What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Keep it to traditional knives only please. Modern folders belong in General Knife Discussion, https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/general-knife-discussion.715/.
If you have questions, please read the guidelines at the top of the forum page, Guidelines For The "Traditional Folders & Fixed Blades" Sub-Forum

I believe the “offending” picture is part of this poster’s signature, and not one that is intentionally being posted in the wrong forum.

The facts that I see it in all of his/her posts, and that it is absent from your having quoted the post supports that theory.

Today, I'm totin' a Dean Roath saddlehorn lockback in Macassar ebony and brass. Dean Roath, of Baton Rouge, LA, was a veteran of 20 years in the U. S. Coast Guard, a retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and a member of the Knife Makers Guild. He died May 26, 2005 at age 62.

I’m sorry, boss, but I think the ranch boss that is posted,qualifies, doesn’t it?

Edit: i don’t see his signature on mobile.

Sorry about that. There was a modern folder posted on numerous threads. In trying to clean it up I screwed it up. My apologies to all. I'm not going to attempt to get things back to what I planned on since I'll probably only make it worse.

Slim and sunny, Stuart! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: Lot of similarities to the big toothpicks I've come to admire.

Distinguished dusky duo, Joshua! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Carrying these two today (old pic of my 66) :) :thumbsup:

Pair to pocket proudly, Jack! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

61 today. Crooked etch?

Handsome congress, but that etch does look "off"! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

These two this morning. :)

Couple of charmers, Ron! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

It’s the album cover from The American jazz musician Miles Davis
“Live Evil” .
Always cool to see a palindrome! :cool::thumbsup::)

How do you decide whether to carry this one or the ebony Calf Roper, Paul?? :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Case Bonestag whittler.

Beautiful bonestag, Dean! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

The only base not covered today is a straight blade. Got a bit of wood, a bit of bone, bit of stainless, bit of carbon, bit of shiny, bit of patina, bit of fixed, bit of folding. It's a lot of bits making up some small knives.

Valued variety, Shawn! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

As usual, GT, great eye for the detail! Samuel Winterbottom is credited with “inventing” the Winterbottom bone pattern. If you have any interest in the whole story, you can read it here.
Thanks for the link, Ken. :):thumbsup:

...
These two for me today.

I like the satin finish on the Barlow, Tom! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, GT. The list of makers of my limited supply of custom knives is a veritable "wno's who" of "who's that?".

... I really like both of your picks today, though I shudder a little at the use of such fine folders for food prep when perfectly adequate fixed bladed kitchen knives abound, but there are many adherents to the practice on the Porch, so maybe I'm missing something (other than the extra knife cleaning).

"Who's who" of "who's that" :thumbsup::D
I feel guilty having so many knives, especially if I don't even use them. Food prep is one of the few uses I can dig up (and I enjoy using my folders for food). :rolleyes:

Thank you very much, Jack and GT. I feel very fortunate to have it.

Today I'm totin' like it's 2017:

Great, glowing photo, Greg! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thank you for your kind comments, Gary! To answer your questions:

My problem with the Case Caliber stockman thickness is specific only to those covers; they are significantly thicker than other models. The only exception is the Bone Stag stockman, it has the same thickness but only at the center - it tapers to the bolsters. Personal opinion only! :):)

Regarding the blade coating on one of my teardrops, it is a type of PVD coating which helps protect the blade (that's how it is described). I just bought the knife because I thought it looked neat!

Thanks for asking!

Good to see your Imperial toothpick again. It must give you a sense of home as you make breakfast on vacation! :thumbsup:
Thanks for the info and opinions, Dean. :):thumbsup:

That pic makes me think of the knife as a big cat (leopard or cheetah)!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Cool Colonial Barlow! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Blue denim acrylic today.
Another terrific 26, Ken! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Magnificent modifications, Jeff! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks! Standard blade config for stockman. Sheepsfoot and Spey secondaries. 3 7/8” cpm154 from Jim Dunlap. Half stops in all and pull is a perfect 5-6 on all.

Warning! Stay away from the Case knife thread or you will you will find yourself spending a lot of money on vintage Case Redbone Knives! This is a 1965/69 Cooperhead, and it can hold its own against a modern GEC.
...
That's a ravishing copperhead, Leslie!!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Robeson Barlow made by Queen sold to me by @Augie . Like this knife a lot after looking for one for 4 years. Thank you very much John.

Harry
Resplendent red bone Robeson Barlow, Harry! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

No black today, just old bone.
High Carbon Steel Sears, Roebuck 4 blade cattle.
I guess you’d have to say this is a lefty, since the main opens to the left from the pile side...View attachment 967335View attachment 967344
Boss bone on that knife, Jeff! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

No matter what other knife I'm carrying, there's always room for one of the the Alox Cadets in the other pocket.

Productive policy! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Today I’m Totin these two. A Northfield 73 in Blood Red Jig Bone and a Guardians Lambsfoot in Ebony. :) Have a great Friday! :D

That's a charismatic black/red combo, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Changing it up today:

Charming Churchill, Greg! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

A custom from forum member Shaerk and one of my favorite scouts today. Happy Friday!

With @Buzzbait on hiatus, we're depending on you, Tom, for a Camillus camp knife fix! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks for trying, Gary. :thumbsup::thumbsup:;) I didn't really want to see the pics in one member's sig each time he posted.

Classic Case, Steve.

Here's a Rough Rider stag medium trapper along with a bubblewrap/tape "pocket slip". I've been using the slip almost daily since Jack Black mailed me my ebony lambsfoot about the first of June with the slip as part of the packaging. Surprisingly durable (although not a lot of visual appeal)! :rolleyes:stagMT.bubbleslip.jpg

Here's another Imperial I grabbed for vacation; it's usually on my kitchen counter:

OK, Sorry about that. Moderator dumb attack. The posts were reported and I didn't look far enough to see that the modern folder was part of the signature line. It being a full size image threw me off. I guess the night before last overnight train from Chicago to Syracuse with no sleep is catching up with me. Thanks to American Airlines for canceling my flight home, forcing me to cab from O'Hare to Union Station and catch the Lake Shore Limited train home.
I'll use that as an excuse! Gonna take a nap!

Ingenious pocket slip there, GT! I'm digging the toasted marshmallow-y stag on your Trapper. Thank you for the kind words, my friend.

Very cool looking knife definitely something different. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, GT. Like this one? (Please excuse the non-sunny Wester Bros. whittler.)

Thanks for the kind comments, GT, and the culinary explanation. It makes perfect sense in that light. I like the MOTS clad Imperial.

I'm not sure yet, the hemlock is new to me so that will have to wear off before I can tell which I like better for use. I bought a hemlock long before the ebony but intended to keep it mint from the get go, so now I have two.

There are some things I like better on one than the other. Time will tell.
