Thanks Kevin, I got a bit lucky with that one as the grain compliments my choice of handle shape (can't pretend it was the other way round). As they are mail order you don't know what you'll get, grain/colour wise. One of the nice things is that those features only start to be revealed as you shape and smooth the handle (you get a little bit of a clue from the end grain on the uncarved handle). I've stockpiled 3 unmade ones just in case they disappear for a total cost of $45! Am happy to EDC the one pictured safe in the knowledge that if it gets dinged I can sand the problem out. If something serious happens I'll make another one
