Thanks, FBC. That Black Box belly is pretty sweet.

Thanks, GT. Yes, liner lock. I understand that Ka-Bar made the early L. L. Bean knives, but I don't know if this is one.

Thanks, Ratbert, it is a new name to me, too. The small metal rectangle on the Bean is a file for sharpening fishing hooks. Pretty handy, too.

Ahhh...that makes sense. Thanks!

My Dad has a S&W fixed 4"drop point hunter of that era. Fit and finish are amazing, truly mirror polish zero blemishes in the blade. Has the same emblem inlaid in the handle, think its same as the grip badge from the handguns of that time.edit: pretty sure the blade profile is the same as your folder, with is a beautiful piece btw.

Your dad and I are lucky fellows. It truly is a uniquely fine knife, as are their pistols of that 1970's era.
Condolences to the family and friends of Derrick Bohn. Ron ( @Half/Stop ) told me early on what an important place he occupied in the trusted trade of knife companies. That integrity will be missed.

Officially, I ‘m retired, but don’t seem to have time to act like it. Spent 7 hours on a tractor yesterday, and today I’m headed to a widow’s house to finish painting the fence I started before the latest bout of rains. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try to get caught up at home.
Nothing fancy, utilitarian all the way...

I know what you mean! I've been retired for four years now & I can't figure out how I got anything done all those years when I was working, because there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day now. I sure enjoy myself a helluva lot more though.:)
