What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I came across this pic while "cleaning" my phone. I had taken this on opening day of Maryland deer season, and couldn't get it posted due to phone/BF/Photobucket issues when using my phone. It deserves a post. I carried this knife, that day, as it was my Great Grandfather's deer hunting knife. I don't think it is ancient, he probably bought/carried it in his later years. I never knew the man, but my Dad gifted this to me a few Christmas' ago and I feel like he is with me when I carry it.

Have a great day!

Looks like a Case Tested XX SAB Folding Hunter from the 1932-1940 era, from what I can see of the tangs. Nice and surely special !!!:thumbup::thumbup::)

Nice patina on the bone and blades as well. ;):)

Thank you for the info and kind words. All I can say is, when I carry it, I feel different, I'm drawn to it. It is special.

I meant to say stag, not bone. I would say very different feeling being your great grandfather's knife. ;)

If the tangs do read CASE XX Tested, it is a pretty valuable knife in it's current condition, aside of the specialness of being an heirloom knife. :)

I took the Barlow challenge for March so today I got a Kutmaster in my pocket Plus an Imperial 3 1/2 inch Stock man.

Off to see ADEE today, and have a rummage in his local flea-market. Got this William Rodgers Sleeveboard in my pocket

Jack's rummaging today! :D I look forward to seeing what lands on your table.

Great-looking old pruner, Rachel! What's the mystery?

Only that it has no maker's marks. I picked it up in a junk shop for a few dollars and don't have a clue to its age or origin. Solid enough worker, though.

Get busy for a week and you're 20 pages behind! :grumpy:

Fantastic knives as always, everybody. I have been collecting posts to respond to and once I find a little more time I will be sure to comment on everyone's knives. For now, I figured I'd catch this week up (I took a hurried photo of yesterday's carry but never found time to post it) and knock wood that the rest of the week goes a little more smoothly.

I enjoyed using nothing but a smallish stockman for a week but I can't even begin to express how good it felt to throw a heap of steel into my pants (yes, I know how that sounds :o :p). Monday's carry restored the Barlow balance in my life :D:

Today's loadout, a familiar pair:

Oh, and my new 'yote just arrived.

Thank you Dean and some fine church soup.:D

Thanks, Rob!

Wow! :thumbup::thumbup:

I can't get over how great that knife looks, Jake.

Ok, I've fallen in love with another of your knives, Rob. A - Z fantastic. :)

A worry stone and Lanny Clip. I found 5 of these white stones in the forest surrounded by muck and brush.
Decided to see if I could balance them as a game. Nice way to find balance and patience.

Great shot of the Lanny's clip, Tim. You are a very patient person!

Thanks, Dean. :) Great church choice!

Thanks, Gary.

Oh, and my new 'yote just arrived.

Great photo of that Osage coyote, TsarBomba. Looks like you got a good one.

I felt ancient today. This Barlow finds its way into my pocket more often than any other.

Great knives everyone!

Thanks for the kind comments Jack, redeagle66 and GT.

Nice Barlows Primble, Tsar and Dean.

I found a whole bunch of knives at the farmers market this past weekend. Among others I picked up these two.
A Grohmann in a pattern I hadn't seen before and a Vic Cadet II.

Have a good one everyone.

Thanks Dean! It's sitting under the window of a really old chicken coop in my girlfriend's back yard.

Have a great rummage with ADEE Jack and I love everything about your William Rodgers Sleeveboard:cool::thumbup:

The straight bar shield is perfect for that knife, like Lyles on his Lick Creeks:thumbup:

Thanks a lot Paul, sorry for the small pic, Photobucket was playing up this morning, so I used a Google link

Fine old centenarian, Jack!

Have a great trip, Jack! Beautiful tip-bolstered, bar-shielded sleeveboard!

Traveling light today my friend. A fine pick for just one knife though ! Have a fine time.:)

Thanks my friend, I usually have a load of recent finds to show ADEE, but I haven't done much hunting since my last visit ;) Those are two more spectacular Barlows :)

What a great knife to have :)

Jack's rummaging today! :D I look forward to seeing what lands on your table.

LOL! :D Only a rusty Ibbersons clasp knife, a worn Lambsfoot with a tang-stamp I can't read yet, a nice corkscrew, and an 1806 penny today. ADEE bought me lunch though :) :D

Get busy for a week and you're 20 pages behind! :grumpy:

Too true! :D Good to have you back

Nice finds Ken

Oh man, I LOVE stories like this. Family knives are the best! What an amazing connection you have to your own past.
