What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Wooden Wednesday is another day in my ebony expedition (following the Clauss of yesterday). Today's carrying companion, a Miller Brothers large cigar jack from the 1872-1926 period, has been a bonny blade in the past so more fresh air is due (for both of us).

Oh, that Miller Bros is a beaut, Stuart!

X marks the spot, r8shell! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Indeed it does, GT. :cool::thumbsup:
I'm looking for symmetry today.

You could certainly do worse, Dylan. The question for me is whether it would be possible for you to do better!! :cool::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you, as always, GT. I strive for excellence most days... But I am humbled by the notion that what might be excellent to me may not be quite so excellent for another. This ideal tends to keep me grounded. Usually.... :D

Thanks for your politeness and good manners, Dylan. :) What are your first impressions of the 56?

I am hoping to do a small write up of the Northfield 56 in Appaloosa in the 56 thread but my initial impressions are good. I got two of them, a 2 blade Tidioute in the Mustard Yellow Bone and a single blade Northfield in the Appaloosa. I have found that I have a preference for knives that are in the 3 3/4" closed length range but I really like the added heft and girth that a secondary blade adds to a 3 1/2" frame. So in terms of a user knife, my preference is for the 2 blade Tidioute.

Which leads me to believe that I would undoubtedly prefer a 2 blade #15 over the single blade variants I currently have. I saw that I narrowly missed one on the exchange yesterday but I am sure there will be others that come up.

The Appaloosa bone on my 56 is exquisite. I did not think I would like it nearly as much as I do. It is unique, full of character, and pairs quite nicely with the Federal shield and long match strike pull.

Many thanks, Gary. Now I know where the expression " Holy Toledo" came from. What a beautiful city!

Again, I couldn't resist.....Plus, it is too new and shiny for my taste. I have to get some patina on this thing.

So happy you were able to land a Churchill, FBC! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it in the future. It truly has become a favorite of mine.

For Tidioute Thursday, I am carrying a colorful duo. We got a light dusting of snow last night.... Was hoping for a lot more. The rain forests of the PNW tend to get skipped a lot when it comes to winter weather.

@5K Qs Thanks, GT. I'm clueless about the pull placement on the Clauss (as I am about many things).
Travman Travman A little dollop of sweetness. Very fine.
r8shell r8shell Thanks, and you see my beaut and raise me by two!
Beard&Owl Beard&Owl That is a special knife, Rob, Thank you for sharing.

Still carrying the Shuffler. I don't like single blade traditionals, but this knife is the bomb!!! I can't help but pocket it.

I agree with you Buzz on not usually liking single blade traditionals (stockmans, new Churchill) However today in my slacks ......

...though my Churchill did sneak back in my pocket this morning while I was doing some before work piddling.

Thanks my friend, it was your posts (and those of a few others) that encouraged me to get a test for sleep apnoea. I got the CPAP just before Xmas, but I have had a hacking cough for 6 months now, the same last year. I've had X-rays, but I think it relates to my asthma, or maybe an allergy (my doctor is very complacent). The cough is so bad, I have even hurt one of my ribs! :eek: If I was a horse, I think I would have been shot by now! :D Always a treat to see your spectacular Taramundi :thumbsup:

Jack sorry to hear about your health problems. I've not much respiratory experience but I can't see why your cough would necessarily be your asthma. 6 months sounds a long time to have a chronic exacerbation of asthma.
I'm assuming your x-ray is clear. I'm assuming your on asthma meds? (Inhalers?) These should be controlling it; if there not you need a medication review. An adverse reaction to your asthma meds would be chronic and persistent. Are you sure it's not the cold? Which I'm sure you know can trigger exacerbations of asthma.
If you suspect your having an allergic reaction to something have you tried a differential diagnosis? If not contraindicated you could try taking a short course of antihisatimines. Loratadine or Chloraphenamine are both OTC (Over-the-counter) meds available from any pharmacist. Many hayfever meds contain one or the other of these. If your cough lessens or resolves after you take them then you could conclude it is possibly an allergy, and then investigate your meds/diet/environment further for possible triggers.

Great photos everyone.
Shocked to find rust :eek: on my Ankermesser today :rolleyes:

A bit of a throwback on this Thursday as I am nearly at the bottom of the box of Remington replicas that I uncovered a couple of weeks ago. As previously with the Remington R-4 Utility knife, this R-1 Upland knife (by Camillus) is still in the original wrapping of clear plastic and grease/oil, so I did not unwrap it to photograph. It has a Turkish clip, gutting hook, and a shotgun choke tool (12 and 20 gauge).

The curved blade is the gutting hook (aka "bird hook"). I have several knives with them, but I've never used one (there are easier ways to accomplish the job).

To actually have a knife to carry today, I went with an R-1128 Trapper (1989 by Camillus), which is a hefty brute. I pity the fool (sorry, Mr. T) who puts a cardboard box or a summer sausage, or a box of summer sausages, in my way today. Slice 'n dice, baby!

As you can see, unlike the other Camillus made replicas with Delrin scales, this one is clad in cocobolo.
