What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I really need to sit down for an hour and catch up on this thread.. so much eye candy!

My 77 Blackwood Barlow finally got a brother. Been looking for one of these for a long while. Happy Day =)

Thanks for the Douk-Douk comment. I think the blade etch is standard, and your conjecture about it disappearing with use is probably correct; I haven't used my Douk-Douk much at all. (Who am I kidding? I barely use ANY of my knives. :() Here's a pic you requested:

That's really cool GT. I see not a trace of it on mine. I tend to use my knives, but there's definitely something to say for keeping them in the pocket.:thumbsup:

Very nice picture Drew and I know that it is a very nice knife that many people wished they had bought too .
I am glad that you were able to find one my friend .

Harry

GW101, I'm mesmerized by those scales! Mammoth ivory, correct? Simply beautiful.

On the bright side, 15° CCW and that crew would have had some very angry homeowners in need of a new roof.:eek::D

Playing around with editing on a rainy day at work.

S3, that's a very nice photo of your well-used Barlow.:thumbsup:

Based on the pin placement in the handle of this knife, I'm not sure that it is a real Russell, but it's old and it's a Barlow, so it is in my pocket.

Stuart, I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will comment on the vintage. Those are some roughhewn scales. It's a nice fit with that pattern.:thumbsup:

That's a great patina coming up there.

@Kitten Party , congrats man. Going on 30 years of (for the most part;)) bliss with my wife. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

Tom Whetstone39 Whetstone39 , busy week coming up but I'll try to get those pics off to you this weekend. Thanks in advance.

I sometimes find I lose quoted posts too GT :rolleyes:

Cool pic of your Douk-Douk, have you seen the video of them being made?

I wish my kids were as forgiving of my sense of humour as you are my friend :) I'm afraid my cultural references get more obscure by the year! :D :thumbsup:

Thanks for your compliment on my knives from yesterday GT, and I hope you and your daughter enjoyed your hike in spite of the claustrophobic environment :) The photos I posted yesterday were taken from one of the gritstone edges cut out by melting glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age. They run north to south down the edge of the Peak District National Park, some of which falls with the Sheffield city boundary, and are a popular haunt of rock-climbers, as well as hikers. People lived on that edge back in Mesolithic times, and there is a stone circle from that period there. Judging by the state of the path, the stone circle doesn't get many visitors these days. In fact, because of the high bracken, which covers most of the stones, it took me a while to find it myself yesterday :)

Nice to see that you're still able to get some use out of that old Stockman :) Glad the knife rests came in handy for something too! :D :thumbsup:
Thanks for the kind and informative comments, Jack!! :thumbsup:
You certainly know a lot more about the history of the area through which you hiked than I know about where I followed a trail!
I don't think I've seen the Douk-Douk manufacturing video; I'll have to look for that.
I've really had few problems with the new BF system, but my "multiquote list" seems to expire or reset after a certain, but unknown to me, amount of time.

Nice picture of your hike, Jack!
Starting the week with my trusty Boker.

Zesty knife, Mark! :thumbsup::cool: Those Böker Barlows seem to be the latest model that's infected me with "see those everywhere, got to get one" fever. :rolleyes:

Thanks GT! It was a little odd not having a fixed blade on my person, haven't done that for quite a while.
Cool carries, and a great idea for practicing your new sharpening system (a KME right?). What is the fob on the #8, it almost looks like bone or maybe antler?

I went with a theme today, M390 and carbon fiber.

Thanks, Tom. That Opinel #8 does indeed have an antler bead on the fob. My new sharpener is the DMT Aligner with the diafold hones; KME is a bit pricey for a champion of Rough Riders like I am! :rolleyes:;) Terrific theme picture you posted! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I woke up to a bit of a rainy day here in Dallas...but this one always brings more sunshine to any morning.

Yowza!! :eek: That's a winner of a spearpoint blade you have there, J_Curd!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, GT. Love the Opinels!
Thanks, Stuart. :)

Belated congrats, KP!! :thumbsup::cool: Hope the nuptials were noteworthy and that you have a magnificent marriage! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Impressive, Dee; those covers remind me of a book I have in my office: The Fractal Geometry of Nature, by Benoit Mandelbrot. :thumbsup::cool::D

Am carrying this Left Handed 73 that I got from Half Stop Ron at the Rendezvous , and we run into these tree trimmers in Holland , Michigan who were having a VERRRRRRY BAD day

Intriguing 73, Harry; congrats! :thumbsup::thumbsup: Nightmarish situation for the tree trimmers! :eek::(

Fantastic foto, Erik! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

ell they're all carbon steel, and they're all clip point, but mostly they're all made by imperial in prov.RI.
Cool; I only noticed the carbon steel commonality. :(

Stupendous stockman, Mike! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Imposing jigging, Phixt!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

That's very cool, deltaboy! :cool::thumbsup::cool: I have a red jigged bone model like that, but I like your shield better than my standard RR circle shield. I think black mamba calls that pattern a "Eureka stockman".

My 77 Blackwood Barlow finally got a brother. Been looking for one of these for a long while. Happy Day =)

Congrats, Drew; that blood red 77 Barlow is worth waiting for!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: (Gonna edit your signature with a new WTB, or are you after more of these??)

That's really cool GT. I see not a trace of it on mine. I tend to use my knives, but there's definitely something to say for keeping them in the pocket.:thumbsup:
Thanks, Tom. I wish I had more opportunities to use my knives, but other than ones I use for food prep or for infrequent whittling, my lifestyle just doesn't seem to require much pocket knife use. :rolleyes:

That's a top-notch 26, Travman! :thumbsup::cool: Lots of 25s are posted, but there seem to be far fewer 26s that show up; I like the 26s much better I think, just based on what I see in photos.

Superb Böker pen knife, Rachel, and the new Barlow is certainly different! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

These two today, Happy Tuesday :)

Wow, Tom, did you get one of each cover on the Lionsteels!?! :cool::thumbsup:

Carrying the Ibberson Burma Knife Charlie gifted me recently :thumbsup:

Historic (and heavy, I'll bet! ;))! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I mentioned that I have my entire Case chestnut jigged bone CV family with me on vacation this week and last. Here they are catching some rays, and protecting their exposed blades in the shade. :D

I'm really enjoying all these pics of the euro barlows.
Thanks GT! That swayback always gets my attention.
Rachel, that's a really neat Boker.

The 77 has been getting all the credit lately while this guy just humbly rests on my hip.

I felt like I should show him off for a change.(but rest assured, the 77 is tucked snuggly in my pocket)
