Thanks Kevin, I got a bit lucky with that one as the grain compliments my choice of handle shape (can't pretend it was the other way round;)). As they are mail order you don't know what you'll get, grain/colour wise. One of the nice things is that those features only start to be revealed as you shape and smooth the handle (you get a little bit of a clue from the end grain on the uncarved handle). I've stockpiled 3 unmade ones just in case they disappear for a total cost of $45! Am happy to EDC the one pictured safe in the knowledge that if it gets dinged I can sand the problem out. If something serious happens I'll make another one:)

I dropped my stag gec pioneer in my pocket today. it's kind of large, but i bought it as a user so i HAVE to use it, right? i know, pics or it didn't happen ...
