America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.
Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!
Old but VERY good, Paul! 2-bladed spear main EO teardrop jacks of ANY vintage apparently rev my motor!...
An old circa 1920-1940 CASE EZ open Jack to end the year with.

Really admire your walnut Rogers jigged bone Case set, Harry! What do you think of the size of the baby butterbean? I like canoe patterns, but I wonder if some of those little ones are too small to be useful for me.
Nice coincidence, Bob.Thanks Gary. It just so happens that I had a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today. No lie.
Alan, thanks for the photography hints and the Douk-Douk testimonial. Thanks for all the kind comments Gary. I usually take my photos with either a bounce flash or near a window and try to minimize the reflections as much as possible. I carried that Douk-Douk for years. It's the best knife pound for pound or I should saw dollar for dollar.
Rachel, you have a kinder mind than I do; I was imagining the Douk-Douk slaying the sheep-sheep for some meat to add to my couscous. Is your douk-douk shearing that sheep-sheep?
Looks like a blank canvas to me!
Happy New Year!
Astounding knives as always, Pete!
Thanks for the knife IDs, Will. Interesting tradition you have regarding spirits for New Year's Eve/Day. :thumbup:GT It's New Year here already and unlike most days I'm not having a drink...kind of refrain when everybody else is drinking to a theme :barf: Therefore I can answer your question with a deal of clarity-for once..Top is a Hoffritz Serp Pen, from the 50s I suspect, Sabre ground and sunk-joints, I'd like to get a Custom version done someday but who can manage it?
Glenn re-handled it for me but unfortunately, it has subsequently developed a big crack out of the blue round the centre pin.
The bottom knife is a 66 Slim in Red Sawn Bone that I gave to an in Slovenia just before Christmas. The 66 Slim is a very nice no rub single spring 2 blade which is the sort I favour over Jacks.
All the best for 17!
Will
Dean, I haven't really put the douk-douk through its paces yet, so the jury is still out. The folded steel handle is similar to the ones on my hignokami and my Mercator Black Cat; in terms of handling comfort, the Black Cat is best of the three (no sense of sharp edges on the handle), followed by the dock-douk (OK), and higonokami (I actually made a small leather grip/cover to pad the sharp edges of the handle as well as to hold it closed in pocket) in that order. When closed, the tang of the Douk-Douk is quite prominent, as is true for many knives, and I don't find that feature to be endearing. With the bail, the knife can hang suspended in my pocket and I don't even notice I'm carrying it. Even without suspending it, the knife is slim and light, so I think it would carry quite nicely....
Thank you, Gary. How do you like your douk-douk: and is it easy to carry?
Thanks, Dee; given your inherent wisdom, I knew you'd catch my little pun there!...
Thanks, Gary! I see what you did there.....
Birthday knives today. Chili tomorrow? Sounds good, count me in.
Strong finish for 2016.
Happy New Year to you & yours as well!!!
Closing out the year with one of Mark's finest! Very nice, Drew! :thumbup:Good grief what an amazing bunch of knives today! This will be my final carry for 2016, my hat is off to you Mark:thumbup:
Happy New Years my friends, wishing all of you the very best in 2017

That stag 26 is absolutely, positively praiseworthy!:thumbup: How strong is the pull on that little guy?
Starting off the year with that notable knife makes me think this will be a splendid year for you, Jake!
Wishing you all a safe, healthy, peaceful, and joyful New Year!

Straight from the pages of the "Ugliest Traditional" thread, with some good advice for the New Year etched on the pen blade, comes this Rough Rider Zombie Nick canoe:

A Marbles ram's horn canoe; I love the crater in the pile side cover:

Thank you Gary, it should be a great year for knives!
Alan, it's a Reese Bose 3.5" modified stockman (wharny and pen, vs the normal sheep and spey). Weather hasn't been too bad lately, there's about 9-10" of snow on the ground and there's thick enough ice to go fishing on Chatauqua Lake tomorrow!!

I haven't carried it every day, but very frequently....
Being that I woke up with my pants still on this morning, I'm still carrying my #99 from yesterday![]()
