What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Headed to work tonight. #2 of 4 this set of dogs. Sharpened all my fixies last night.

All the recent Schrade talk inspired me to get out my father's 885UH stockman. I gave the blades a quick touch-up and lubrication and slipped it in my pocket for a nature hike this afternoon. I had given it to him sometime in the 90s after he lost the knife that he had carried for a long time. (I really don't know how long, maybe back to high school or the Navy.) When I inherited it the tip of the clip blade was bent and the sheepsfoot had a couple of gouges so I peened out the tip and put it in its original box for safekeeping. I've often thought about carrying it and I decided that today was the day to do that. (My father was a pretty good self-taught carpenter, mechanic, plumber, and electrician, but he wasn't above using the wrong tool for the wrong job from time to time. ;) )

Been hunting for a Hawthorne to bond with, have always loved the look but none have really clicked till this one from the first run. Textured mammoth and strong walk and talk, had to add it to the pocket with the TC. Happy Sunday all!

That's a great pairing Drew! The TC speaks for itself but that Hawthorne is a jewel. I love the 48 frame but to me the bare end is what's special on that run of the Hawthorne. Congratulations! :thumbsup:

With so few options for a man to play with a suit, this is an awesome play. I’d show mine, but it’s not as forum friendly. Well payed, Professor.
Thanks, HST! :) I don't wear a tie often (probably fewer than 50 times per year), but I'm always on the lookout for "meaningful" tie bars. I'd like to get a nice baseball-related one, and I really drool over the working slide-rule tie clasps! :eek::thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup::D

Schrade/Stag-urday? OK.

Stellar stag, Stuart! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

5K Qs 5K Qs GT, I carry trappers as a bird/small game hunting/fishing knife, so it will usually be in a big coat/pant pocket or pack. they aren't petite. As to the Case Pattern 30, I appreciate your inquiry, as it caused me to go back and look at my description. The Case Pattern 30 is an equal end pen and the spey blade on mine rules that out (although it has the size and handle/bolster shape of the 30). I should have caught that when I was cataloging my knife. My knife seems to fall through the spaces of the research materials that I have consulted following your comment, but the closest that I can pin it is an early variation of the long-discontinued Pattern 53, which would make it an equal end cattleman's knife (though most of those appear to have been 3-bladed knives). I haven't found a picture of a Pattern 53 cattleman. I may need a B. Levine consultation.

Interesting info about your knife, Stuart! :cool::cool: Thanks for looking into it! :thumbsup: I'm a avid fan of canoe patterns (not much blade variation among canoes, though), and also drawn to equal-end patterns, so your knife really caught my eye! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I guess you could call it a DUKE DUKE, because it was made from an all American stockman after all.
I like that name a lot!! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Thank you, Gary, for you compliment on my TC

I find the Case yellow pen (in CV) to be an essential knife around the house, too!

Your tie and clip show you to be a man of distinction and discernment (and a knife knut)!
Thanks for the kind words, Dean! :thumbsup::p I seem to have you fooled!! ;);)

For Schrade Saturday

Very cool, Steve!! :D:thumbsup::cool::cool: The "spinnability" of a knife definitely adds to its quality! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Did someone say Schrade Saturday? I had mySC505 out yesterday, so today I'm spending some time with my little 807UH (USA-made). I bought this one used and the edges were terrible. Every so often I get it out to work on it a bit, taking it slow because there's not a lot of metal there to work with! It's slicing pretty well now, though.

Nice one A R. I bought this Uncle Henry in 1970, (The one in the middle), & carried it every day for almost 30 years. It was the first knife that I paid over $10 for. As you can see, the main blade is worn down pretty good & the secondary blades are about the same.

Ace & Ironbut, those old Staglon Uncle Henrys are classics!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Very cool, Gev!! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Is that the main blade that's lived such a rich, full life??

Literally pocket jewelry, Tom!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

It's a big Teardrop and I don't carry it so much, but time to give it an outing on a cold 7c grey autumn morning, it brightens things!:cool:

Very desirable teardrop, Will!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
I'm carrying these two today :) Have a good Sunday everyone :thumbsup:

Something old, something new, both look marvelous, Jack! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the kind words my friend :) I like your 'Constants', they are all quite different, each special in their own way, and I think you have everything covered with them in terms of versatility :) :thumbsup:
Thanks, Jack, you articulated much of the charm that trio has for me!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Wondrous whittler for the win, Bob!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
Thank you, GT. I've always admired mother of pearl's iridescence, but I fear I'll drop and crack it. On the other hand, life is too short not to enjoy something while you have it. Besides, I got it for a great price. ;)

Almost forgot. Today's carry:View attachment 773709
:thumbsup::D:D
Nice Case! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: Are there initials on the shield?

...
Occasionally, I'll look at all the knives that I've accumulated in just the last 15 years & all the money I spent on them, and think, "What the hell!" It's nice to have choices though.:)
I can relate, Ironbut!! :eek::p

That tiny script "Cattaraugas" is one of my favorite bolster stamps, Rob!! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:

My newest favorite with some pile side beauty.

Stunning stag 83, Alan! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, GT. I like your selections for the day, particularly that glowing Sodbuster.

Thanks, Stuart! :) I like that trio so much that I ALWAYS carry them in addition to whatever knives I rotate through on a weekly basis.

Jigged wood, Jak?? :confused::cool::cool:

Thanks GT! :)

I worked 12 hours last night so I'm just now moving around today. This Queen City Copperhead is in my pocket. :D

12 hours on a Saturday night seems less than ideal, Ron, but that copperhead should ease the pain a bit!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

No worries GT. I recognize it now.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yowza, that's a killer canoe, Tom! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Been intending to add one of these to the collection for awhile...

Congrats, Wayne!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A 2013 Eureka Jack in antique green bone;) Thanks Barry:thumbsup:

That spear/coping Eureka is fantastic, Paul!! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:

Another commendable Barlow, Steve! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::cool:

Used this Imperial (that I dearly love) to fix breakfast, lunch, and supper today; rather than finding separate storage for this MOTS celluloid knife, I just leave it on the kitchen counter at all times! :rolleyes:
