What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I am completely embarrassed!:o
Back a bit in this thread (September 16), there are a couple of pages of Birthday wishes from many of you wonderful folks!!
I don't come here too often, probably because I rarely change what's in my pocket, so don't think of it.
So I missed the wishes!!:(
But I appreciate them very much!!:thumbup:
Thank You, Thank You All!!

I've been carrying the Stag Forum knife for a while, but I added the Tomato Congress for the day, to remind me how generous and good you all are! I think I will keep it in my pocket for a while - it's such a great knife!!

A happy belated to you Charlie~

It's been a cold and dreary 54f in New England with rain all day. Toted this one round in my pocket round the house.

This is a slow thread today, has everyone gone fishing?! ;) :D I'm going out this evening with some friends, so switching to this Albert Oates Senator

That is a translucent beauty, Jack!

I was fishing for Barlows at the flea market today. :)

This Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett OVB today...

Congrats to tmd and all the others who are taking delivery on the new run of 77 Barlows!

... I switched it up to the MAM.....I had apples to slay. :D

Recycled pic because it's dark and I am lazy.
That MAM is born to cut, FBC! I'm glad you remarked that this is a recycled pic, because I was starting to worry that in your enthusiasm to slay apples, you accidentally/unintentionally massacred a bunch of innocent tomatoes!

Thank you brother
Thank you 5k q for the compliment I love that amber bone sod buster of yours
Thanks, johnnyfive. The amber SBJr is real nice, although I think I like my CV chestnut jigged bone SBJr even better! ;)

Schrade 163 sm case xx five dot "1975" stockman
That's an awesome pair, J5; that big old Schrade especially looks like it's ALL business!

...
I have these two trousered today :) Have a great weekend everyone

Great knives, Jack, and I think I like the phrase you used almost as much as the knives!!:D:cool: "Trousered" - Brilliant!

...
Until I can get my 2 new 77's out of the tubes I will just have to make do with this old red thingy

29959984471_35dced465d_b_d.jpg
Exactly my friend, if I didn't have Old Red I might have to break out my African Blackwood clip and get it some love!:D I am at my daughters again this weekend so I hope to have my Green and Copperhead Sawcut on display soon. No red for me this time. I will admit they are lookers. :D I have not even taken time to photograph all of my Rendezvous goodies and the ones I have added to the flock since then. With the Forum knives coming also, what's a man to do!
Old Red rocks, Ron, as usual! I admire your knife, but I admire even more your positive, cheerful attitude in the face of overwhelming adversity!!!:D:D

I'm building some 2x4 and plywood shelves for our shed today, so the Camillus 72 whittler's knife (a.k.a. carpenter's knife) seems an appropriate choice.

Camillus still looks superb, Greg! Hope the shed shelf project was a success.

Case Teardrop in cv.

2¾" Craftsman
Congrats on the new Case Teardrop, Rachel; that stag bone is quite impressive!
Is the cool little Craftsman also new-to-you? I don't remember seeing it before (which means less with each passing day :o), but that's a nifty little stockman (stockboy?).

...
Just received my Gray Sawcut Trappernut. This is the first Case knife I've received where the covers have disappointed me. The color is more blue and white than gray, and the Sawcut is only seen on the mark side. I'll sit on it a couple of days before deciding if I'll send it back or keep it and dye it.

lbXZbck.jpg
Sorry to hear your new Trappernut doesn't meet expectations, Shawn. :( I kinda like the color (although there's nothing gray about it), but the sawcut inadequacies seem unacceptable.

Todays Kutmaster tl-29 by way of Utica, NY has had a long life as a work knife. It is in the process of going into retirement.
Stock wood slabs sanded to 5K then a few baths in BLO. Secondary is being turned into a cap lifter.

It's the (comparatively) easy life for the future days of this knife.

...
If anyone has any way to tell what the wood used on the slabs, I would love to figure it out. From what I can tell from the refinishing process, it seems to be similar to Zitan (Red Sandalwood).
I admire the way you treat your knife, Bill, and are putting it out to pasture. Was its long life as a work knife with you? Are you also preparing for an easier future soon?

That 2-bladed Twin Cutters TC Barlow looks fabulous, Paul! Enjoy your bon voyage fiesta. I'd forgotten about picnics already; it's been cool and rainy for a week here! :(

This weekend I'm carrying some knives I bought recently but haven't worked into my weekly rotation yet.
A Rough Rider Diamond Jim canoe (that's supposed to have black smooth bone covers, but the dye sure didn't "take" on the mark side):

GT, you're really walking around with four canoes in your pockets? You're quickly approaching the point where the men in the white coats come and take you away. :p

Come on, Cory, each canoe is completely different! Well, maybe not COMPLETELY different, but they're certainly not identical. Kind of like the situation with your kids, right??? :D:D

(Besides, I'm in the privacy of my own home. It's not like I'm out on the street brandishing fistsful of canoes!)

Thank you, Gary, I'm very pleased with the teardrop. I've had the wee Craftsman for a while, but this is the first time I'm carrying it. It's been sitting in a small pile of odds and ends, waiting patiently for a bit of TLC. Speaking of, how is the horn holding up on that pruner of yours? I remember you were thinking of sanding down some rough spots, maybe a bit of wax?

You crack me up. I keep waiting for you to hit your limit on the number of knives you carry and you just never get there. I can only imagine what your wife thinks. A couple of years ago she was married to a perfectly respectable professor. Now she's got the cutlery version of Scrooge McDuck. At some point she's going to find you in the garage swimming through piles of slipjoints. :p

I love getting to experience your enjoyment of this hobby second-hand. As far as I know you've never met a knife you didn't love. I love reading your posts and seeing how excited you are about each and every knife you own. Thanks for sharing.

Well, Dean, in mathematics, we sometimes discuss various sizes of infinity! ;):D

My wife doesn't say much about my relatively new interest in pocket knives, since all my "stuff" is confined to a couple of shelves behind a closed cupboard door, while she has rooms full of yarn, fabric, and various sewing machines. :D The Scrooge McDuck image is not completely off base, though, on Monday mornings when I'm going through my Plano boxes picking out the knives prescribed for the week!:D

I DO thoroughly enjoy almost all of my knives, and almost all of everyone else's knives, for that matter. Like you, I get a big vicarious kick out of seeing how excited folks get about their latest finds!:cool:

Thank you gt that schrade is all business and it's my pleasure.
I love the fist full of canoes
Thanks; I like that description of your Schrade, johnny! :D

Thanks for the info, Rachel. I haven't done anything to the flaky horn on the pile side of the pruner, because I didn't get any expert suggestions. I suppose I should try a little googling and then take action! ;)

Thanks, Harry. :) I like them too, although they both have "issues". I think the canoe looks fantastic, but it's not really ram's horn, it's ram's horn bone - bone dyed and jigged to simulate ram's horn. The pruner IS real ram's horn, as far as I can tell, but it's flaking on the pile side, as shown in the photo below. I'm wondering whether I can sand off the flakes and them use mineral oil or beeswax or some other sort of lubricant or sealant to prevent further "disintegration".

GT I think I would just go with the flow and see what happens to the flakes with the natural oils from your hands . Knives with Rams Horn handles have been used for many years. There may be something that you can put on it , but i do not know what would be best. I have heard a couple of different things , but can not suggest anything.

Thanks Harry, anxiously awaiting a #77 barlow next week, until then I'll just admire yours:thumbup::)
