I’ve included this size comparison for anyone thinking of picking up a 501.
Drop dead gorgeous. I just don't see many Craftsman Barlows, especially in mint condition with nice bone. Love it.Craftsman Barlow today

Thanks palI'm afraid my Ankermesser has blank tangs, I guess it could be an Otter, but the Anchor is placed slightly differently to the modern ones

Fine cutlery guys, and really nice photography!
Otter has some really nice products. One I have been looking is the Hippe-kniep (Sodbuster) with either black hardwood or oak handle. Really tempting. I had the Case Sodbuster and while I liked the blade, the plastic handle not so much. Carbon steel vs. stainless by Case. They also have the one in my picture in smaller size and several new products.
I'm quite a bit behind on this thread. I'll sit down later tonight and get caught up. Here's one I've been carrying all week. It was a gift from Brett some time back, but had broken/shrunk plastic covers. I put some appropriate ebony covers on it, looks just fine to me now! I left the finish on the bolsters and covers a little rough, to give it a more lived-in look. The steel is a joy to use, it sharpens up quite nice.

Fine work there, Jeff, and with the salsa, too, it appears.
Great work, Glenn, that is a very handsome old fellow. Thanks for bringing it back to life.

What a knife! Love the bone, the full blades, and the age spots. At my age, age spots are just a sign of distinction.
A couple of great oldies Misplaced Hillbilly! Are they new to you?![]()

So I finally remember Wooden Wednesday, carried black walnut clad Case, and a rosewood(I promise its rosewood lol) Camillus, take the pic, upload it to the photoshare I use, fall asleep b4 posting. Lol oh well carried them again today for Throwback Thursday.
At the risk of repeating myself, the bone scales on this Eye Witness are incredible. And I'm glad you seem to be bonding with your latest acquisition!
Thanks Jeff . Much appreciated my friend !!!! I do like the aesthetics of the Gunstock Pattern and currently have 4 of them with one more yet to be delivered to the dealer .At the risk of repeating myself, the bone scales on this Eye Witness are incredible. Thanks Stuart! Case made some mighty fine Barlow's!![]()
Throw back Thursday, Cattaraugus Whittler.
These 2 today :
Thanks! The Case I've had a few months now, I found it in a house we trashed out for the mortgage company we contract for. It was in pretty sad shape full of what I'm pretty sure was roofing tar, dull as a butter knife, bad wobble to the blade, bolsters beat up pretty bad too. I cleaned it up, squeezed the bolsters, peened the pin, then smoothed the worst damage on the bolsters, tad weak in the spring, decent from closed to halfstop, but sluggish from half to open. Been flushed several times. The Camillus was one of 5 knives I picked up at an antique store, few weeks ago,a WW2 army px knife. Great walk'n'talk, good and snappy both ways, cleaned some rust from the bolsters, oiled it up,made the bail and it was good to go. 99% sure a mechanic carried it, the gunk that I flushed out was black and smelled like old motor oil, plus the rosewood is stained to the point it looks more like ebony. Only get a hint of reddish color in direct sunlight.A couple of great oldies Misplaced Hillbilly! Are they new to you?
Two nice things here Ken, The photo and the Laguiole.
Since I received my Guardians' Real Lamb Foot (a.k.a. "Ralf") I've been carrying it almost every day to learn it's nuances. I like it very much, and the tapered, pointy straight-edged blade is quite useful. The handle fits my hand extremely well, and is a joy to use. Sometimes, however, I still prefer a longer blade with a belly for certain chores. A large stockman usually filled this bill for me in the past, and still will at times in the future (I love my stockmen!). But a viable alternative is to carry two different single blades, one straight and one bellied. Along with my always, ALWAYS EDC Cadet, here is my dual single blade carry.
