What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

You have some superb fixed-blades my friend

Thanks so much Jack; fixed blades are my favorite. The 5-6 is really an excellent knife, and was my favorite for general use until the Kephart came along. I have others too, but they don't belong in the traditional subform.

Just slipped the Davison into my pocket again... I tried to give it a break--but it calls to me!

A barefoot boy! I mark him at his play—
For May is here once more, and so is he,—
His dusty trousers, rolled half to the knee,
And his bare ankles grimy, too, as they:
Cross-hatchings of the nettle, in array
Of feverish stripes, hint vividly to me
Of woody pathways winding endlessly
Along the creek, where even yesterday
He plunged his shrinking body—gasped and shook—
Yet called the water "warm," with never lack
Of joy. And so, half enviously I look
Upon this graceless barefoot and his track,—
His toe stubbed—ay, his big toe-nail knocked back
Like unto the clasp of an old pocketbook.
James Whitcomb Riley

Thank you, Jack.
I like to carry two complementary knives. One for harder work, and one for delicate tasks. A Beauty and the Beast, if you will. ;)

I thought of just the same phrase :) In a good way of course :)

Glad to. It is a custom that Joe Allen made for me. Just a smidge bigger in all dimensions than my case peanuts. The tiniest bit thicker and maybe a quarter inch longer closed. It is covered in smooth mammoth with really great features and color. It is easily one of my favorites and I like it more every time I pick it up.
Thanks for the additional info. Congrats on a fantastic little jack!

I'm running late tonight. There have been a lot of great knives posted today, it took me a while to catch up! I have been toting a Black Box Winchester stockman today.

That's pretty much the Platonic ideal for a jack knife, Ron!:eek::thumbsup:

Gary, happy to give you some tips. Get your dandelion fork sharpened up.
...
Sounds good; fork seems A-OK. :D

Thanks, GT. You've managed to notice the full extent of my A. Wright collection. I've had both the Ettrick and the ebony lambsfoot for quite a while—the Ettrick accompanied my buffalo horn lambsfoot across the pond—but they don't see as much use as my buffalo horn lambsfoot. I figured they both deserved a bit of time in the sunshine. :)
Thanks for the follow-up, Greg. That's a terrific trio pf British blades!

Utica trapper getting ready to "make hay while the sun shines"???;)

As for the Kephart, yes, I'm very fond of it. I have a Gunfighter Bowie too (by Lon Humphrey); I generally prefer fixed blades to folders. Laws and social norms being what they are, however, having even a modest fixed blade with me all the time is just not an option--good thing there are fine folders to have and hold! I'm particularly fond of bowies/ clip points... I've posted these pics before, but here are a few (traditional) that I absolutely love:

Lon is making a smaller version of the Gunfighter (in 52100 I believe)--I will certainly be picking up one of those. It will be tough choosing between that and the Kephart for day hikes... but those kinds of tough choices are blessings :D

That Mora may become your gateway drug!
Man, you carry some "Big Iron", Anthony!:eek::thumbsup::D
I suppose it's possible that the Mora would push me over the "fixed blade precipice", but I like to pretend I have more self-control than that!:p

...
Sorry the images got lost GT, but I can picture both of your knives anyway :)
...
Thanks, Jack. I could have re-inserted those 2 pics, but by that time, I'd invested far more time into the undertaking than I could really afford relative to the rest of my life commitments! ;)

Carrying these two today, my A.Wright Lambsfoot in ebony, and the Schrade-Wostenholm NKCA Gunboat SP kindly gifted me a while back :)

That pair looks unpretentious, yet effective!:cool:

Good morning, everyone.

It's Walden and Winchester Wednesday.
Nice black and white beast and beauty, r8shell!

Speaking of beast and beauty, that's a study in contrasts, Dee!

Nice pair Dee.

Cool pic, TIm! I have that song, but only on cassette tape, I think; did that really come out 50 years ago??!!?:confused:

Some brand new green ALOX today.

Congrats on the spring green Alox, Tom! Pioneer or Farmer?

Congrats, Buzz!:cool: Hard to resist the symmetry of an equal-end pattern, or the allure of an animal shield! ;)

Been a long time since I have posted here, so many cool knives! This is pretty new to me.. Lloyd in stacked leather. Lannys are quickly becoming my favorites. Have a great day!
