What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

AShearer AShearer , thanks! It is getting some good pocket patina :D
I gave away my muslin micarta, so at present I can't follow you on that journey But, it looks very cool. I like it!

Thinking hard about if I should carry my Office version? I LOVE the ebony speaker and stag whip I have. Rotate them regularly.

My answer will always be Carry It :D

Don't get me wrong, I get collecting. I have a few gifted knives I only carry on very special occasions. The first of something is even tougher to decide, my answer certainly doesn't fit all. If I had 3 different versions I would hesitate to use a first of version. But then I would probably sell it lol. Sorry, not much help today my friend

I like that Vic Sears screwdriver.
For 40 yrs or so I carried a 2-layer SAK, because it was just the most practical and sensible choice. After a lot of looking for the one perfect knife, I think I was right the first time. Fortunately I can carry more than one.
The little screwdriver ( think they call it a quarto driver ) is from my old broken Swiss card light. The sears' are bigger and can handle larger screws or small prying tasks, but the vic is I think a better screwdriver and makes the perfect necklace pendant which is how I wear it everyday.

Greeting,

I have been enjoying this site for quite sometime, figured I would jump in and share my rotations. Seems like a great bunch here. I'm particularly fond of traditional knives.

Kind regards,

Hello and welcome to the Porch as we so fondly refer to it. Your Canal Street Whittler is a beautiful knife. If you are fond of Traditional knives you are in the correct location. You will find the people here are some of the most genuine, caring, and friendly folks around. :) Today I have been Totin this Case Chestnut CV Texas Jack that I liberated from the big auction site. It's in need of a little loving, but you all can recognize its potential. :D

Always king it, D. I like your red bone MJ yesterday as well. I love and have all cover of MJs.

I am carrying my new "Summertime71" today. I ignored this pattern for so long, but I love it now. I think the #71 is such a useful knife - profile, handles, size, blade shape, W&T, & price-point - for a pocket knife. Notice the flush half-stop - so nicely done. Moreover, it is one heck of a slicer; I really like the #71, from GEC.

Thank you!
It really is a great pattern.

Glad you found your way with the 71's.
Their quality & value are undeniable.

Nice Mav, GW.

Thanks Jeff!

OK, I obviously don't understand what's going on with the new website and images!:(
As is often my custom, I ended up with a big post with lots of quotes, so I copied it into a text editor as I've often done to facilitate adding my comments without losing them due to being "timed out" or some other tech disaster. But when I pasted my completed post back into the "reply box", many of the images disappeared. Oh, well, some day I'll figure it out (or I'll die and then it won't really matter :p).

Thanks Gary! I was able to pick this one up on the exchange and I am pleased so far!
Looks like a wonderful deal for you, Ron!

I like that photo, Cory; is that a golf course?? Grass is greening up nicely, but trees are a ways from full foliage yet! What’s that big chunk of knife you have there?

Glad to see we are back up and running.
When I saw your post this morning, I was eating burned toast at breakfast. How’s that for a coincidence, FBC? ;)

View attachment 697913 this was my carry yesterday, but I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to post a pic!
Great knife; glad you figured out what wasn’t working.

Impressive, and obviously useful, pair, Rachel! It would be instructive to me to read a “diary” of all the ways you use your knives over a week or two, because you seem to get a natural patina relatively quickly. Have you discovered a new way of posting photos? I don’t understand a thing about this “ATTACH” stuff that showed up when I quoted your post. Looks like Randy also is posting differently?

Nice TJ, Randy! (And I see that Ron posted a nice one too, while I was composing this post.)

Oh what the heck
Cool photo, as usual, Gev!

Powderhorn Jack was with me today
Andi, so happy to see that you’ve returned! I’m looking forward to seeing some of your marvelous knives, like that toothpick!

Based on the current trend, what's the most boring edc you could possibly think of ?

Probably a red cellador vic recruit right ?

I love the knife and don't think it's boring because it's so useful, but I only ever see people post and compliment pictures of alox models. Something I don't understand as cellador slots for the toothpick and tweezers.

Well, I do like me some Alox, but I have a ton of respect for a Recruit. In a way, it’s the ancestral “mother of all (civilian?) SAKs”, as most other models can be considered evolutionary offspring of the Recruit IMHO.

Thanks Yeah, I did look at one or two others, but it got kind of scary, I could have wound up buying the lot! Here's my two Wright Lambsfoot knives in 'Special Buffalo' shown together to give a size comparison

Wow, what a striking pair, Jack; congrats on your new purchase! That “red buffalo” probably has some “powerful medicine” because I’d think it’s unusual. I still have vague memories of being deeply affected in some kind of spiritual way by an episode of an old TV show called Rin Tin Tin involving a white buffalo!

Fantastically beautiful, Jack. Even more luminous than your other one!

I carried an old friend today.

Great shot of your even greater Ancient, Dean.

But I might disagree with you on your comment about Jack’s knives, depending on what you mean by his “other one”. If you’re referring to his other buffalo lambsfoot (pictured above), I agree with you. But NOTHING glows like his oxhorn!!!

Yowza, Dee, that is a magnificent knife!!

Still the "one". Now let's see if I can upload direct...nope....no idea how to change the file size. Back to photo bucket err

If you figure out direct uploads, I’d sure appreciate learning how to do it! I’m no tech guru, but I’m wondering how this website can “maintain” direct uploads of images, unless it automatically sends them out to the website’s own photo-hosting site, or something. Storing them all here would seem to require too much space, wouldn’t it?

Kind regards,

Welcome to the traditional subforum, Mike! Interesting pic!

For some reason, my rotation schedule (which is in need of a major update) has me carrying a bunch of knives with bails/keyring loops - more than I have attachment points for!

Not at all. I lean towards both. Which is hard to do without falling Some I "preserve" and some I just say, screw it, I like thus guy! I do sell some to buy more! Those, I like to keep pristine. One man's user is another mans's treasure?

Nothin' wrong with a good ol' plastic SAK! After I saw your post I decided that my old Recruit hasn't been out and about for awhile. Thanks for the inspiration.

I can see why you couldn't resist picking that one up. That buffalo horn is sweeeet!
Gary, it's called charred toast and it is a delicacy. ;):D

I like that photo, Cory; is that a golf course?? Grass is greening up nicely, but trees are a ways from full foliage yet! What’s that big chunk of knife you have there?

Thank you, GT. It is a golf course, Geneva National to be exact. I don't get out golfing often, but on Saturday my father-in-law mentioned that he was heading there on Sunday and I told him that it's a really nice course. He got a call a little later saying that their fourth had cancelled and insisted that I join them. We were hosting Easter for my family on Sunday, so it made for an interesting day getting to church, then golfing, then getting home in time to avoid my wife throwing a frying pan at my head.

The knife is the Doc Hagen Lanny's Clip that I won in a Kris (MTDamascus) give away a while back. It has been my most regularly carried knife since I received it, and I'm just in love with it. It's one of a couple knives that I haven't ever gotten over being gifted. It is also the knife that has steered me away from collecting a large pile of production knives and towards acquiring a small selection of custom knives.

Beautiful Caramel horn Jack.

Thanks a lot Ted, I'll have to take a pic of the pile side :)

I have one of those in my wallet, find it a useful tool :)

Welcome to The Porch Mike :)

Still trying to adapt to the forum, slow but sure;)

Wow, your new fixed-blade is beautiful :)

Jack, that one is incredible!

Thank you very much Barrett :)
