Primble, your absence has been noted Sir......:( but you return with the same high calibre of knife I'm glad to say

Glad tidings to you for Christmas & New Year:thumbsup:

I hope you still have that excellent knife with the pill crusher bolster?

Regards, Will

Did the pruner blade start as a hawkbill? The guano-related shield is also a first for me!!:D Your Empire jack with its extra hole is mysterious; any chance someone could have tried to add a bail at some point?

GT, I have no educated guess as to the historical priority of the pruner to the hawk bill (I just learned that the name is two words). It seems that they started off as the pruner, but were called hawk bills when used for non-pruning purposes. This is from the A.G. Russell web site:
"HAWK BILL OR PRUNER BLADE
The origin of the Hawk Bill or Pruner Blade is lost in times before there was a cutlery industry. It began as a harvesting hook for grapes and other produce. A larger size was built for pruning fruit trees. When Linoleum was invented and there was a need for a way to cut it easily, and then again when electricity began to be used and the insulation needed to be stripped off the ends, the design was there and adapted for those uses as well."

As to the extra hole in the Empire, I don't think that it was an attempt at a bail, as it is so close to the pin that is in place. I think that the first holes drilled in the covers did not align with the holes already in the liners and springs' heads, so they had to drill new ones in the covers and used them. The old and new holes are so close that they touch. Hopefully, they discounted the knife at sale.

p.s. I really like the seasonally festive canoe.

I need to break the habit of letting this thread get away from me, it will surely leave you behind in a hurry...

Thanks Dylan! I usually carry a knife with a bottle opener and use it for all kinds of tasks in addition to opening fine ales; screwdriver, light use prybar, staple remover, etc. Maybe explain to the Mrs. that you are looking for a "multi tool", not a knife :).

A very handsome pairing today

I find your approach rather laudable, I very well might endeavor the same. :D

Thank you for the compliment, they do pair quite nicely, don't they?

That's a handsome pair, indeed!
As I mentioned in the #35Churchill thread, I've got one on the way. Today I was daydreaming about what knives would pair well with it (as I am wont to do) and the #14 in ebony was one of the top choices. Your picture only confirms our good taste in knives! :D:thumbsup:

I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the Churchill, hopefully you get it in hand soon. I am finding that the 14 makes for a rather perfect companion to the Churchill and have been carrying that duo for the last couple of days. Isn't there a saying, "Great minds think alike" and all that? ;)

That little 2 Bladed 14 is just a fantastic little knife . Every time I look at the one that I had bought to Gift , I just have marvel at it . Carry your's in good health my friend . Both knives look great and it is also a good photo of them .

Harry

Thank you, Harry, for the kind words. I am rather surprised at how much I have been enjoying this little 14. I can safely say I probably would not care for it if it were a single blade though. That secondary blade, liner, and spring add some much desired heft and girth to what would otherwise be a very slim knife. I think I would probably enjoy a 2 blade 15 more than the single blade variants for much the same reason. I like the 15 frame, it is a good size and aesthetically pleasing to me, but it is almost too slim for me in its single blade state. As a result, I have been keeping an eye out for a two blade version to try out.

Another two TEW's Tuesday :

Harry

I always enjoy seeing your TEWs. They stand out in a crowd, for all of the good reasons.

What a hypnotic duo, Dylan, and a heck of a shot!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thank you, GT, for the compliments. I must admit, it was a rather hurried shot, but it seemed to turn out ok.

I'm also carrying a knife my daughter gave me for my birthday this morning. I sure am happy she thought I just might like a knife. :D

Happy belated birthday, GT! I hope your day was most enjoyable. Your daughter picked out a rather unique blade for you, I am dazzled by all of the pins!

What a beautiful shot of a gorgeous knife!

Zebra and ebony wood today.

You are pulling out some great ones lately, Tom! Not that you ever show any bad ones, per se, but that Ebony Beer Scout is something else!

I am going with the same duo I've been carrying the last couple of days. Same knives, different shot...

Country songs just keep getting better! :D:D
Impressive pair of work knives!:thumbsup: About 5 years ago, I had 3 vehicles (still have 2 of them) and I'll bet their combined horsepower was less than 350!
- GT

Funny you say that. About 25 years ago, there was 5 hot rods in my driveway that made a total of 1500 horsepower. All where unreliable as daily drivers and very fast for the time. About 2 months ago, my brother was here. We had 1 truck and 1 car in the driveway that totaled 1600 hp and where both extremely reliable daily drivers. It’s amazing how far technology has come lol.
