What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

We’re hanging out at home today. We’ve just finished our lunch which consisted of mixed beans and ham that cooked in the crock pot since 4:00am this morning. Accompanied by oven roasted potatoes and a fresh baked pone of cornbread! :D After a while we’re going to have some peaches that we put up last year during the local season and a piece of angel food cake to soak up the juice from the peaches! :eek: It really doesn’t get much better as far as I’m concerned! I’m thinking as I type this that I really should have taken a photo. ;) Oh well maybe tonight with the leftovers! :D My knife friend for today is my 48 Northfield Improved Trapper. I hope everyone is enjoying the day as much as we are! :thumbsup:

We took a trip down I75 after lunch today. My wife wanted to go to Barnes and Noble. On the way back home it was coming some terrible storms so we decided to come home on the old road. We dodged tree limbs and debris all the way home. We stopped and bought a few groceries and when we finally turned down our street we started noticing all the limbs and debris laying in all the neighbors yards. As we drove in front of our house we looked over to find our White Pine tree had blown over across the front yard. :( It shattered right above the base. I planted this tree roughly 40 years ago. The limbs were approximately 30 feet in diameter at the base and it was probably nearly 80 feet tall. I’m lucky it didn’t hit the house or anything else. If it had blown the other direction it could have hit the neighbors house. During all of this I had my 35 Churchill Cull Sambar Stag in my pocket. :D

Wow, Ron! So glad you and your wife are OK; too bad about the tree. I'd call that Churchill good luck, but it was fortuitous that your wife wanted to go to Barnes & Noble!

@jwb01 Very nice picture, fine cigar, and I really like tha river rock "worry stone". Knife is in good company.
RDaneel RDaneel That's a nice picture of a fine stockman, Dean.
Half/Stop Half/Stop Sorry about your pine, Ron. 40 year is young/adulthood, so an untimely loss. Did you cut up the lower limbs with your #35 like a REAL MAN? Or were you more like me and lovingly look at your #35 (Case #11 in my case) while calling buddies to help cut and haul?

Thank you, Stuart!

Still under the considerable influence of the pictures and history posted by @Jack Black , my Sunday sojourn takes me from Sheffield to Napanoch with today's totin' duo: a Rodgers (Cutlers to His Majesty, No. 6 Norfolk Street, Sheffield, 1875-1900) pen and a Napanoch Knife Co. (NAPANOCH CO., NAPANOCH, N.Y. curved stamp, 1900-1919 and 1931-1938) pen.

Gorgeous pen knives, Stuart! The old ones in good condition are such treasures. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I had this sheepfoot TC with me at church this morning.

I put this knife in one of my pockets today. I've had it for years but haven't used it much in the last year or so.

1979 CV 4" Case 6292 Jack with square, pinched bolsters. It's interesting that the covers don't match from side to side. The mark side cover is brown while the pile side cover is black. Further, note that the pile side has a notch in the cover and frame to enable easier opening of the pen blade.

To better illustrate the notch in the frame and cover on the pile side of the knife here is a picture of the knife's pile side when I first got the knife - all shiny and not used and before I started using my board.

... I'm always looking for 100 year old bareheaded jacks, ... :)
Anyone we know? ;):p

Overcast and raining ducks and frogs here, so I grabbed up two to tote for which I already had a picture and could take the humidity. Queen model 48 balloon whittler (1946-1949) and Queen model 31 congress (1961-1971).

Scratted Ancient today.

Such a comely knife, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I may take some measurements on this photo and try some "hand-scratting" on one of my MAMs this summer. ;)

Thanks, Gary! It is always a joy to see your gorgeous Alox Pruner. :thumbsup:
...
Thanks for the Pruner props, Dean. :)

My sister wanted a variety of tomatoes for tonight, so the Sod Buster went to work ! It's a nice overcast day so I caught some rays to turn on those 156 epigenetic switches while I was at it. And lets not forget about the all important cholesterol sulfate. Listen to Dr. Stephanie Seneff's talk if it strikes your fancy :D

A new barlow today

Congrats to all of you who scored at least one of the latest run of Ancients!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Yes, exactly! The mini moose pattern is what you’d get if a medium stockman serpentine cross pollenated with a mini trapper. Same two blade combinations, but one on each end on the mini moose.

Thanks for the mini moose confirmation and the "biological" explanation! :thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Thanks, Jack. :)

Thanks Gary! :) You like single blade knives, aka Lambsfoot, you have several Sowbellies that you are fond of. I believe you would like a single blade Sowbelly!! ;)
I believe you're right, Ron! :rolleyes::thumbsup:

Thanks, Stuart. :) I gave up cigars almost 4 years ago, but I always smoked cheap wood-tipped cigars, anyway, that didn't need trimming. ;)

I think I might have a year or two of ground level shots left in me. ;):D
How do you like that S&M ?

I just picked up this little Black Box beauty on the exchange.

Congrats on the Black Box whittler, FBC; you're turning into one of the Black Box Barons here! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I haven't actually used the S&M much, but I sure like the way it looks. :rolleyes: I tried some whittling with it when I took the dogs out one evening this week, but the edge angle seems too obtuse for serious whittling, as is.

Notable pair!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Just staggering into Stagurday. A W.H. Wragg (Sheffield) English jack. Goins says the mark was used from 1850-1875, but this knife's in pretty good shape to be that old. @Jack Black , do I have my dates correct?

(Edited to correct knife pattern and quoted dates from Goins.)

Amazing condition for a knife that's at least 140 years old!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

William Henry Wragg was born around 1831, but didn't set up shop until 1871. ...
