An old circa 1920-1940 CASE EZ open Jack to end the year with.

Old but VERY good, Paul! 2-bladed spear main EO teardrop jacks of ANY vintage apparently rev my motor!

Went in to the city today , so I carried these little guys . More terrible photos because it is too dark here when I want to take photos....
Harry
Really admire your walnut Rogers jigged bone Case set, Harry! What do you think of the size of the baby butterbean? I like canoe patterns, but I wonder if some of those little ones are too small to be useful for me.

Thanks Gary. It just so happens that I had a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today. No lie. :D
Nice coincidence, Bob. ;) I'm not a fan of plain tomato soup myself, although in my bachelor days I'd fix mac&cheese and stir in a can of tomato soup, some chopped up hot dogs, and frozen peas and have an entire food pyramid in a pot! Grilled cheese, especially with onions, always sounds good!

Thanks for all the kind comments Gary. I usually take my photos with either a bounce flash or near a window and try to minimize the reflections as much as possible. I carried that Douk-Douk for years. It's the best knife pound for pound or I should saw dollar for dollar.
Alan, thanks for the photography hints and the Douk-Douk testimonial.

Is your douk-douk shearing that sheep-sheep? :D
Looks like a blank canvas to me!
Happy New Year!
Rachel, you have a kinder mind than I do; I was imagining the Douk-Douk slaying the sheep-sheep for some meat to add to my couscous. :p
I can imagine that, to someone with your talents, the covers of my RR marlin spike look like a blank canvas. I might think that way if I had access to a scrimshaw stencil set, or maybe scrimshaw-by-number.

Happy and Safe New Years to all BF members

Pete
Astounding knives as always, Pete!

GT It's New Year here already and unlike most days I'm not having a drink...kind of refrain when everybody else is drinking to a theme :barf: Therefore I can answer your question with a deal of clarity-for once..;) Top is a Hoffritz Serp Pen, from the 50s I suspect, Sabre ground and sunk-joints, I'd like to get a Custom version done someday but who can manage it?:confused: Glenn re-handled it for me but unfortunately, it has subsequently developed a big crack out of the blue round the centre pin. The bottom knife is a 66 Slim in Red Sawn Bone that I gave to Žan in Slovenia just before Christmas. The 66 Slim is a very nice no rub single spring 2 blade which is the sort I favour over Jacks.

All the best for 17!

Will
Thanks for the knife IDs, Will. Interesting tradition you have regarding spirits for New Year's Eve/Day.

...
Thank you, Gary. How do you like your douk-douk: and is it easy to carry?
Dean, I haven't really put the douk-douk through its paces yet, so the jury is still out. The folded steel handle is similar to the ones on my hignokami and my Mercator Black Cat; in terms of handling comfort, the Black Cat is best of the three (no sense of sharp edges on the handle), followed by the dock-douk (OK), and higonokami (I actually made a small leather grip/cover to pad the sharp edges of the handle as well as to hold it closed in pocket) in that order. When closed, the tang of the Douk-Douk is quite prominent, as is true for many knives, and I don't find that feature to be endearing. With the bail, the knife can hang suspended in my pocket and I don't even notice I'm carrying it. Even without suspending it, the knife is slim and light, so I think it would carry quite nicely.

...
Thanks, Gary! I see what you did there..... ;)

Birthday knives today. Chili tomorrow? Sounds good, count me in. :)

Strong finish for 2016.

Happy New Year to you & yours as well!!!
Thanks, Dee; given your inherent wisdom, I knew you'd catch my little pun there! :p
About the chili: my wife and I spent Christmas Eve with a nephew, his wife, their 2 little kids, and the wife's parents. They had all been ill earlier in the week. This week, between Christmas and New Year's Day, my wife and I seem to have developed whatever the young family had earlier. So no 5-gallon bucket of chili yet! :(

Good grief what an amazing bunch of knives today! This will be my final carry for 2016, my hat is off to you Mark:thumbup:
Happy New Years my friends, wishing all of you the very best in 2017

Closing out the year with one of Mark's finest! Very nice, Drew!

That stag 26 is absolutely, positively praiseworthy!:thumbup: How strong is the pull on that little guy?

Starting off the year with that notable knife makes me think this will be a splendid year for you, Jake!

Here are the knives I bought for my wife to give me for Christmas. Perhaps it's not surprising that it turned out to be a Christmas canoe convocation! :o
Marbles stag bone canoe with "damascus etched" blades:

Straight from the pages of the "Ugliest Traditional" thread, with some good advice for the New Year etched on the pen blade, comes this Rough Rider Zombie Nick canoe:

A Marbles ram's horn canoe; I love the crater in the pile side cover:

A Buck 389 canoe with the relatively-new (and somewhat disappointing dye-wise) honey bone covers:

And a red bone Robert Klaas small canoe:

Looks like you had a canoe kind of Christmas GT . You must have close to 40 by now . I like the 2 Marbles and the Buck the best .

Thanks for your kind words about my Baby Butterbean too. I think it is a pretty well made little knife . It is okay to carry to just have something to cut with. It is a little too small for me to have as an EDC though . With the set , I picked up the following patterns that I never had : Peanut , Wharncliffe Whittler , Copperlock , and Baby Butterbean or Canoe.

I haven't carried it every day, but very frequently....

Thank you Gary, it should be a great year for knives!

Alan, it's a Reese Bose 3.5" modified stockman (wharny and pen, vs the normal sheep and spey). Weather hasn't been too bad lately, there's about 9-10" of snow on the ground and there's thick enough ice to go fishing on Chatauqua Lake tomorrow!!

Weather sounds about right for this time [emoji847]

ALWAYS a BEAUTIFUL knife Jake:thumbup:

Good luck Ice Fishing, I haven't gone yet but should be able to this weekend. I had to mention, I grew up on Chautauqua Blvd in my home town where I still live. About three blocks south of Chautauqua Park where the Sheyenne river runs through the park. Great Walleye and Perch are pulled from the river every summer:thumbup:

Happy New Year, people of the Porch! My resolution is to buy more knives in 2017 than I did in 2016. :D

I had the Winchester stockman with me yesterday and I think I will tote her around again today.

Being that I woke up with my pants still on this morning, I'm still carrying my #99 from yesterday:)
