Thanks for the additional info on the ruler knife Jack.
There is a name and a date that is marked on one of the sides of the scales. The date is 1896 and the name seems to be Fred Gee.
Is it possible that the knife can be from that age?
Is that on the inside or outside of the scales Ken? Would it be possible for you to post some more pics of the knife? I have several, but they are all different. Most have advertising for other firms on one of the scales, and others have one or more fold-out rules. I wasn't aware that the design went back that far, but both Clarke's and Chesterman's were well-established by that date. There are Ruler Knives in Smith's Key of 1816, but the rules are wooden.
Edit - Just found one in a Army & Navy Stores catalogue from 1907 :thumbup:
