What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Those are nice covers Gary. Did not know that one came in Ebony.
Thanks, Tim. I don't recall the exact quantity breakdown on covers for this one. It was the 2014 Collaboration knife and I snagged one pretty quick. I believe they made 200 in ebony. I haven't seen many offered in the usual places since.

It's an old-timey looking knife so the ebony seems very much appropriate to me.

So you want a custom Slip joint?
these Makers should be on (at the top) of your list

Bill Ruple - Amber Bone Stag
Romano - Stag Saddlehorn

Those are all definately "list worthy", Todd! They're all wonderful. I'm partial to that Ruple though!

I had forgotten how nice this Laquoile is. I really have to carry it more often.

In fact, I have ordered another laquoile knife, a Laquoile en Aubrac, with horn handle. I should have it in a few days.

I was just away from this thread for two days and had at least a 100 posts to go through! There are a lot of great knives being shown, too!

Today it is my 1970 Case XX model 6308 red bone whittler:

Absolutely gorgeous!

I asked my friend George Wostenholm to pick out a companion for today's adventure and he replied, "Say no more, I'm on top of it".

As you can see from the photo he's pretty old school and from a time where gentleman were taught to say what you mean, and mean what you say.

I truly admire him for his beliefs, ethics, and overall classiness, but this time he may have took it a bit too literally. :p :)

Nice, Dee.

I like the chestnut peach jigged bone more and more on this TC Barlow

That is a fantastic photo of your TC.

This old Boker is one of my very special knives, gifted to me a couple of years back by Paul H, it has a great story behind it, and is just a lovely knife in my opinion.

I'd love to hear the story about that ebony beauty, Jack.

A fiery beauty you have there! Is that a user, Dee?

I'm carrying my cocobolo 66 today (and my everyday Barlow).

A wharncliffe lock back whittler, from one the finest knife makers alive, Joel Chamblin. I had a recent conversation with a well known, high end knife maker who stated that he thought Joel, Bill Ruple, and Richard Rodgers are three of the finest slip joint makers today. Notice that Joel puts the pivot pin for the lock back under the covers, unlike that of Tony's.

stag, gold pins and CTS XHP, think stainless D2

Thanks swaybacksteve, the fly was tied by my good friend, Phil Dobson. He is getting into hard to tie salmon flies, like the Jock Scott. I just ordered him a cape of jungle cock.

Kris, Wonderful Whittler from Joel. I agree he's one of the best, as your source stated. All three of those makers are at the top and have been making wonderful knives for a long time.

I don't throw too much away Dean, and have Paul's letter right here in front of me :) It's Paul story, but I'm sure he won't mind me telling the bare bones of it. In the small town where Paul and Nanc live, there's an old shoe repair shop, which has been in business over 50 years, and run by the same family throughout. As well as repairing shoes and boots, and carrying out all sorts of other repairs, they sell rifles and shotguns, and gear for fishing and archery. They also sell knives, mainly Bucks, and the shop acts as a trading place for ammo, tackle, and knives. Paul saw the old Boker rusting in the display case one day. It had chips in the main blade, and some pitting. He took her home, and cleaned and sharpened her. Then he very kindly sent her to me. Paul reckons 1900, 1907? : When Photobucket allows me to, I'll post a pic with the blades open

Looking good Jake

I was also admiring the fly Kris, and the knife obviously ;)
