What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Have never owned a Colonel Coon barlow before so I acquired a quite bright yellowish orange smooth bone version.

Centered blade, no play and very good f&f:cool::thumbsup:

Of course, I just had to carry my newly modded Craftsman Barlow today!

And to think all those trips to Sears as a kid with Dad what I was missing.:(

This one is for GT... you wanted to see what Michael Morris made of my father-in-law's old rusty Nicholson file; it was given to me after long use. Since my son loves to hike and camp, I thought it would be great if he had something of his grandfather's with him as he enjoyed the outdoors. Since his grandpa was a scout and outdoorsman (back in his youth, in his own country), a solid knife would be great. So with my father-in-law's blessing, I contacted Michael and he made me a knife. He did great work.

Aias, that's incredibly thoughtful, and a beautiful knife as well. What sort of steel are files made from typically? I know I've never worn out a file, so must be pretty tough, like D2 or O1?

Two in Sambar stag today, T.K. Steingass New Orleans Special with a sheath that David Seward made for me, along with a Zulu from Johnny Stout

MTD, a truly stunning work of art!

Today's carry.

Dean, does this mean you have secretly acquired Chuck Barris' '60s classic...:p

(Of course, the TC Barlow looks great too.)

Lovely blademan. What is the vintage of your knife?

Jack Blacks Lamb's Foot cooked and helped me consume supper.

Aged beef, salted and peppered, cooked over charcoal and pecan then seared on the griddle. Maybe the best steak I've ever had.

Red Taters roasted in avocado oil, salt, jalapeno pepper, and red pepper. Awesome.

Woodrow, I agree a hot pan and a good steak make for a great meal. I have converted more than a few to pan-fried meat, but will have to try your hybrid method. Thanks!

As always so many more to drool over today! (Knives, not Woodrow's steak:D). Finishing off 1 week with the CC Barlow. As I had mentioned this steel, which I presume to be 1095, takes on a patina like nobody's business. You can clearly see how much has formed after only 2 meals, with quick cleanups after. Really nice knife, you can also see some of the bone's translucency.

Thanks Bugdoc! Hard to tell, but my quick searches suggest either 1095 or 1084... I think the older ones were 1095, and this one was certainly older. Michael likely knows--I'll have to shoot him an email. My father-in-law restored antiques and was a craftsman/ artist (now retired); he actually made the frame for the official presidential portrait of George W. Bush.

BTW, what a great barlow! Love the bolster and the match strike long pull.

Had these in my pockets yesterday and today.

Swanky pair, Harry!

Congrats, Shawn & Brett! The covers on your knives are incredible! The Glennbad Legend just keeps growing!

Thanks Gary. You're too kind.
That's a nice lookin EO you posted! Nothing wrong with your photos either sir.
Thanks for the encouragement, Gary. What will you use as background for your photos when the weather gets too warm for your white leather gloves? ;)

Thanks Gary, happy to see that #85 getting pocket time:thumbsup:
Paul, when I update my carry schedule, hopefully next week, I'll make sure that I have a stag or horn knife in my pocket every week. I don't have many, but I like them all, including the 85, so they'll each end up getting carried more often in my new plan.

Thanks, Anthony; that's really cool!! Fantastic series of photos of the process!

...
Muchas gracias mi amigo! :D  Sadly, I think Joker has stopped making those knives (mine is the small one). That's a good-looking 85 :)
...
Just this one for me today

...
Thanks, Jack. Sorry to hear that Joker doesn't make that model any more; I think the same is true of the Aitor model Gev posted recently. I appreciate the sentiment behind your carry for today!

Thanks guys. I had in mind when I posted that it was my first non-SAK slipjoint, but then I remembered another that I no longer own. Oops. But, it was the first slipjoint that I really bonded with, that I modified to be just how I wanted it, and that entrenched my fascination with traditional pocketknives. So, it's still fair to say that it was the one that got me started. ;)
Thanks for "the rest of the story", Greg.

Thanks Jack. Didn't stick around for long though as the hills were calling.

Great photo, donn!:thumbsup: This former farm boy who has spent his entire adult life in cities couldn't stop looking at the landscape! ;)

I tried to do a multi quote twice with thoughtful replies to all this fine posts and thank those who made kind comments. The code keeps getting messed up and now I shut down the browser and the whole post is gone ! I'm not trying again...Thank you all anyway!
Sorry to hear about the tech glitch, Gev. :( But someone with your signature line certainly recognizes that "it's the thought that counts." :D

Impressive photos, Gev! I was glad to see that Catt again, but you sure have some weird and wonderful critters down in your neck of the woods!

Today's carry.

Holy Jigged Bone, Batman!! Terrific Covers on that TC, Dean!:cool:

duna duna duna duna BARLOW!!! :D

Music to my ears! :D:D

These two in my right front pocket today.

It's not a scout pattern, but I like everything about that BSK, Tom!

That red looks fantastic on the bricks, Bob!
Hey there's a car race at the Brickyard this weekend, too; very timely pic! ;)

Compelling knife, Dee! What does that knife feel like? Does it feel as "textured" as it looks?

Unscheduled knife is really very funny Gary.
Glad I could amuse you, Alan. :)
Of course, I take my rotation schedule VERY seriously!;)

That's a fine unscheduled knife there. I thought I'd switch out knives this week, but so far I've been sticking with the Ettrick. (Thanks, Greg)
It's been a good spring for veggie gardens, hasn't it?

Thanks, r8shell. Your Ettrick is intriguing.

Rosie got a little stroppin' today.
I'm not an AC/DC fan, but that's a "Whole Lotta Rosie" there, FBC!;)

A couple of more knives for me this week include a MAM Iberica and a Colonial electrician:

I haven't visited this thread in a while, I find that if I miss a day I get intimidated by the sheer number of posts I have to catch up on - I hate missing out - then in the end I simply accept that I don't have the time and skip to the most recent page, as I have done today.

Paul, stunning colour on that C'Coon!

I have an unassuming relatively recent addition. Thanks Steve, and by the way I agree with you, I cannot find any reason why this was marked as a second?!

Congress is in session ;) John Primble stepped bolstered Congress pattern, most every day in my watch pocket

Once we get moved, I think I'll try my hand at making a sheath like the one Dave Ferry aka Horsewright showed in this Thread here looks like a neat way to carry a lot of different shaped folders.

Thanks for the encouragement, Gary. What will you use as background for your photos when the weather gets too warm for your white leather gloves? ;)
Those are just a pair of leather work gloves I use when I'm filling my bird feeders. They get used year round. They make a good background because the knives can be easily positioned to take advantage of the lighting.

Don't know if I'll have time to make a "proper post" here tonight or tomorrow, but I wanted to show an "unscheduled" knife I have today, inspired by Half/Stop and Jack Black in support of the victims of the atrocities in Manchester. I won this knife in a GAW a couple of years ago, sponsored by R.c.s., who's a Manchester resident.

Seriously though, Thanks for the kind words, Jack. I really like the long swedges on that pen knife.

Yeah, it's a real shame, both are great knives in my opinion  Thanks my friend :)

That's a looker Paul

I always enjoy seeing that pic Gary

Here's me today

Nice little knife, Jack. Looks like an appropriate carry. Does the tang stamp say Manchester? Sending thoughts and prayers for the good people in the UK.

A Study in Micarta for me today. I was looking through the 2017 BF knife thread and it prompted me to carry these today. I think the 2017 Natural Micarta TC Barlow will look good in the group.

Ive had an interest in Colonel Coon since learning they originated in my home state, Tennessee. The bone color certainly fits the TN Volunteers well. Is yours a Queen made or an original TN production?
