What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Ever single day is a treat, just to see what awesome knife you’re carrying.

Well done!!! I hated putting down my punch stockman today, but I promised that I’d carry a different Case each day for the next week.

So here is my carry for the day. The usual GEC #42, and my daily Case today is an orange G-10 Jr. Scout. It looks hideous, but I’m working outside today, and the orange is very easy to spot.

The Jr. Scout pattern is an unsung hero of the modern Case lineup. The punch on this small knife (fits in my change pocket) is absurdly sturdy, and just as pointy. The can opener and cap lifter both work quite well, especially considering their diminutive sizes, and the long pen blade is as sharp as can be. I really wish they’d made a yellow Delrin version of this knife, cuz I hate the look of the orange G-10. But like I said, today’s carry is more about function than aesthetics.

If I have one complaint about the Jr. Stockman, it concerns the bail. The bail isn’t fixed, so it tends to flop around a bit.

And I love orange g10. That camp knife is nice.

I’m lucky enough to have my Granddad’s shotgun as well, but also never had a chance to have one of his knives.
(Some lowlife stole his revolver from my Gramma, or I would have that to treasure as well)
I’ve asked my Dad about what pocketknives Granddad carried, but he really doesn’t recall. He was only 11 when his father passed away, and that was almost 80 years ago!)

Great story! I’ve got my grandpas uncle Henry and my great grandpas kabar. I also have his schrade hunter that he never used. Was new in box when we found it. And his shotgun that he got when his best friend died. I restored it. My cousin got his shotgun he used most (I could not hog it all) but he had worn out so many old ithicas that it wasn’t actually the one I remember him using when I was a kid. I was much older during that ones years.

There’s just no words to describe how special it is to own and use a knife that was also carried and used by a family’s previous generations. I’m certain that childhood memories of seeing our dads and granddads use their pocketknives every day is what started so many of us on this journey.

My grandfather was born around the turn of the century and lived in southern Vermont and western Massachusetts. They lived in Greenfield, Mass where the original John Russell Cutlery factory was located before it moved to Shelburne Falls. The plethora of pocket knives that must have been available to men in that area just boggles my mind. I’m sure he must have owned a wonderful Russell Barlow at some point!

Thanks for posting. I’ll have to look for this album. Definitely thinking of Doc this time of year.
"Doc and the Boys", one of my all time favorite albums. I'll have to go look for it! I'll need to add "On Praying Ground" to my wish list.
Nice knives guys!
I haven't changed up my daily carry. These are all I need and I like 'em both.
