good companion for this turnaround.

 A spear Barlow with a secondary standard single-edge, and it works so nicely together. Impressive one, SVTFreak! :D

One last day for the same theme. Different 14 Forum knife an 86 Vic Soldier.

You sure did get "pick of the stag" on those forum knives, Ken.

Snowed in today, carrying my old Robeson butter & molasses equal end jack.

From a certain angle it almost seems like that could pass for bone with a funky jigging. :p

Living at Bible college, my blood is now more coffee than hemoglobin. Also, a little knife like this Old Timer stockman is all I need to carry. Living in an urban environment, even my big old Opinel no. 7 is overkill most days.

Living and working in an urban environment, my Opis see their share of the pocket. That Old Timer is a worthy substitute, however!

I was skeptical when it arrived based on some past experiences with Queen and S&M, but this is a good one. Not perfect, but the little things I found are insignificant.

The Winterbottom bone on that gorgeous Barlow looks similar to a Queen trapper I have coming (eventually... :grumpy:), if it's as nice as it looks in pictures I'm sure I'll post it in the new additions thread. I'm glad you got one of the "good Queens"!

Just for a change.

That might be a welcome addition to the Texas jack thread, it's a stunner!

Still rockin' the Graef & Schmidt Barehead Jack, I just love everything about this, the color, the feel, even the blades are sharp and holds a great edge like the old german steel did.

That knife has style and character. Always a good combination. Do you know much about G&S?

Real nice old jigged amber bone on this one........Venture by HM Slater

The jigging is first-rate for sure... but WOW, look at those bolsters! A beautiful knife, Chui!

Again today, a bright spot literal and figurative on a gloomy, damp day:

#77 Yankee Jack in Sunbrite

Those scales sure do shine like the sun, alright!

Thank you... Here is a natural shot or two.

Incredible giraffe bone handles and a marvelous patina, what a great Northwoods. :)

Got this in the mail recently and decided to give it a try in the pocket for the first time.

Incredible Barlow. I don't know if I'd have the stomach to pocket a serialized beauty like that, though. Maybe some day... :p

Today was the worst possible day to go hiking. The weather channel said rain would stop around twelve, and this was my only chance for a while, so I risked it and hiked 6 miles in what ended up being cold nonstop rain. But hey, I had to give my first ever Mora a memorable virgin hike:)

Love a Morakniv, and I dig the etching on the soddie. :D

This Case Sowbelly in CV and Chestnut Bone.

That Case chestnut really pops in the sun, I've learned.

I had to spend most of the day in somewhat dressier attire that normal. This seemed very appropriate! ;):D

And to think the Barlow was considered a working class knife... Very classy TC there, Ron! :D

This li'l feller riding shotgun today...

Case Small Texas Toothpick SS in 'Peace & Harmony' jigged bone[/QUOTE]

That is one of the cooler designs I've seen on a Case toothpick, Brett. Very cool!

Today's loadout had to be light in the pocket, able to deal with knocking against other objects, and also compensate for the missing SAK -- not the easiest of tasks. Ultimately I settled on a pair of Opinels in the pockets and a TL-29 in the pouch, which was juuust utilitarian enough to make up for the absentee portable toolbox that is my Vic.

Previous link didn't seem to work... Let's try again. Beyond stoked for this one!

I always look forward to the Whetstone Daily Double, and you always come through, Tom!:thumbup: That Beer Scout is exceptional! I think you mentioned once that you'd like a leather lanyard for it; what sort of "leash" do you have in mind?

MRhySLHl.jpg

Thanks GT! To me the Beer Scout is a very classy, yet extremely capable daily companion, so I think it deserves better than paracord. I am thinking maybe a simple, thin leather leash with a couple of knots?

Great shot of the ALOX, fantastic pic

In anticipation of things to come ;) this is in the pocket today :D

Excitement as well here too Ron! What covers are you looking at getting ?

Shoddy desk shot.

GEC Bullnose in green canvas with my mini hatchet.

Serious splitting power there... I like it!

Careful. That Mora classic just might become your favourite hiking blade. I know mine is. :D
