What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I have some mower blades that fit a mower that I no longer own . If you want them , I could bring them down sometime ..

Harry

Most generous of you, Harry!
After grinding a few out of unknown steels from old files and mower blades, I discovered that is not as smart as using proper knife steel, at least that’s the consensus in the BF Knifemaker’s forum.

That’s why I bought that bar of 1080 from that old boy at the knife show and picked his brain about heat treating and tempering.

Actually going down to Woodcraft in Woodridge- they sell small scraps of exotic woods. I’m looking for something to scale my most recent file knife.:D

Take care of those Eye Witnesses, my friend!

Copperberry Copperberry Thank you for your kind words. I'm a relatively new guy to collecting, too (I inherited most of my traditional knives and am catching up with everyone else). Stick with the folks on the Porch. You'll learn and love a lot here. I have. That Case tiny toothpick is FINE. I may try to find one to carry and post with you.
- Stuart

No Stuart, thank YOU for your kind words. I’ve already learned much from my time here on the porch, the best thing being that I don’t need to feel weird for loving knives so much ;)

I certainly recommend the tiny toothpick. It’s amazing how much cutting edge you get for such a tiny knife and it’s so thin it’s pretty much a laser.

That there is a drool worthy knife!

Finally out in the woods for a few nights. Brought this one for camp duty.

You really classed up those woods for a few days!

Gonna be a rainy day again, at least I have good company!

No kidding, excellent company indeed!!!

I decided I wanted to be cool like @Buzzbait and tmd_87 tmd_87 so I’m carrying my micarta 43 today!

This one got shoved aside for a while because it's "only" a $14 knife and besides that I'm not all that fond of the muskrat pattern for some silly reason o_O. But something about it has always attracted me and it's amazingly well put together with no gaps, no blade play, and pretty good centering. It feels good in the hand and I find the clip point blades to be quite attractive. (They were my favorite until I discovered the Wharncliffe.) It's been in my Case horizontal sheath the last couple of days and I think it will stay there for a while. (The original dye job was a blotchy pink on the pile side, but a bit of Rit fixed that.)

Thanks, Jack! I like that Doctor's (?) knife.

Lots of chores to be done at the new place, painting, cleaning, yard work.... I am going well prepared.

Beautiful Bull Buster, Dylan! I feel like we don't see those around here much. I know GEC hasn't done them in a few years, and I'm hoping they will again soon. I love the #71 Bull Nose, but wouldn't mind the larger version. (I did have a Smith & Sons Mudbug, which is essentially the same knife, but mine suffered from awful blade rap and a proud tip, which is a difficult combination.)

I just had Pearl in my pocket today.

I have my granddad's shotgun and hunting coat (now my son's), but I never had a chance to get his knife.

- Stuart

I’m lucky enough to have my Granddad’s shotgun as well, but also never had a chance to have one of his knives.
(Some lowlife stole his revolver from my Gramma, or I would have that to treasure as well)
I’ve asked my Dad about what pocketknives Granddad carried, but he really doesn’t recall. He was only 11 when his father passed away, and that was almost 80 years ago!)

I backpacked the Maryland stretch of the Appalachian Trail during a college spring break many moons ago. Nice country!

Now don't be tempted to do any bushcraft batoning with that beauty!
I know every piece of the Md AT very very well. There's so precious few backpacking trails through this state...but the folks in the know head a bit further west to Greenridge State Forest, where we are now. It's a precious piece of land that we've been haunting for years. As far as bushcraft duties go, I've brought along something a little more appropriate for those tasks :)
