What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Nothing wrong with an Imperial Barlow. My grandfather carried many of them as they were good little knives at an affordable price. They were meant to be used. Some people may not be that wild about them because of "cheap" materials and clamshell design, but those carbon blades can get scary sharp. Old Imperial Barlows always make me think of Grandad, and that always brings a smile.

I'm glad to have made someone smile today. :-)
Any idea on when this style was made? Any way to date them?

I've been carrying this single clip #15 this past week. I was recently gifted (so to speak) the opportunity to buy this from a generous member who beat me to it and another (sold as a pair) on the exchange. I'd been looking for one of these for a while, so I'm very happy to have this one.

What I didn't realize until I was looking around on GEC's site a couple days ago was that there have been (at least) two runs of these single clip #15s - these from 2014 with the nail nick, and a run from 2013 with a long pull. I love a long pull on a clip point, so now I'm one the hunt for one of those, too. :D

Great pic of a great knife. I gifted one of these to my buddy for his birthday. Just fantastic all around!

I know these imperials are not that special, but I got 2 of 'em from an auction site and put a razor edge on them and removed some rust inside. I like this one with the drop blade, the other is a clip. Good snap and a good user.

Welcome to the porch! There is absolutely nothing wrong with your Imperial Barlow. It has been my experience that they have some great carbon and do take and hold a great edge. Your picture is also great. You will find a warm welcome here, never be afraid to show a traditional knife of any variety! :D

Thanks! This place is dangerous to a person's wallet, but I can't stay away.

Just do a google search for "Imperial Tang Stamps" and you'll get flooded with results. Tang stamp charts are very helpful, but occasionally you'll run across some folks here who are even better at filling in gaps of information.

I didn't realize that was a slipjoint at first. I thought it was a little fixed blade. I really like it!! You'd think the file work would be towards the front as sort of thumb jimping but it looks good as an accent at the back of the knife as well. It's nice to see something different!

Cheers Jake. I think the filework is Laurent's more modern take. It's quite a large slipjoint with a 3.5" blade but still a versatile knife with a stiff enough spring to inspire confidence:)

Very nice Sam. Really like the detail work on the rear part of the tang.
Curious as to what kind of stabilized wood that is ?

Sun is just creeping out today…

Thanks Dan. That's a great pic of a super knife:)

Sorry Dan, it's stabilized Violet wood (was juggling replying on an iphone with putting my son to bed!).

Dead Skunk White Owl for me today

Beautiful scales on that TC!

William Rodgers and Todd Davison today :)

Sheffield's cup doth overfloweth with cutlery. :o

Been a few days since I have been able to post. Wonderful carries everyone! This one has managed to stay for several days in a row. Love to CF the rivers in the soup : )

Some of the nicest texture on soupbone I've ever seen, gorgeous!

Slim 61OT along with Western Lockback.

Loving all the Schrades popping up lately. How big is that Western, by the way? It's a beauty, even the etch.

It always feels good to put this first run TC back in my pocket.

The field of Barlows returns! :p What kind of handles on that Case behind your TC? And what kind of master blade does that Boker in the background have?

I really dig the style of these handles.

Brought out my Primble today.

I take it you like the scout pattern. :D

Thank you, the coin is a South Korean 100 won from 1974. I lived there for several years in the 70s where I met my wife and our son was born. :)
Today's carry: An Orchard Gem which is my favorite CF knife; and my long term EDC (sharing time with its ebony brother) a Burgundy Presidential.

Great pic! How does your son feel about being born on foreign soil? :D

Böker 85

Great one-armed jack, johnnyfive! I wonder why your mailing boxes are of a newer vintage than mine, though. :o

I have a Providence Cut Co. Barlow that is a dead ringer for yours. Those old carbon blades have a lot going for them and yours have tons of life left. I have no qualms about including my functioning Imperials among my collection of Barlows -- they're the reason I need a bigger box or roll. :p

As per the tang stamp, it's in the range 1956-1988 (check the BF thread here for more information). Judging by the wear of the scales and overall condition of the knife -- minds-eyeballing if you will :D -- it seems to be kin to my spearpoint Imperial which I believe is 1970s or early 1980s. Imperial produced a lot of Barlows so I don't know how closely this can be pinpointed without straying into the realm of speculation.

Today's carry includes a new Japanese friend along with Mac and my EDC challenge knife:

In honor of Pertinux's birthday, I slipped this TC in my pocket, first thing this morning. It reminds me of her, possibly because she used to show her Antique Amber TC frequently and gave me the wants. I finally found one, however, her particular one is the prettiest. I nick named mine a PPP antique amber - Pertinux's Potassium Permanganate. Her pictures of her Antique Amber TC inspired.

She is the gem of the porch, IMO ! Happy birthday Sarah and I hope your day is a fine one all day ! :)

I thought this picture described mine best today, since it is cold and the snow is flying again!

Aw-- I'm honored!

Truth be known, I grabbed mine again today as well, as it remains my "coming home" knife. I don't have a "of the day" picture so didn't post it, but here it is again:

Well I've let 40 pages go by since the last time I viewed this thread!

I've carried just about everything I own since then, but this 77 has seen the majority of pocket time.

Lots of pages of great knives today!

Thanks for the comments on my 25 Jack, Pertinux and Tim.

Tsar I like that Sabre Barlow! That TC soup bone is very nice Drew! Travman, that dyed camel bone 25 has once again inspired me to carry one today.

Lots of snow removal today. First pic is of the back deck which luckily the wind cleared much of. Todays a GEC 25 in snakewood and a Vic Soldier.
