Well, it was another great weekend of knife viewing here on the porch, and some of the photography is top notch.
I will start this week with a couple of Old Timers, a 194, and a 12.

Thank you for posting this one. The desert ironwood on those 78s is some of the best!
A cautionary tale: A while ago, maybe five years or so, I went to the local gun & knife show. A fellow there was selling off his old stock Queen knives in cocobolo for very good prices. Good enough that I bought two of these #26 small stockmans, one to use and one to keep nice. Excellent fit and finish, truly top notch. Except for the terribly ground edges. No matter, says I, I'll just put new edge bevels on the user! Well, my sharpening skills weren't what they are now, and I'd never worked with D2 steel. I got frustrated and decided to use a belt sander(never drink while sharpening) I got it sharp, but it looks a mess. I was so mad at myself that I put the knife away in a drawer, embarrassed to show it.
I looked at the knife yesterday, and I think I may as well carry and use it. The cocobolo is beautiful, and the f&f is still great. Maybe a little patina will hide the scratches, and when it needs sharpening, I hope I can do a neater job. So here's my carry for this week. I'll add a Lambsfoot for Yorkshire Day, of course!

Nicely paired Jeff![]()
Oh yes, it could have been worse. I was being so careful not to get a recurve that I pretty much missed the first quarter inch of blade.Yep. You got a bevel on it now!
They say ‘fessin up is good for the soul, my friend. But hey - a belt sander is not as bad as a coarse stone bench grinder.
I have purposely bought knives that were abused with grinders on which to hone (nice pun, eh?) my skills. Very common on working man’s/women’s knives like electricians. What’s not cool is when the seller’s photos artfully conceal it.
Thank you kind sir!Grand start to the week Ron![]()
If I recall correctly there is a lot of things one should not do while drinking!A cautionary tale: A while ago, maybe five years or so, I went to the local gun & knife show.
