What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Modded Beer Scout from BigBiscuit. Here are his comments from the sale thread this summer. "Custom modded Beer Scout. This beauty was modded with Natural Canvas Micarta covers, stainless liners and a larger lanyard tube to accept a fob instead of a bail..." I have used it around the house and for opening beverages, but decided to carry it for a while.

I hope the day finds you all well. I'm a little sad today, for the passing of our friend Bob and for the pain and sorrow visited on that little Texas town.
Eldon Talley City Knife is tagging along today.

The knife is stunning Gary, but your thoughts are spot on.

Morning folks, carrying these two today

Dapper dark duo today, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

View attachment 793007 Gonna work a bit on the wife’s new mud room and this is just the the pencil sharping, chaulk tube opening, string cutting tool I need! Thanks Ron!
Looks like you've got yourself a project there, Clay, and the right knife for the job!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

34OT today

Classic medium stockman, Steve! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Carrying this one in Bob's memory today. It was from his last sale on the forum.

Like many today the passing of Bob weighs heavy, add an overcast, cold snowy day to the mix and it adds to the weight a bit. I finished my chores outside and just checked the mailbox on the way into the house. A new Natural Micarta Bull Moose was waiting for me to open it up and drop it in my pocket, after a sharpening session of course;) I know Bob always enjoyed a new arrival and knowing that put a smile on my face.
First impressions are good:thumbsup:

I must have took this one out of my pocket a dozen times today! In memory of Bob!

The Barlow for work, the whittler I am carrying because I am proud of myself for finally thinning out the blades to my satisfaction. Nearly a 'total edge', the sharpening bevel is almost the primary bevel.
No time for whittling Right now, but I'll be selecting a stick of white pine later on.

Michael
Tough to ignore that whittler, Michael; superb stag and I like the way you "tuned" the blades! ;):thumbsup: Who made that one?

Glad to see the occasional trapper sneaking in, GT. Both knives are great picks, but I really like that hat!
- Stuart
Thanks, Stuart. :) I may not be a knife expert, but I can dress the part! I'm still not a full-size trapper user, but I've been using a Case mini trapper in the kitchen quite often for a couple of months now, and have discovered that a small trapper is very likable!

Well-said, Gary. :(

LOL! :D Tell us more about that BSA Barlow please GT :) Cool cap too, looks well-made
Thanks, Jack. The cap is very well-made, I think, and has the date 1902 on the emblem; I try to convince people that I bought the cap because it displays my birth year.;) The Barlow is made in China for Sarge, purportedly with 440C blades that are step above my beloved Rough Riders, yet its cost was single-digit USD.

View attachment 793241 My day started with one #15 and will finish up with a different one. I really wasn’t looking for a new favorite knife pattern and have been more then happy with med stockman’s ( mostly Buck 303) for the past 4 decades but I gotta say these GEC 15’s really speak to me!
Crazy how things can change, isn't it, Clay??:thumbsup:;) This old dog has learned some new tricks in his knife life!

Looks good Paul !!!! Now that you have had time to CF & CE it for a little while , how do you rate pulls & etc. ???? I have an Appaloosa reserved and am quite anxious for it . They look to be a great Work Knife , not that mine will get much work . I just need a Northfield 81 pattern . Nice picture too my friend . Keep well and safe up there in the COLD .

Thanks Harry, I'll echo most everyone when it comes to how SMOOTH this knife is on opening:thumbsup: I'd rate the pull at a comfortable 5. Easy, yet solid enough to instill confidence for use. I do like this knife. This will ride in my Carhartt work vest as it did briefly today when it arrived. I sharpened it and went about wrapping up my outdoor chores...should've done those a week ago but minor outpatient surgeries delayed that till today:thumbsup: I like the appalossa pictured on GEC's site:cool: post your pictures when it arrives:thumbsup:

Thanks for the compliment GT :D the whittler is a product of the Queen custom shop. One of fifty (I think) Tuna Valley humpback whittler in burnt stag, released in August. I made some test cuts with the reprofiled blades and it cuts deep and cleanly in pine with little effort, leaving a shiny cut surface. I'm so pleased with the results. I'm considering intalling grease nipples in my elbows for the next time I reshape 154CM blades by hand on a stone:eek:.
Michael
P.S. I really dig that red bone Remington Barlow you got thereo_O:thumbsup:

Sorry, having blue text problems!
