What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'm quite a bit behind on this thread. I'll sit down later tonight and get caught up. Here's one I've been carrying all week. It was a gift from Brett some time back, but had broken/shrunk plastic covers. I put some appropriate ebony covers on it, looks just fine to me now! I left the finish on the bolsters and covers a little rough, to give it a more lived-in look. The steel is a joy to use, it sharpens up quite nice.

Thanks, Dylan! I've thought about the Zippo torch insert -- while I usually keep a Zippo handy, I never use it to light a cigar :D -- but I also really enjoy the sound, the smell, the feel of lighting a traditional Zippo, so I just use a separate lighter (Xikar double flame torch) for cigars.

I have a certain brand of Irish cigarillos that I keep handy for a nice quick smoke. I use a standard Zippo for those without too much issue. Once you ignite and let the fumes burn away before lighting up, it usually doesn't impart any noticeable flavor. But yes, never for a good cigar. I use matches exclusively for my pipes and use the torch insert for cigars.

Thanks Dylan, excellent pic of a great-looking pair :)

Thank you, Jack, I hope your back is starting to ease up some. I've been enjoying seeing your canes in the Guardians thread.

Dignified distinguished dusky duo, Dylan! ;):thumbsup:

Canoe of the Week is a Winchester with Buckstag covers (Staglonesque):

Thank you for the compliments, GT! I really like the looks of that Winchester, a very fine looking Canoe.

A beautiful knife, Paul, that patina just adds something special.

Got this one out for the Queen thread, might as well carry it along today :D
Bit big and heavy for my pocket but fancied a change.

That is such a fine looking Queen, Will. One should be rather proud to have that one in the pocket.

Beautiful bit of work, Glenn! That ebony goes smashingly well with that knife.

I am carrying a couple of excellent working knives today, clad in one of my favorite materials.

I was a top speller when I was in elementary school, but I mis-spelled "Taramundi" in my post yesterday. When I type the word, I often miss the second "a".

Tough to top that creamy Otter, but the sheath is like a cherry on top! ;):thumbsup:

Thanks for the support, Jack. :) No surprise that Jack Black would post black wood on Wednesday; that pair should help you claw your way to the top!:cool::thumbsup::)

I'm sure that versatile pair enabled you to come out on top of any breakfast battles, Ron! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That pair deserves top billing, Jeff!:cool::thumbsup:

Like cream, that old Case rises to the top, @ISKRA !!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I like that Otter, Jack,:thumbsup: but off the top of my head, don't I remember you having an Otter Ankermesser, or is your knife with the inlaid anchor not an Otter? I hope you get on top of the back pain ASAP!!
Dean, are you back to top form after your recent procedure??

Good idea, Jer; that makes the Imperial with the yellow rectangle a top banana!:cool::thumbsup:

Top of the line ebony duo, John!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That two-tone Workhorse is top dog, Ken! ;):thumbsup:

That trio is terrific, top to bottom!:thumbsup::cool:

USDA top choice lambsfoots, Taylor & Dave!:cool::thumbsup:

Tip-top timber trio, Gary! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, Tom. :) You're at the top of your game with that fixed/folder pair!:thumbsup::cool:

Top flight pen knife, Stuart!!:thumbsup::cool:

Top-notch teardrops, Dean!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Sorry to hear that one of them cut notches out of your fingers.

Our top story today: Opinels cut like the dickens (as J jackknife says)! :D Great knife, Spaten Spaten , and it's cool that you and Opinels have a long history!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the kindness, Dave; you make me feel like I'm on top of the world! :) (You can reshape an Opinel handle quite easily with sandpaper, if you want to flatten the sides for pocket carry.)

That's pretty much top of the food chain for a jack knife, Paul!:thumbsup::cool:

:thumbsup: Both worth top dollar, Ron!! ;):thumbsup:

Top of the heap pic of your lambsfoot, Joshua, in the way it shows off the texture of the wood I hadn't noticed before!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, Spaten Spaten . Here you go:

Thanks for the top quality info and compliment, Stuart. :)

You can store some top drawer knives in that impressive chest, @jnevill !! ;):cool:

Thanks for the picture @5K Qs! That looks like a handy blade shape. It would probably make short work of some veggies.

This arrived today, and went right into its sheath and onto my belt. It has great f&f and solid lockup. I’m typically not a big fan of micarta and prefer natural handle materials, but @skblades put in a lot of work on the forum knife so I decided to take a chance on it. I’m glad I did!

The Buck 112 is my daily driver on the job (I work construction). The 501 offers nearly as much cutting edge and, for me, a full four fingered grip while being substantially slimmer and lighter than the 112. I can hardly wait to put the 501 through its paces.

I’ve included this size comparison for anyone thinking of picking up a 501.

A TL-29 that I turned into a one blade jack...slim and light.

Fine work there, Jeff, and with the salsa, too, it appears.

This Winchester hasn’t seen the light of day in quite a while, decided to remedy that today.

Well, it's shining now. Thanks for showing it, Tom.

Two for Thursday! A Case 1970 Barlow and a Lambsfoot from A. Wright! :)

I keep scrolling back to look at that Case, Ron. Classic!!

Top flight pen knife, Stuart!!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, GT. You comments are always the tops, and you foot o'lamb topped off today's terrific displays.

This thing is a real slicer

And a real looker, too. Ethereal!

Thanks, Steve. I showed the picture of your Craftsman to my Craftsman, and mine ran and hid under the bed.

Another day and another Case.

Another fine one, Nick. You and Half/Stop Half/Stop pulled out the stops for the classics. Thanks.

I've been carrying my vintage stag mini copperhead the last couple of days.

That knife has everything to like: graceful stag, finely lined bolsters, and Wharncliffe main. Most excellent, Ace.

I put some appropriate ebony covers on it, looks just fine to me now! I left the finish on the bolsters and covers a little rough, to give it a more lived-in look. The steel is a joy to use, it sharpens up quite nice.

Great work, Glenn, that is a very handsome old fellow. Thanks for bringing it back to life.

But yes, never for a good cigar. I use matches exclusively for my pipes and use the torch insert for cigars.

Hear, hear!! I'm with you, Dylan, and that's a potent pair that you're packing, too.

Take good care of her, Paul. She's been treated well.
I love it Wayne:thumbsup: the knife and knowing it was a fellow forum members knife. I often wonder about that when I get one on the site. Many times I'll flitz the patina off and start new but I just can't with this one, it's just to good:cool: The only thing I did was put an edge on it and drop it in my pocket:thumbsup:

Thanks Jack! I really like that picture, the waterfall in the background is perfect for the knife :) .

Thanks a lot Tom :) I think it would have originally been a weir, feeding water to one of the water-powered woollen mills along that particular river :)

Thank you my friend, my back is still sore, but I'm hoping it'll begin to ease up over the weekend :) Maybe I need to 'Oil The Joints' ;) John Cotton Cigarillos used to be one of my regular smokes when I was a kid ;) Cool ebony pairing there :)

Thank you Dylan, but the patina came on the knife, it's my job to carry on the tradition:thumbsup: Great pair of ebonies your sportin, two great blade options:cool:

Since I received my Guardians' Real Lamb Foot (a.k.a. "Ralf") I've been carrying it almost every day to learn it's nuances. I like it very much, and the tapered, pointy straight-edged blade is quite useful. The handle fits my hand extremely well, and is a joy to use. Sometimes, however, I still prefer a longer blade with a belly for certain chores. A large stockman usually filled this bill for me in the past, and still will at times in the future (I love my stockmen!). But a viable alternative is to carry two different single blades, one straight and one bellied. Along with my always, ALWAYS EDC Cadet, here is my dual single blade carry.
