What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

after bathing, oiling and reprofiling, the 2015 Forum knife has become one of my favorite carries.

A Tale of Two Knife Handles It was the gnarliest of times, it was the smoothest of times, it was the age of folding-knives, it was the age of fixed knives, it was what I carried today, it was what I carried yesterday, it was carbon, it was tool-steel....

Contrast of naturally formed bark like antler and super smooth but textured man-made synthetic, both of these knives please me and get used a lot, both are about the same size, the right size for me. GEC Sambar Stag 83 lockback and Bark River Natural Micarta Pro-Scalpel.

Thanks Dean, I'm with you on the Grinling Whittler being a production marvel, it amazes me the tolerance levels GEC achieved on this knife and Mark's Fish Barlow is a joy to carry:)

Duncan and I spoke the other night about the build quality of the TC's, what a joy it is to carry such quality knives. Your jigged bone spear harkens back to a golden age:thumbup:

Thanks, Paul. I agree.

Every day... :D

Looking good! Always nice to see a knife that is well used and loved.

after bathing, oiling and reprofiling, the 2015 Forum knife has become one of my favorite carries.

Great photos! What a knife; good job on the work you did.

Today, since I did a little work (I am retired after all), I carried this Saw cut, saddle brown bone, Day's Work, TC Barlow.

Blimey, you go away for a few days...:D Think I'm going to have to spend the rest of the week catching up, Trad it not the sleepy corner of BF it once was! :D

I've been carrying these three since Friday (and my Enzo Elver on and off), still got them in my pockets now

Your 83 is getting some nice color on that Stag Will !!! Looks great !!!

…My Ivory Fish Barlow and a new arrival, a #38 Grinling with amazing jigged bone:thumbup::cool:

Congrats on the spectacular whittler, Paul! (And, of course, the ivory Barlow Mark made is still out of this world!)

… the idea of a sports team theme week is outstanding given that we're on the cusp of baseball season already, so starting tomorrow I am going to see if I can make it work. The added bonus challenge is that tomorrow was to be the inaugural Synthetic Sunday, so I will have to be creative to satisfy both criteria.
...
Klass 1980 NKCA "the gunstock so nice I had to get it twice", Queen #69 skate key Barlow, and a 2-blade Case #0096 certain forums don't believe even exists. And because the Klass's pile side is the star of that particular show...

Looking forward to your sports team theme, TB! Excellent stag examples; that little 2-blade toothpick “knocks my socks off”!

Similar Queen knives of that era had winterbottom jigged bone handles and others had "imitation" winterbottom bone. I believe these are the imitation variety, mostly because the color seems to have faded away.
Thanks for the handle info, Atiger. :)

…
This one still in my pocket...

IMG_1142.jpg

…
Hard to believe that amazing knife would EVER leave your pocket, Chui!

In keeping with my sports theme this week I have some gold and black onboard today, intended to represent the University of Missouri. Coincidentally it is also my alma mater :).

Great pairing, Tom; I’m enjoying your theme! My alma mater is Purdue University, whose colors are, coincidentally, (old) gold and black! ;)

…Todays carry are the same Vic electrician and a TC Barlow in ebony.

Have a good one!

Ken K.
Charming knives, Ken, (and I like the silver and black color combination, too)!

…
Today's carry was a red jigged bone spear point TC Barlow.

Lovely Barlow, Dean! If I understand the numbers on GEC tang stamps, that knife has 1521 as its first four digits, right?

…Today's Sports Challenge coupled with Synthetic Sunday carry. Took a bit of creativity to make it work, but I managed to fit both bills:
...
(OK, OK, so I had to cheat a little to find a red synthetic-handled knife. :D Witness the mark side...)

…
Nicely played, Tsar, getting your red/white/blue (sort of ;)) with synthetic handles!

Still the toe for the extended easter weekend. I can't but to admire the bone every time I pull this out and check the shield too.. Perfection!
That’s a wonderful pic of that giant, A.L.!

…Today it is going to be Micarta Monday for me :D Hope everyone has a good one

Fine way to kick off the week, Ron!

Superb knives, balor, and I REALLY like the photo showing how the blade shapes "switch" between main and secondary blades on the 2 knives!:cool:

Today's and yesterdays carry. A little Curtain and Clark I found in an antique store a long time ago. ...

Curtain and Clark

...
Looks like some interesting patterns on the covers of your Curtain and Clark, Gev! And are those onions (or scallions or leeks) that you've got there already?? (Or maybe just daffodils?)

This #18 Coyote is my only knife in camel bone. I guess it's more dense than cow bone, and that's why it takes the dye so unevenly? I like it. It looks and feels more like polished agate than bone.
...

And for any harder work that comes up today:
Congrats on (another?) Coyote, Rachel! The punch stockman looks like a serious knife!

Love to see it, Jeff!

...
Today I'm going with Northwoods Indian River Jack and a red cross Vic Popular.

Have a nice day all.

Ken K.
Both breathtaking, Ken!

...
My "Big Red" pairing today, to represent the former St. Louis, now Arizona, Cardinals. :)

Vibrant red and white combo, Tom! (Do you root for both the Chiefs and the Cardinals?) What is that red knife with the screwdriver built in??

Thanks for another entertaining literary allusion, Will!:D Always a joy to see your famous stag 83!

Welcome back, Jack; a fine trio you posted! And if the photos are recent, it looks like you had at least SOME decent weather by the sea!

This week I'm carrying these knives, among others.

Smashing photos!!! I'm envious of that location...wow!

Gary
Very old photo of the Curtain and Clark. That photo was taken of one of my walks around the lake downtown and specifically at the community garden called Deep Eddy. The handles are a celluloid I call topographic;):D Great mod on the Opinel. They are such good knives it was hard to kick mine out of my pocket but its always in my pack anyway.

The camel bone #18 is a gem! Fantastic looking

Will

Smoking pair you are sporting today Sir!!!

Thank you for the kind comments, Gary. You are correct on the GEC numbers; they have one of the more logical systems for model, blade(s) and year information on a knife.

It's a pleasure to see your Electrician!

Couldn't make up my mind this morning so I grabbed this GEC stag #25EO and this S&M Winterbottom Barlow #69 A couple of bare heads just like me. :D

What a beaut! It looks better the more you use and carry it, for sure. I'm so glad you got it back.

Trying this 57 out today

I carried my own #57 (wharncliffe main) over the week end. Interesting take on the whittler, these.

-- What sheath is pictured, that I'm assuming you're using with that GEC fixed blade? I didn't care for GEC's sheath offering so didn't get one when I bought the same knife, but yours looks promising.

Thanks Tim!

Made it back home safe and sound, had this 77 along for the ride home. :D

Thanks Ron :) Can't wait to show you a 77 mod I have lined up for a clip. That red sawcut is great. Was probably one of my favourite 77's

I think I'll carry this one for a couple days. Have a great Easter Sunday!

Davison #1201, ATS-34, Desert Ironwood.

Not a gravel photo again ...double bomb shields are fantastic Jake. One of my favourite Davisons of your impressive lineup.

Happy Easter.

Hope you finally got something to eat Bob ;)

Here was today's carry in an Erickson Zulu since I knew I had something coming and today's half carry (single blade stockman) by mailcall.
Yellow Westinghouse Micarta makes me happy on a gloomy Monday like this.

I've been carrying the little stag #25 since Saturday. It's definitely helping me get over my aversion to carrying my nicer knives.
