What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I carried a special knife for a special event today.

Doc Hagen LC that is one of the top treasured knives I own. Knives gifted are always special. The event happens once every 4 years and the people in attendance are outstanding people, as knife people tend to be. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Cleaning up and working in the garage this afternoon. Found this old and sturdy oil pumper. Don't forget to oil the joints!

P.S. the pumper was filled with used motor oil from a previous owner, an old guy I didn't know too well but got some of his tools when he passed. I wonder what he put that toxic stuff on...

- have a wonderful full-on day in Sheffield, Jack   - sounds like you're going to have a blast..........and the weather's stunning today. Enjoy... :)

@Jack - have a good day out my friend, glad to see you have some trusty companions with you!

Thanks a lot gents, it was an excellent day, an enjoyable walk along the banks of the River Porter in superb weather, a visit to the old water-powered cutlery wheel I mentioned, with the wheel in spin, some delicious food, a couple of pints, and a really enjoyable production at the theatre (with lots of cutlery content) :) We were only let down by the trains (substantial delays and 2 hours to cover 33 miles!), meaning we didn't get back in Leeds until 1.00am, a bit late for me these days ;)

The stag on your 25 is mesmerising Paul

Jack I hope you are doing well pal, not sure if you'll remember but Olivia still has the little pig flashlight you sent many years ago, also I stopped purchaseing knives about 2 years ago, so I could enjoy my accumulated bounty, but I will say every time you show a lambsfoot my pulse quickens, one of these days I'll add a Real Lambsfoot to my collection.

Early morning wild blackberry harvest, I have to compete with all the other critters

Hey Pete, hope you're good my friend, and that life is still treating you well :) I do remember, I also remember the cute picture of Olivia with it :) I think a Lambsfoot might suit you, we'll have to look into that one. Nice crop of blackberries, I must go and check mine to see if they're out :)

Viva L'Outrages! Sounds like a good show.

Rarebits reminds me of a Tudor-era joke: There were too many Welshmen getting into heaven, so St Peter went outside the gates and yelled "toasted cheese"! All the Welsh ran outside, and St Peter slammed the gates behind them.

what's dit up thy sight?

Woops, knife pic-

LOL! Not heard that one before :D It was an excellent show, they even got some of the history right,.and it was nice to hear some of the songs of the cutler's favourite poet, Joseph Mather (who I must post about some day) sung aloud :)

Nicely captured Shawn

Another beauty Paul

That's a great-looking pattern Randy

The nextdoor neighbour has been helping me out in the garden, to do the job the landlady is paid for!

Glad you're keeping busy Thom, I think we need to see more of that Elwell

Stunning Jake

Thanks, Jack. I hope Sheffield on a Saturday (day and) night was enjoyable; the poetry indicates it’s a “happening” place. ;) Fantastic I*XL pearl pen knife!:thumbup:

It certainly was thanks my friend :) All the old visitors to Sheffield seem to agree on at least two things - that it was mucky as Hell, and that it had more pubs by far than anywhere else they had ever been! :D

Thanks for the kind comments on my IXL, here it is in use yesterday ;)

Carrying my Lick Creek #14 Barlow today :) Have a great Sunday everyone

Jack - I wonder how many slices of cake that IXL has tackled in the past.
Hope you enjoyed the play?

I'm sure I can arrange a few more snaps of the Elwell, in the right kinda setting though.

Finally time for something different today, figured it has been a while since I carried my Victorinox Solo Alox. Infinitely more agreeable than my Ablett Barlow.

Morning Thom, I hope you're having a good weekend my friend  I think I can safely say that the IXL has tackled a slice or two of cake in the past :o ;) :D The play was excellent

Thanks Ron, you too. Just finishing my coffee and then headed out for my morning swim.

Alan

Enjoy your Sunday's Jack, Ron and everyone else! No knives for me, I'm going skiing and tubing on the lake...don't worry, I'll pack the flare gun. That should make quick work of any clam shell packaging.

Good day, folks. A nice fellow gifted me this Schrade Walden 141 "Bear Head" . I used it around the house house yesterday.... I always feel these old knives are sad to sit in a box unused so I try to get them out to do a little work when I can.
Thank you all for the nice words about the Black Box Stockman. BTW, do any of you know who made these Black Box knives for Winchester?

Thanks Rachel! :)

I really like it; The stainless blades came from the factory (in China, I think) highly polished and sharp. The size, at about 3 5/8" closed fits my hand nicely. The plastic, delrin-like scales are hafted nicely to fair into the bolsters and the edges of the scales. (At my age, faux-stag scales like this are sorta nostalgic.) It's blade pulls are a bit heavy - perhaps about a "7" on a scale from 1 to 10. If I keep the joints oiled it goes down a little, to about a 6 or so.

It was a gift from a good friend because he know that I liked to whittle with my pocket knives. Alas, like as often seems to be the case with CRKT, this line of knives has been discontinued, I think.
