What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Old no. 10 Camillus barlow...

This trapper was my first Rough Rider. I bought it because I wanted to check out the brand and of the limited selection in our local store it had the most appeal to me, although I wasn't sure I'd like this pattern. Well, I do like it, although I find it a bit large. (cc: 5K Qs 5K Qs ) I've since found the mini trapper more to my liking with regard to size and, like Tony Bose (shameless name dropping), I prefer the Wharncliffe version.

Anyway... I recently found a couple of leather slip cases that I made several years ago out of scraps, one that is about right for a medium stockman or mini trapper, and one that fits the RR trapper as well as a full-size stockman. I tried the RR trapper in the slip case today and it works much better for carrying. I can easily stand it up vertically in a hip pocket and the leather keeps it from slipping into the horizontal position. I'll definitely be carrying it more often.

I don't know that I have seen an Ancient dressed up in wood before, is that Ebony or some form of Rosewood? Regardless, it simply makes an already beautiful knife that much better.

I am carrying the same two knives today as I did yesterday. This time though, I flipped Linus over to show off his "dark" side. Should look more like ebony this time around. ;)

Thank you, Padruig. It is indeed ebony and a beautiful brown example. There were three standard covers for the Ancients: ebony, smooth parchment bone and scratted parchment bone (there were also 10 soup bone made). I think the ebony is the most beautiful, but I carry my scratted Ancient the most.

You have some lovely ebony examples yourself.:thumbsup:

Always great to see your Ancient Barlow Dean

Thank you, Jack!

Oh my, so very exquisite, Dee!!

Number 10 is in my pocket and "cutting up" today.

Baseball playoffs start tonight with the Yankees/Twins wildcard game at Yankee Stadium. Not that I'm superstitious or anything.....I'm carrying my pattern 99 Wall St. Stag in honor of #99 Aaron Judge and wearing the #7 pin for my favorite player, Mickey Mantle.

I'd love to pull for your Bombers, Alan, but... I mean... You gave me the hat after all! :p:D

I remember. I'm hoping it takes more than a magic hat. One game, win or go home. Should be exciting.

That Ebony has such an exquisite luster, I love it! A very fine choice.

Thanks a lot Dylan! That is a great photo and a terrific pair of knives!
I decided to give this Case Coffin Jack some time in the pocket today! :D

Finally found a place to get some Oak to start making my next project . Finished the sample end in Pine last week . Have had these 2 in my pockets all day .

Some previous owner got a little happy with a grinder on this Case that I picked up 10 days ago , but I got a heck of a deal on it .

Heading out early in the morning, but I'll have these two with me

I hope your trip went well, Jack; you have some fine fellow travelers with you!! ;):thumbsup::cool:

...
I've still got my #35 Drover in my pocket. The extra-pointy punch on this knife is handy for all sorts of things. :D
...
Barrett, you should make a list of all the things the puck is handy for and post it in the "Did your traditional get a workout?" thread.:cool::thumbsup:;)

A custom and a SAK farmer, happy Monday all :).

Good to see your brilliant Farmer again, Tom!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Perfect, when we talk Wayne into parting with these two we won't have to fight over who gets which knife :D
Sounds like a plan, Rob. :D:thumbsup:

I have an exemplary instructor GT. Like that Diamond Jim RR. A lot.
Thanks, Tom. :) Here's the other side of it; still like it as much with the "unmatched" covers?

5K Qs 5K Qs I understand and appreciate your trapper view; I just felt bad for posting one right after you had explained it. And I appreciate getting to see the RR knives, of which I was unaware. I didn't need another knife to chase, but . . As to the NKCA canoe, I took the bone description from the NKCA. I don't see it myself; it must be green dyed bone, as opposed to the greenish bone that Case and others used early on. It is DEEP green:

Thank you sir, nice to see your Gunboat :)

Seeing the NKCA description of that gunboat canoe is cool, Stuart!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks, Jack. IIRC, you have one of these, too, don't you?:cool::thumbsup:

Love the blades on that baby copperhead GT, not huge on the copperhead pattern but the s knife sure does look nice in your picture.
those blades would certainly look great on an equal end pen pattern.
Thanks, H&S. :) That's one of my favorites among photos I've taken, and one of my luckiest shots!

Case XX 1940-1964 Jack 6232

That's an enthralling old Case, Falling_rain!!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Stunning stag, Randy!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks GT, It's a small Texas Jack
Thanks for the confirmation, Steve. Are you familiar with the TJ Cult? https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...should-the-peanuts-get-all-the-glory.1150235/

Thanks, GT! You have it mostly right, you are actually looking at both knives dressed up in Ebony. Ol' Linus there has an interesting mark side cover... And your guess is as good as mine in regards to the weathered backdrop, I just find it to be a reasonably decent place to photograph knives on when the outdoor lighting is good. Fine selection of knives, by the way, lots of nice color in the different covers you are sporting.

I am carrying the same two knives today as I did yesterday. This time though, I flipped Linus over to show off his "dark" side. Should look more like ebony this time around. ;)

Very interesting, Dylan. That Linus is a tricky one! :D:D

I have been totin' the MAM for the last couple days. I will switch it up today but haven't decided yet. Maybe I will put on some cargo pants and go all 5K Qs 5K Qs ;):D

I always enjoy seeing that toasted MAM, FBC!:cool::thumbsup: I should probably divulge that I've evolved beyond cargo pants (and suspenders) to a fanny pack so that I can quickly remove all my knives when I visit local schools. :D:thumbsup::rolleyes:

Monday's carry.

Another warm day in my neck of the woods, and Dean, Steve, and Wayne just keep on posting more HOT Barlows!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for sharing your experiences with using pocket slips with the big trapper, Ace; I'll have to keep that in mind!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Looks like you've done everything you can to bring about a Yankees win, Alan.:thumbsup::cool:

Whoa, Shawn has a good point!! ;):cool:
Enjoy the game, guys! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

My Euro Knife of the Week (and also my stag/horn knife for this week) is a Joker horn knife that my daughter bought for me in Spain:

My Big Knife of the Week (that could also have served as a Euro knife, or a non-SAK bailed knife) is a Mercator Black Cat:

Carrying the Schatt & Morgan F&W Swayback Clasp Knife today. I usually carry GEC's but I wanted to give Queen another try. This was a recent acquisition, it is pretty large at 4 1/4" closed but, I am really pleased with this knife overall. The ATS-34 blade steel is one of my favorites on slipjoints.

That’s a sweet knife!

You would probably need suspenders too. :D:D:D

Now, I feel un-evolved :D I am pleasantly surprised about how tough that charred finish is. The MAM gets rattled around with change, key chain and whatever else is in my pocket at least a couple times a week. Still makes me kind of chuckle to myself that it is probably my most inexpensive knife and my most carried.
I couldn't find the cargo pants and I don't own suspenders ... yet, so I just went with the Winchester whittler. :D
