Straight Edge Spectacular!

Camillus #17 Heavy Jack today. I just scored a #16 last night which is on it's way :thumbsup:

Very nice. Couple questions...

When were those made?
I have a couple of 23 big jacks, that I believe were made '46-'56. I wonder if yours were earlier, or concurrent?

What is the the closed length? the 23s are 4 3/16". The blades on your 17 look look very similar, if not identical to the 23.

Maybe they renamed it the 23 when they dropped bone scales? I'd give a body part to have that bone on my 23s, even though I am a bit fond of the yellow synthetic scales that mine have.

Jack sorry to hear about your health problems. I've not much respiratory experience but I can't see why your cough would necessarily be your asthma. 6 months sounds a long time to have a chronic exacerbation of asthma.
I'm assuming your x-ray is clear. I'm assuming your on asthma meds? (Inhalers?) These should be controlling it; if there not you need a medication review. An adverse reaction to your asthma meds would be chronic and persistent. Are you sure it's not the cold? Which I'm sure you know can trigger exacerbations of asthma.
If you suspect your having an allergic reaction to something have you tried a differential diagnosis? If not contraindicated you could try taking a short course of antihisatimines. Loratadine or Chloraphenamine are both OTC (Over-the-counter) meds available from any pharmacist. Many hayfever meds contain one or the other of these. If your cough lessens or resolves after you take them then you could conclude it is possibly an allergy, and then investigate your meds/diet/environment further for possible triggers.

Great photos everyone.
Shocked to find rust :eek: on my Ankermesser today :rolleyes:

I really appreciate your advice Donn :thumbsup: I've not heard back from the hospital, so I'm also assuming the X-rays were clear. I use two different inhalers, but keep wrapped up, and have a good warm home. I think I need to book an appointment with a different GP :thumbsup:

:eek: Blimey! Great-looking Ankermesser though :thumbsup:

One more day, one more trip !!!

I'm happy to see how pleased you are with your new stainless stag 73, Senhor Pinto!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::)

Mike, you're such a man of mystery!! :eek: What's up with this dynamite duo? Is that a custom Vic Classic engraved with a meaningful date for you? And how about some more info about that super-handsome Case?

Nice to see that so many fine knives are being carried. First time I've carried this older Queen Barlow. It fits well and sets almost unnoticed in the pocket.

Congrats on the Queen Barlow, herder! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: I think the rounded bolsters on those Queens are top-notch!

Many thanks, Gary. Now I know where the expression " Holy Toledo" came from. What a beautiful city!

Again, I couldn't resist.....Plus, it is too new and shiny for my taste. I have to get some patina on this thing.

That ebony Churchill is the cat's meow, man! :thumbsup::cool: I'd love a knife like that with a spear instead of a clip, but one of the draws of a Churchill for me is the 1217 in the model number, since that's been my house number for 35 years, and a spearpoint version would become 2217 (I think). :rolleyes:

Toledo was a fantastic city to visit when I was in Spain (but I liked ALL of the places my daughter took me - Sevilla, Granada, Valencia, Denia - for different reasons :cool::thumbsup:). I bought 2 knives while I was in Toledo (seems like at least every other store has knives/swords for sale), and I have at least 4 more that my daughter bought in Toledo as gifts for me since out visit. :)

Well deserved praise for that Taramundi! :thumbsup: I sorta had you in mind when I picked my WW Daily Double! ;):D
Thanks, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:;) If you're open to more requests, another WW Daily Double would be the Osage Orange 73 and Dixie!! :thumbsup::cool::p

Splendid Euro pair, Joshua! :cool::cool::thumbsup: More curiosity from me: what's the dragon thing in your signature??

...Thanks pal :) Yeah, though it's not as bad as the cough I had last year :(

I'm celebrating the Guardians thread reaching 222 pages with a 2 Lambsfoot day! ;) :D :thumbsup:

Fantastic lambsfoot pairing, Jack! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: Although I wonder if page 222 doesn't call for 3 lambsfoot pairs from the Captain of the Guardians!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Indeed it does, GT. :cool::thumbsup:
I'm looking for symmetry today.
View attachment 853693
Definitely achieved symmetry (or very near it) over a vertical line!! :cool::thumbsup:;) (Next you should look for a pair of knives that would give you symmetry over both vertical AND horizontal lines. :rolleyes:) My goodness, that curved Böker shield looks great on that congress pattern! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Great light for photos this morning. These two are in my pocket. :)

Captivating couple, Ron! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Still carrying the Shuffler. I don't like single blade traditionals, but this knife is the bomb!!! I can't help but pocket it.

hIDSY8fh.jpg
This all seems so out of character for you, Buzz!! :confused::eek:;):D

Thank you, as always, GT. I strive for excellence most days... But I am humbled by the notion that what might be excellent to me may not be quite so excellent for another. This ideal tends to keep me grounded. Usually.... :D

For Tidioute Thursday, I am carrying a colorful duo. We got a light dusting of snow last night.... Was hoping for a lot more. The rain forests of the PNW tend to get skipped a lot when it comes to winter weather.

Thanks for your initial impressions of your 56s, Dylan; I look forward to seeing more in the 56 thread. :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
By the time late February rolls around, I'm definitely NOT hoping for a lot more snow! :mad::rolleyes: You PNW types must be nuts!! :D
That photo is sublime! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup: But it reminds me of an old Sunday School song: "Red and Yellow, Black and White, They are precious in His sight." :cool::thumbsup: You could probably lay out all four colors from the song! ;)

5K Qs 5K Qs Thanks, GT. I'm clueless about the pull placement on the Clauss (as I am about many things).

Another superb Otter classic, donn! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: And I echo your concern for Jack's chronic cough!:confused::eek: Jack, a second opinion sounds like a smashing (and logical) idea! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

A bit of a throwback on this Thursday as I am nearly at the bottom of the box of Remington replicas that I uncovered a couple of weeks ago. As previously with the Remington R-4 Utility knife, this R-1 Upland knife (by Camillus) is still in the original wrapping of clear plastic and grease/oil, so I did not unwrap it to photograph. It has a Turkish clip, gutting hook, and a shotgun choke tool (12 and 20 gauge).

PGvt2no.jpg

The curved blade is the gutting hook (aka "bird hook"). I have several knives with them, but I've never used one (there are easier ways to accomplish the job).
...
To actually have a knife to carry today, I went with an R-1128 Trapper (1989 by Camillus), which is a hefty brute. I pity the fool (sorry, Mr. T) who puts a cardboard box or a summer sausage, or a box of summer sausages, in my way today. Slice 'n dice, baby!

Couple of stellar Remingtons, Stuart! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: That cocobolo trapper is heavy-duty!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup: (I haven't had summer sausage for 6 months, but now you've got me yearning for some! :mad::rolleyes:)

Enchanting, Gev!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Just out of this world, Leslie!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you for the kind comment! The dragon is a picture of sketch of "Smaug" done by J.R.R. Tolkien for his book, The Hobbit.

Edit:

Tolkien has a cool monogram, too:
