What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I bet this one has a lot of stories to tell. If it won't take us too far off topic, what's a "gift knife"?

I reckon it probably has Greg :) The knife is from WW1, and there was/is a long-running controversy in some circles as to whether it was an issued pattern (the 8173-1914 pattern) or sent to troops as a gift knife in Red Cross parcels. There are some interesting discussions, (and some rather less interesting), posted on the internet. You'll miss some of the most heated debates due to the lack of British Blades though ;) Here's another similar WW1 knife, made by Camillus if I recollect correctly, with the Keen Kutter mark, for Canadian troops

Pleasant pair, Tom!:thumbsup: I like seeing that scout with the French Ivory (Coast ;)) covers.

GT I give in, your pics of the Case sodbuster have prompted me to buy one :)

(@Charlie Mike) Matt makes a killer blade with awesome grinds, your's came out fantastic. I'm surprised he didn't put a sharpening choil on it. I'm guessing because the blade was short enough already.

Thanks Ted, and agreed Matt hit this out of the park. He is great to work with, too. I didn't ask for a sharpening choil but this one doesn't need it either. Can't recommend his work enough. I sharpened it for the first time yestereday after a very heavy week or so of use and it took a fantastic edge. It excelled at lunch making duty today :).

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, enjoy your Sunday :) I'm sticking with this Joseph Allen WW1 'Gift Knife' today, and an older Lambsfoot by Alfred Blackwell

The striking steel in the pic was forged at the old water-powered scythe works at Abbeydale in Sheffield, and now resides with one of @herder's lads :)

Great pics Jack, especially the Gift Knife, fantastic

The Case Sodbuster Jr is one of their best patterns and scale/cover combos, they thinned them down in profile and with them bein' less chunky I find myself throwin' it in my pocket more often these days because it just works. Add a Swayback jack and you have a unbeatable pair or traditional blades.

Here's a quick pic I just took of my pair, I have to work on my dryer today so I think I'll throw them in my pocket in case I need to strip some wire or something, :)

ETA, I changed the pic out for one in better focus.

Drew, TheFactor, Travman, & The Fort, those knives with the arrowhead shield, whether called Scagel or Northwoods, are some superior single-bladed knives!!!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Hey GT , if you can believe it I've actually use the tiny imperial 3 times today.
The first being to open a pack of crackers and the last to open some cookies.

BTW this is definitely more blades than I'd normally carry, but I didn't want to drop the sodbuster or 110 which I'm carrying to finish out my July knife challenge.
Next week will just be the camo classic and my pocket pal ( the tiny imperial is gonna be a constant so I've always some carbon steel on me )
Way to go, Tyler!:cool: Usually for me, the more I use a knife, the better I like it, so I'm glad you're finding ways to use that miniature Imperial already!:thumbsup:

Really love the CV blade, I can re-start a patina whenever I want if not happy with what it turns out.

Classic Case stockman, Falling_rain!:thumbsup: Almost every feature is totally choice!

Thanks GT ! I think they are celluloid but not positive .
Thanks for the additional info, Steve. :)

One of my favorite TC's today:thumbsup:

Easy to see why a sheep/pen TC Barlow with sawcut covers is one of your favorites, Paul!!:thumbsup:

Thanks pal, nice to see those two together, they look to be almost identical in size

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, enjoy your Sunday :) I'm sticking with this Joseph Allen WW1 'Gift Knife' today, and an older Lambsfoot by Alfred Blackwell

Thanks for the sodbuster compliment, Jack. Although I think of myself as a proponent of multi-blade folders, I've gradually acquired several sodbuster patterns that are more than satisfactory!:thumbsup: The blade's the thing for me, I think! :)
You're starting off the week with a couple of aged aces!!:thumbsup:

Thanks 5K. The hills in the distance are an area known as 'The Forest of Bowland' and make up some of England's high moorlands. It's hardly wilderness though; surrounded by excellent farming country  and within an easy cycle of several large towns.

Thanks for the additional geographic info, donn. That's a capital German sodbuster; the pattern is an international favorite, it seems! ;)

Thanks Gary! We're enjoying a week at the house of friends from my wifes family, wish the view from our own backyard was like this :)

Today it's the 66 again:

I always find it hard to avoid my own reflection in the bolsters of the knife, especially when shooting on my phone because it's hard to see on the screen with the sunlight. But this time I managed not only to capture myself, but also my brother in law who takes a picture of the silly guy that takes pictures of his knives
Mark
I've abandoned all hope that I'll take reflection-free knife photos, Mark. :( I think that's an admirable shot of your Calf Roper!:thumbsup: (Are you claiming that your brother-in-law is that colorful worm creature??:confused::confused::D)

Camillus #51 today.

Yet another iconic knife, Steve!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Sticking these into my pocket and heading to Chicago area .

Harry, don't let any big city boys talk you out of your stellar stag!!;)

A lot of us have been posting some persuasive pics of Case SBJrs lately, Tom; I don't think you'll regret your decision to get one!!:cool::thumbsup: What covers and steel are you planning to order?

Point taken and I agree...

Exquisite, Atiger!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I hope you post them in the Notable Pairs thread, too, because they certainly are all that!!

Trying to decide what knives to take when we go on vacation starting next Saturday. To help me get in the mood, I looked at some of my pics from the past couple of years. Here are some favorites:

Thanks! I did not make it, actually. The stamp on the back reads:
A&M
Leatherworks
Texas

I picked it out of the Rolling GAW box in Round 9. I definitely needed something with a bail on it to get it out of the sheath, and I hadn't carried my TL-29 in while. Seemed like a no-brainer.

I wish I liked to fish, I'd take out the Kabar Fish Knife, it's a perfect day for it.

Instead I'm stuck inside workin' on my stupid dryer. I have the three over temperature sensors out and testing them on the electric skillet, open at 280* and closed at ambient temp> + or - 5% of 280* and I'm using this 80s Case Camper.

@Peregrin
Gary, is that Ohta new? It's rather unusual. Almost tear drop but not quite with a simple drop point blade. The stag goes without saying. As per for Mr. Ohta, magnificent.

Totin this one today, doing some yard work before the 108 degrees coming up. Still can't quite believe that forecast in the Portland OR area!!

Paul I love that TC my friend! I understand exactly how it could be a favorite!

How could you forget such a stunning piece? I'd be fondling it all day if I had it, kinda like I do with this R Cover Sr. Drop Point. :)
