What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I know I keep reusing this pic, but I can't put this Davison down. Carrying it again today, and the A2 is starting to patina.

I can't blame you, that is stunning!

Thanks, Jack. That thread caused me to reflect on the year and what was important as far as my knife carry.

:)

I went looking for this knife a few days ago and to my annoyance I couldn't find it .
I finally asked my wife if she had seen it and she straight away said " Oh that old funny knife
, I've been carrying that around with me for weeks , I didn't think you would mind , because its so old and you have all your new knives to play with "
When I asked to see it she just said its over on the bench with my rings .

LOL! Glad you found that one again Ken :D

Hey Jack Black!
Nice lookin' knife

Hi KG, glad you saw my post! :) Thanks again for the great knife

One of my top 5 for 'old friend's Friday'

Very nice Tim

Outstanding work and a great pic Glenn

An outstanding combination! :)

Beautiful! :)

The tournament was a big success Brett. It was a lot of fun and the local radio station was able to raise a lot of money for St. Judes.

I'll carry the stag tomorrow again as I celebrate my Grandpa's 82nd birthday with family...

Sounds like you're having a great weekend Jake, hope your Grandpa has a very happy birthday

I can't blame you, that is stunning!

Morning campers! ;) Hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend :) To conclude my week of carrying Stockman knives, I'm carrying this one by Joseph Rodgers

Too bad they don't make 'em like they used to... I love this one! Fine blade arrangement.

Thanks a lot JP, hope you have a lovely Sunday

JP Obviously, I don't know the size of Jack's Stockman knife, but you might be interested in Queen Cutlery's No.26 Small Stockman. It looks similar and has a low riding Sheepfoot making it good in the hand. Various bone, horn and wood versions.

Thanks, Will

I really like that RR scrimshaw stockman from r8shell Gary.

Thank you GT, love that scrimshaw RR that was done specially for you :)

One of my top 5 for 'old friend's Friday'
tumblr_o3wk4wW5Lg1rzq6m9o2_1280.jpg
Thanks, Bob and Tim; I'm obviously very fond of that example of r8shell's talent and generosity, too! :D Tim, that's a fine old friend you have there!

... Whether because of intrinsic merits of presentation and workmanship, or as pocketable manifestations of friendship and good company, or some combination of both, I'm grateful for the cutlery-- near and far-- that brightens my days.

~ P.
Well-said, Sarah! I'm astonished by the emotional lift that I get from my "knife life": I certainly enjoy the "workmanship", but the "manifestations of friendship" are even better, and seeing others' fine "cutlery-- near and far" brings me a surprising amount of enjoyment!:thumbup:

What an honor to make it from regular rotation to Gary's everyday carry! The big leagues for a knife!

I've got my two newest with me. Case Punch Stockman

Coyote

Congrats on those two beauties, Rachel!

…
I just wanted to echo Rachel in saying that it's an honor to know that I supplied a knife that makes regular rotation for you, GT. It makes me smile every time you post about it. Us porch members tend to move from one knife to the next at an alarming pace. It's special to me to know that I contributed to somebody finding one that has stayed in favor for so long.
Rachel and Cory, the honor is all mine in being the recipient of your generosity!:thumbup: Rachel, it's interesting that you mention "big leagues", since I've used that analogy myself. But in my version, some of the Porch residents are real major leaguers when it comes to knife knowledge and collection quality, while I'm just a church league softball guy. But even a rank amateur like me can occasionally "make a play" that's very similar to what the pros do every day, and I can watch, enjoy, and appreciate what the players in the big leagues do.

…
I am continuing to carry knives this week without a thought towards practicality, just knives that elevate my mood. Today an old-ish friend I picked up in the early 90's, an A.G. Russell Cattaraugus Trapper that doesn't see enough pocket time. Also a Peanut that has never seen any pocket time, maiden voyage today. Happy Friday All!

John Lloyd Lanny's Clip with a beer scout today, hope everyone is having a fine weekend.

Two more compelling combos, Tom! (That black Beer Scout and white Delrin Peanut would make a striking pair!) I've really appreciated your meteorologically-inspired, mood-altering carries this week!

This Queen copperhead for me today. I spent a lot of time on a diamond stone thinning the primary grind. I also gave it a nice acute edge. It's a real slicer now!

Gorgeous knife (and edge), Robb!

A joyous Friday to you all. Some beautiful photographs over the last few days.

paul
The photo of your 25 definitely made my Friday more joyous, Paul!

Thanks GT :) The photo was taken atop the ancient walls of Knaresborough Castle

That's a very versatile pair right there my friend. Lovely to see your specially scrimshawed Peanut again too :)
…
Thanks, Jack. :) The Electrician and Peanut do provide a lot of variety: spear, sheepsfoot, clip, and pen blades as well as some other tools (awl, screwdriver, bottle opener). The little scrimshawed knife from Rachel is actually a stockman pattern, and illustrates that another of her talents is wielding a sharpening stone! ;)

…
A very classic looking pair, GT.
…
I'm carrying my knife of 2015 and daily home companion today. Not only useful but also a great knife to CE and CF.

Thanks, Dean. :) That 38 sure is an impressive pocket knife; I'd never noticed the rattail bolsters before! Happy belated birthday greetings; hope you enjoy your 30s! :D

The peanut is usually in my watch pocket. The Northwoods was a Christmas present from my wife, the TC was my birthday gift a couple years prior and the Buck was my fathers. All are special to me. So I have several choice on what I will carry today on my birthday.

Dave
Hope you had a Happy Birthday, Dave, and thanks for sharing those special knives!

Just received this and had to pocket it immediately.
That's a stunning stag Peanut! :eek::thumbup:

This is in my watch pocket today:thumbup:
Wow, Ernie, that is a very distinguished pen knife!

…Another crack of dawn start for me tomorrow, but at least it's recreation rather than work this time :) I generally don't enter the frequent generous giveaways here, in no small part due to the incredible luck I've had in the past :) Obviously, the first time I won, I was particularly thrilled, and the prize most generously offered by KG, was this Case Medium Stockman. It's a knife I often carry when pocket space is at a premium or when a small knife is most appropriate. It certainly qualifies as another old friend I think. Thanks again KG

Beautiful blue stockman, Jack; thanks for sharing the back story!

Carrying this one today...

Superb, Glenn!

…Have a great weekend everyone! Hopefully the stag brings me luck for the St Jude's bowling tournament this evening! I'll be sure to throw a couple strikes for you and the family Brett.

I hope your bowling was enjoyable, Jake; fantastic stag 85!

Thanks again to Dr.Mabuse for the amazing deal. I like it.

…
Very appealing Dixie stockman, Brett!

A great day in the woods:
Macchina, that workhorse is a striking pen knife!

…Spring has sprung in SE Tennessee.:) Today is my 48 Cranberry Jigged Bone, with one of about a gazillion blooms from my 37 year old Tulip tree. Photography by Pam!;) Wow, I'm a blessed man! :D

Beautiful photo, knife, and sentiments, Ron!

…Here's the Bulldog canoe I carried today.

Looks like a valuable variation, Frank!

That big jack sure is NOT chicken feed!;)

Carrying my ebony talon today. This one has been carried almost everyday for the past year and a half.

Splendid pic of a superlative knife!

Very nice, Jack. I certainly have enjoyed your "theme week" displaying some of your stockman examples! Any other themes upcoming??

Some of my "Can't Wait Weekend" carries are Case chestnut bone CV SBs: SodBuster Jr (thanks, Bob), SowBelly Stockman (thanks, Ron), and SwayBack Jack (thanks, Paul).

That's a really nice Stockman Will. My Joseph Rodgers is 4"

So it is! :D :o Thanks for the correction my friend

Thanks again GT :) I Will have to have a think about that, I've certainly got a few clasp knives that are owed some carry time ;)

Those are 3 smashing Case knives my friend, lovely bone. I think the Swayback is particularly handsome

Shipwright, that's a great Davison! Be sure to post some user pics in Todd's thread. I don't have a knife in A2 from him...watch out wallet, lol.

I love the contrast between the patina, the deep rust red and the brass pins on that swayback GT. (Bowling was fantastic, I rolled a 210, 249 and a 257 )

Jack, excellent old stockman! A low riding sheep is always nice...

This Sunday I have my Openiel gardener , my Case Barlow in Red Bone ,and my black Wenger small SAK. OH I also have my S&W kickback folder in my back pocket.

Mild with light snow today, these two are with me

Dan Graves fixed blade in Sambar stag and Dan's own damascus, along with a Diamond Edge cattle knife, from Tom Ploppert, CPM 154 and stag

A very fine conclusion to the week of stockmen Mr. Jack !:)

Beauty of a knife, that Queen, Will.:)

Just a few ole Barlows in my pockets today:

Jack That Rodgers at 4" is quite a lot bigger than the knife from Queen at 3.25". It looks a relatively narrow knife though with some useful low joints, perhaps Jolipapa might consider the GEC 81 Abilene Stock Knife, they're 4" and much less bulky that the CASE Large Stockman (a fine knife but too big for my carry taste).

Primble Many thanks to you too, I'm very fond of that Queen No.26, great build on it, super W&T and no quality faults at all. It's a bit like having a 3 blade Penknife. That Ulster Barlow of yours has benchmark standard Sawn Bone on it, mellow! And those pins...:thumbup::eek::cool:

Shipwright, that's a great Davison! Be sure to post some user pics in Todd's thread. I don't have a knife in A2 from him...watch out wallet, lol

Thanks, you will certainly be seeing more of this one. I'll put an updated group shot of my Davisons over on his thread once my custom order from him comes in. That will also be a spear blade in A2 with a long pull.
