Wanna know why the old knives are better? At about a hundred years a piece this was doin' it old school and that's why after all that time these two are as good as the day they were new. So today I'm goin' old school and carryin' both. :)

Top left 1920s Graef & Schmidt Jack Knife in smooth bone covers, bottom right 1911-1913 Union Knifeworks NYC very rare as the company only existed for two years but in that two years they made a premium knife to rival the best out there.

^^ Those two look great! I'm just imagining the stories they could tell after all that time.

Happy Friday everyone :triumphant:

Both of those knives are beautiful, but man, that Graef and Schmidt is drop dead gorgeous! I'm a sucker for a nicely aged smooth bone.

I keep thinking of the amount of sweat and oil that went into that bone to give it such a rich and hard earned patina. :) Definitely two of my favorites and they get ou a lot but only do light cutting I keep something a little more modern for the normal daily chores.

Thanks! Northwoods calls it a fruit knife. Either way it's an oddball, but it works well for me in so many ways! Easy to carry but enough edge to cut a sandwich in half!

Im carrying this "beater" on this lazy rainy Friday.

The only things on the agenda today are music, Bladeforums and some much needed rest and relaxation.
I couldn't ask for a better day.

Carrying my new-to-me Boker Trapper again today :) Have a great Friday everyone, and an even better weekend

Nothing like getting spoiled on a new knife right off the bat. :p That Buck USA signature jack is a pleaser, too, and those wood scales look way more elegant than the list price would imply. I carried a signature 303 earlier this week, and for the size it packs a lot of utility. Plus I love the rounded, protruding pins on the scales. This is no demure knife, it's an American workhorse.

I've got a Taylor-Schrade 44OT Workmate in my watch pocket this week; 4 different blade shapes (Wharncliffe on the bottom in the pic) in a single package!

I don't have much (any?) experience with those Taylor-built Schrades but your opinion carries weight, and that four-blade configuration looks eminently useful. I may have to take a flier on one! Your wonderful Opi looks like it has stories to tell for days, too.

In the office again today but at least I have my trusty beer scout

Office priorities 101. You are doing it right. :D

Today, something new (to me). Casual Friday![/IMG]

Did you and rishma call each other before logging onto BF this morning? ;)

Shoddy desk shot.
GEC Bullnose in green canvas with my mini hatchet.

Fantastic GEC, and that little hatchet is a conversation-starter, I'll bet.

Is everybody stuck inside today? :(

Fantastic and lovely old knives, regular pieces of history. That Union in particular is breathtaking, those scales are anything but ordinary!

Happy Friday everyone :triumphant:
Tuna Valley Railsplitter

The F&F on that Tuna Valley is amazing! I would be proud to carry it anywhere.

not as old:

Another beautiful Boker! Glad to see they're being represented proudly in this thread. :)

Today is a desk day for me, too, and an early one since I've gotta drive 3 counties for a doctor appointment in the afternoon. Dean's wonderful new Appaloosa Barlow inspired today's carry, skewed towards a more sedate environment (I even left the PM2 at home!). Excuse the washed-out colors, these last couple days the sun has simply refused to cooperate...

Smooth bone mini-trapper, Appaloosa Barlow, Appaloosa medium toothpick

The mini trapper isn't Appa, but it fits the smooth bone motif and these darker patches at the very edges of the bone on both scales almost give a hint of reverse-Appaloosa patterning. I think it just works. :D

As always great knives everyone.

Thanks again for your comment 5K Qs, I might have to do so.

Eric, that Northwoods Burnside in smooth amber bone...just wow!!

SSS, great knife and Dylan cover. You motivated me to dig out my copy. The only difference is that mine is on vinyl.

Same sort of theme as the past couple of days. Last years forum knife and a Vic Pioneer.

As a celebration of the end of the very successful 2015 forum knife project, I've got one in my pocket today.

I can't tell if its just the excellent photos, or if ebony wood really looks that classy in person. Love it!

:thumbup::)

Another stunner, Primble!

I finally had my first off day in about two weeks. These two accompanied me on a work errand:grumpy: and a very successful record store trip.

Thank you - fine patina on that pair of yours ! :)

Thanks Primble. The Lightfoot is a pretty rugged knife. I like to have it along with me in the woods.

You know I love that Humphrey!

Thank you Gary. :)

Compelling cocobolo Catt, Primble!

Thank you GT. Very nice Old Timer !:)

Beautiful Catt Mr P (and that Humphrey is certainly none too shabby!) :thumb:

Thank you Mr. Jack. Many of the Primble Belknap Hardware knives that I have were made by Boker and are high quality, IMO. :)

Can't argue with what you said - fine pair sir !:thumbup::)

It is raining again and I am going to Lexington to see "The Revenant" this afternoon. Thought I would pick something to carry that is appropriate for the time period:
