What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Gevonovich, the Barlow I carried as a kid was a Ulster with a clip and pen secondary. This thread is sure making me wax nostalgia today.

Chris

It's one of my favorites lately and almost always in a pocket. It pleases me that it brought back some old memories for you as a kid, Chris!:D Your carry today is simply outstanding..wow!

That is a beautiful knife Curtis

With extra work, and most of my annual social calendar crammed into about 3 weeks in December, I'm struggling to keep up at the moment, particularly as my internet connection has been terrible, but hoping to be able to spend an hour or two here today :) Hope everyone is having a great weekend

Thanks GT, you should have seen the beach. Why oh why did I come home? From 80 degrees to 10 with snow.
Good luck with resetting your mental thermostat, Alan. ;)

Thanks GT, I was going to switch it up today but the canoe just seemed right again today.

Pete
I think that canoe would seem right every day, Pete!

ABS Master Smith Steve Dunn, sole authorship, elephant ivory and mosaic damascus

A lovely knife that I enjoy carrying. I bought this of of Steve in 2012 or 11 at M.S. Josh Smith's house. I talked with Steve this year at ICCE in KC and showed him this knife. He was thrilled to see it again and told me I take very good care of it. He flagged me down outside the hotel, so he could show another gentlemen the knife.

I'm putting these three ravishing knives back-to-back-to-back, and hoping it doesn't send anyone into cardiac arrest!:thumbup: Each of these just knocked my socks off! Kris & kent67 & Jake, thanks for sharing those exquisite knives with us!!! I'm basically speechless, and will just echo Jake with a quote from one of my grandmas: Goodness, gracious, sakes alive!!!:thumbup:

Thanks GT, put it in your diary for January ;) Some songs deserve to be forgotten! :D You look like you're as well prepared as always my friend. Hope you have a great weekend :)

Propitious pruner, Gev! And with all those coins in your pockets, your theme song must be "Jingle Bells" as you walk around! ;)

Thanks, Gary! That MAM looks like a sturdy companion.
...
Thanks, Dean. The spine-to-edge height of that MAM provides about 200 more years of sharpening than I'm going to need.

This just came in the mail last night! I'll post a better picture later in the "latest addition" forum. I wanted this to match my Ultra Violet Peanut :)

Congrats on the Deep Purple, John!

Number 10 again today.

Perfect 10, Dean; love that Ulster Barlow!

Thanks, GT! I like new knives and old knives, but there's something so cool about carrying a 100 year old knife!

I like that MAM Sheepsfoot- very utilitarian. Here's a rustic utility knife I just got:

...
Thanks, r8shell. Congrats on the Okapi! I was looking for one of those, but due to my inherent impatience, I ended up just getting a Cold Steel Kudu to "tide me over." :o

I've been busy so I haven't posted in a while. Minus 15 degrees C here today. Chilly!

I carried these today. A Grohmann and a Vic Soldier.

Ken K.
Welcome back, Ken; as usual, you have an admirable pair of knives! Stay warm!

This was what I was Totin today. :D

Ron, that's a fantastic jack knife! (Just a pen blade short of perfection. ;)) And your subsequent stag Case Barlow is no slouch either!

Snowy Saturday here in NE. Got some indoor activities planned for my grandson and I to hone our skills. I set up an indoor range in his basement with a catch box. :D

aQa7ZYe.jpg
Very cool, Bob! Reminded me of my brothers and I getting Daisy air rifles for Christmas and getting a bunch of Sears catalogs to set up our range in the basement. There was heck to pay if a stray BB made it to the shelves where all the jars of home-canned fruit and vegetables were stored! :o

My carry for the day. My dad whittled this slingshot for me almost 40 years ago. Thanks for bringing the memories back Bob

Chris
Very cool slingshot, Chris!

And just because - Romeo catching some rays before the temperature drops tonight. I added a heating pad to his bunker;)

Your battle cry cracked me up, Gev! :D Where do you guys find all your ball bearings?? When I was a kid, we just used whatever little stones we could kick up. Romeo has found himself an amazing gig with you, sir!

...
Thanks GT. Really like the MAM sheepsfoot. Looks to be a very useful knife with endless possibilities for customizing. Great Rough Rider collection as well. I really like the "be prepared" shield and equation in the smooth bone  Any idea the method that was used to place it there? Is it smooth to the touch or etched in place?
Thanks for the kind words on my "humble" knives, StoneBeard. :) r8shell did the scrimshaw equation (and a splendid feather on the other side). My understanding is that the design is "engraved" into the bone with a sharp scribe/stylus/pin and then ink is added to the resulting grooves. I can't feel the engraving, but I think after the ink has dried, a clear seal (beeswax, maybe?) is applied to preserve the design.

...
Bottom knife is today's carry; the other one just showed up in the mail.

Congrats on the new TC, Dean; super appealing! And your 38 is as handsome as ever!

Finally got up the nerve to put this in my pocket after having it almost a year.

'Tis the season for a gorgeous red knife in your pocket! Hope you enjoy it, Wrangoslash!

Bodacious red burl, Dee! I hope we get to see your seasonal red and green burl twins together sometime in this week leading up to Christmas!:cool:

Daggum grass still hasn't died. I was wearing layers two days ago. I was sweating at a Christmas party today. I'll be wearing layers on Monday. I'll be sick in no time!

At least I found a few leaves that have turned.

TWibM7d.jpg
Phenomenal photo, Shawn! I guess we all have our crosses to bear, weather-wise. The weatherwoman yesterday said that a year ago on this date, our seasonal snowfall was 3.5", while this year it was 35"! My back will attest to that!

Classic, p&g!!

This one found its way into my pocket again today!
Still looks incredible, Ernie! That stag shadow pen deserves a posting in the "Stag Saturday" thread sometime!

Congrats, TheFactor; the charred oak beer barrel Beer Scout looks great!

Thanks 5K Qs 😊
Really liking those two Cases you posted makes me want to get another new knife .

Thanks GT. The steel balls can be purchased online. We shoot mostly lead though. It actually has a greater impact force than steel. I have a lead mold that I used to use for fishing weights and jigs that I modified slightly. You can get buckets of old lead wheel weights at the local junk yard. I poured so many a couple years ago, we're still working off the same bucket. Target practice is all captured and reused.

Today it's the Wharncliffe Whittler.

I had a trap box like that for my BB gun. Also a home-made twirling target.
And I'm sure I still have my latest slingshot somewhere. oops, knife

Nice donn. Milbro makes some nice tube shooters. Or as you fellas call them, catapults.:D
I like the wood on that Joker. I wasn't aware they made knives with carbon steel blades.

Cheers. I used to love mucking about with catapults, or slingshots as you folks call them :D Going to have to get a new band and ammo.
The Joker is olive wood and I'm sure a hollow-grind; a razor sharp little knife which I should use more often.

That's a nice Case, Bob! But I'm sad because I didn't have a slingshot as a kid; we just threw snowballs. :)

Since I live just east of you GT you'll understand my sentiments toward your first photo. It's only mid-December and I'm already longing for those "happier times". Looks like your whittling is improving Gary, did you do those with the peanut?

This has been in my pocket all day today and it's been making me wonder, "What more do I need?" It is a duplicate of the first knife I ever purchased. I visited the Sabre display at the local department store each time I was there. So when I got a paper route this was one of the very first things I bought. Wish I had the original but I do still enjoy this exact copy of the one I purchased, with my own money 55 years ago.
