What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thank you Mr P, I have to travel early tomorrow, so if my luck remains true to form, the weather will change its mind again  That's a white sourdough loaf from Leeds Bread Co-operative :) I thought it looked too nice to just eat! :D

In view of my early start tomorrow, I've packed my bag and pockets for a quick exit in the morning. I'll be carrying Charlie's Rope Knife again, and this old Sheffield (Albert Oates) :)

Snow and cold here Mr. Jack - have a fine day and the Oates is a fine one !:thumbup::)

Oh my. You have too many 92s that make my heart almost stop, Rob. Thank you for sharing this one!

In addition to my ebony Presidential, I carried this ebony Ancient TC Barlow.

Thank you Dean ! The Ancient ebony is a great knife !:)

I had my Ebony TC with me again today. :D

Fine choice Mr. Halfstop !:D

It is not a rehandle as far as I know, a friend of my father gave it to me a while ago. The knife has no markings and we think it's from solingen because he lived very near that town for some years.
Keep in mind that the big stockman is not for carrying, she keeps it with the rest of the tools, and as you already know it's very comfortable in hand with the sheepsfoot open

That's a pretty unique-looking knife, I can't say I've ever seen anything in the ballpark. It must be pretty cool living near these world centers of cutlery, the secondhand shops and bazaars must be lousy with quality knives. :)

That #75 pattern never really lets you forget you're carrying it. It works so well in my meathooks, though, that it's worth the little extra pocket-tug. :D

And while I'm wishing, I wish Case would bring these back. It's one I wouldn't mind buying a spare of.

I still need to find an everyday user SBJ. I hope it ends up being half as nice and full of character as yours.

/809fb03a1319823152792eabec3058c9.jpg

An outstanding example of the venerable copperlock pattern. Which blade steel does it use?

But, single-springs always delight me so I went for this. Very nice in the hand, great snap and it's not so bad looking either...;)

Before we had an inkling of hope for a '16 forum knife I was dreading the prospect of scouring the exchange for the legendary Final Ever BF Knife down the road and eventually laying out some nauseating multiple of the original retail. Frankly, yours might be worth doing so -- I think you won the sweepstakes with that mark side scale, that is one beautiful piece of cutlery.

Mine keeps improving with pocket time:)

It's interesting how all the best pieces do, Sam. Yours already hearkens back to those fantastic old bone Barlows of yore, GEC did themselves (and you) proud. That's one fine TC.

Back to the whittler after the weekend carry, both helped to finish the little pirate but what really sped things up was the spare time and relaxed state of mind.

You do some great work with that whittler and its supporting cast, Mateo. What did you carve the little fellas out of?

All wood today:

Your house must be like a museum.

Thank you my friend, that Sabre Barlow sure is a big boy
...
The best weather we've had in months, and, typically, I've had to work today :grumpy: I did get out for a trip to the post office to post off a couple of surprises ;) I've been carrying these two today

It makes that big #75 stockman look shrimpy, doesn't it? You should see the big fella that arrived today. Just as tall and twice as beefy. ;) :p

I vacillated between the photos of the rope knife vs. the '14 for quite some time trying to figure out which scales I liked more and I just couldn't make a decision. Plus they sure do look good together. Good call on the carry today and tomorrow. :)

All wooden today for me, too, since it's... ya know...

I am consistently impressed by the fixed blades you carry, puukko or not.

These 2 today : Ox Horn and Rams Horn

Another impossible handle choice. These two make a notable pair, though, you can't separate 'em! :p

Case slim trapper with EO notch in SS.

First I've seen of that variation, good find! That Winterbottom jigging looks really nice.

Just got this orange #99

Another notable pair, this one for the 'modern and traditional pairs' thread. :D

In the spirit of wooden Wednesday I'm carrying these two. A TC Barlow and a Vic EvoWood10.

Best-looking Vic I think I've seen, wood or not, Ken. Thanks for sharing!

What's the model of the one with pliers? It looks pretty sweet!
Mail call for me today:

I didn't see Jeff respond in a later post, but we had a similar conversation in the RR thread and this post was his answer to the same question posed by yours truly. :D

That was one great delivery, I see. :o

One for tomorrow, one just for today

Love 'em 2 times, indeed!

I had my Ebony TC with me again today. :D

Charlows everywhere. I'm saving up for a '16 knife, fellas. Help a fella out. :grumpy: ;) :D

24581572619_7f21f08caf_h.jpg

Please tell me more about that sweet Hammer?

gVlxNya.jpg

I think that might be one of the more useful blade configurations on a Congress, at least short of the one or two I've seen with punches. It's a serious looker, too! How's the F&F up close? It seems like RR's QC is worth risking because occasionally you get a well above average knife for a rock bottom price with them. I'm hoping I have that luck with me when I finally find a dogbone jack in stock (and hopefully acorn shield) for under $15. :o

Today was WW so I hastily snatched a Case on my way out the door because I'd already pocketed Mac and my EDC challenge knife, the pearl Keen Kutter. Mac's taking a day or two off from posing for ego control. :p :D

Hi Primble, this is stunning. I think your photography skills play a huge part too!
What model is this? The lines and curves are alluring.
And is that cocobolo or rosewood? I love the grain and shade.

Thank you and please forgive my ignorance!

Primble does indeed take some amazing shots.

It's Che Chen Rosewood in the GEC 92 talon pattern.

Back to the whittler after the weekend carry, both helped to finish the little pirate but what really sped things up was the spare time and relaxed state of mind.
...
Tim that spear is awesome

Mateo

I agree Mateo, I'm very partial to the zulu spear.
That's some amazing and intricate carving skills you've done. Very nice Case as well; I find myself in the same state often. Things can't be done diligently until the mind is focussed.

Tim - happy to hear of your acquisition. ;):)

All wood today:

Thank you, I'm excited. That 92 is a beauty. Is there a 'reasoning' behind which knives get a matte treatment and which don't? Just wondering.
Below was my wood carry as well..before any modification.

I had my Ebony TC with me again today. :D

It was an Ebony day for me as well Ron, nice spear~

Tsar Much appreciate your words on my Forum Knife. I'm really delighted with it and the pile side is no horror either...Fingerprint grain

Thanks, Will

Looking forward to getting it, GT. I expect to be toting it on an upcoming Wooden Wednesday, maybe next week's.

Is that 379 a full flat grind? I think both grinds have their merits on blades the size of the usual Buck folder, but I'm really starting to like the saber grind on my newer "signature" 303. I have a 310 coming in the mail which I believe is a little older and IIRC it has a FFG, so I may be able to do some direct head-to-head comparison.

I like that 72OT, too. Later this week I may take my own Taylor-Schrade anniversary whittler out for a tote. And you have a heck of a collection of Vics as always.
...
Thanks, TB. :) As I mentioned, I gave away the Buck 379, so I can't check its grind directly, but my recollection (supported by a couple of photos I have) is that the Solo was a saber grind too. (I'm not real adept at identifying blade grinds in real life though; I've seen the standard internet diagrams of the various blade grinds, but I can't really tell you, for example, what grinds my Opinels or Rough Riders have.)

Thanks, GT. Nice photo of your SAK. Have you ever used the saw on your Camper?
Thanks, Dean. :) I've used the SAK saw a few times, and was impressed with how well it works. A couple of uses I recall involved carving a little car out of a 6" chunk of 2x4. The windshield required removal of a long slanted chunk of wood from roof to hood, and I used the saw to "rough that out". I also ran into a huge knot sticking up like a saddle horn in the middle of the hood that was taking me forever to whittle out of my way, so I ended up just sawing it off.

Gary - Thank you my friend. Yes it is Schrade Walden. My grandfather passed in 1968 at which time I was given this 8OT. So based on the match strike pull and the location of the swedge in relationship to the match strike I would guess that it was made in the 1963 to 1965 range. I also remember aggravating him when we visited wanting to see his knife. I guess this is what started it all for me!:D
Thanks for the interesting background info, Ron. :) Having an heirloom like that must be very satisfying!

I've been very impressed with Buck's import line, and the bone covered ones are especially nice. I recently picked up one of the larger 371 stockman, but haven't carried it yet. I wish they'd do the little 375 "Deuce" in bone, too.

And while I'm wishing, I wish Case would bring these back. It's one I wouldn't mind buying a spare of.

I bought that Buck Trio and Solo on sale at Mr. Sam's store in Feb. 2014. They were the first pocket knives I ever purchased, and quite pleasing. Nice SBJ, and the chain links "on the vine" are cool!

...
I agree with everything you said Rob, Sarah is a gem on Bladeforums. I can honestly said Sarah's TC gave methe wantstoo...but those wants will soon be satisfied by USPS ;) I cannot wait. It needs some TLC but I hope to get it "Primble-lised"
...Today's carry and walk with him.

...
Congrats on getting an antique amber sawcut TC, Tim!:eek::thumbup: Is it a single clip like Sarah's and Primble's, or did you find a clip/pen? (The clip/pen antique amber sawcut is probably the only Charlow I'd be motivated to own.) Astounding Erickson!

GT Thanks for petting my White Owl, it's back on its perch now.

But, single-springs always delight me so I went for this. Very nice in the hand, great snap and it's not so bad looking either...;)

My goodness, I'd forgotten about the grain of your Forum knife, Will! Voluptuous vortex!!

Thank you,
A 34 OT, a very nice size, love it.
Thanks for the info; that IS a nice size stockman. :)

Mine keeps improving with pocket time:)

Sam
Hard to believe that could improve much more, Sam!

Back to the whittler after the weekend carry, both helped to finish the little pirate but what really sped things up was the spare time and relaxed state of mind.

Mateo, that pegleg pirate is practically perfect!:thumbup: Do you "paint" the eyes, or is the dark spot just a hole you drill?

Premium pen knife, Primble! Will you please share some identifying info?

Thanks GT, nice Peanut :)

Thanks, Jack. :) Good to hear you've gotten a break in the weather, and could post your parcels while pocketing that preeminent pair!

...
I am tethered to an all day suit-and-tie work thing today, which for me means only enough pocket real estate for a small-ish folder.

As incongruous as this might sound, that's a very distinguished Beer Scout, Tom! I haven't noticed that fine sheath before.

These 2 today : Ox Horn and Rams Horn

...
Harry
Memorable beauties, Harry! If I recall correctly, those are the first two knives I ever saw you post.

Holy sunburst! Congrats, Sean, on that astounding folder!

Another couple of cool cutters, Jack! You just happen to have a Jolly Roger to use for a backdrop for your rope knife?? That Oates penknife has SO many desirable features!:cool:

One for tomorrow, one just for today

I haven't listened to The Doors in ages; thanks for the memories! ;) Great photo of a delicious duo that deserves to be posted in the "notable pairs" thread!:thumbup:

In addition to my ebony Presidential, I carried this ebony Ancient TC Barlow.

Very appealing Ancient, Dean! (How do you light your photos with that black background?)

A new arrival that is fitting for wooden Wednesday. Snakewood #47:
I had my Ebony TC with me again today. :D

For some reason, I usually think that wood handles are rather plain, prosaic, pedestrian. Then I see knives like pearl2291's stunning snakewood or Ron's elegant ebony, and I realize what an idiot I am!

My "big knife" for this week is a 5" Rough Rider fish knife that's perfect for picnics (if only the weather would cooperate):

This week's "miscellaneous" knife is a Rough Rider clip/pen Barlow:

Gary - Thank you! :) Lovely bone as usual my friend! Don't be too hard on yourself, just BUY SOME EBONY!!! :D

I am still under the weather so this old Schrade Cut. Co. should handle anything around the house today! ;)

I still have one of those Western lockbacks, it has ducks and not quite as good shape with black handles. Carried it in high school in a leather sheath.
Yours looks real nice.

Thanks, got that in 79 [I think] as a gift from my wife.
Solid little knife. I really like it.

TsarBomba:
Thanks for the link!

GT: Thanks! I'm loving it so far. I thought it might be a little small for me at 3.5" closed, but it's really nicely proportioned.

I've got it with me again today:
