What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I was just mentioning to Alan @joeradza that he and I have twins and almost twins, and then I saw your post, MPHB. I recently posted this pic of a Case M1054LSSP, 3 1/8" lockback. Does the bottom knife look familiar, cousin?

It definitely does look familiar, thougih mine is the small executive and is 2.5" closed.

The model numbers have changed so I don't know if they've always been the executive sereis, but yours is essentially the medium executive lockback.

Oh btw I felt mine needed a little something so I filled in the stamp with some black paint.

Not carrying this today - just showing it to show another like the knives shown above.

Thanks for joining in, and that one is very nice, ED.

Yeh, it seems that I had been a "medium executive" for awhile until I retired. Seriously, thanks for the information. I had missed the model ID in your post until I posted my follow-up. I do like your mod a lot.

I do like an industrious individual, Jeff!
Unfortunately this one has my Grandson George's name on it already!:D;)

And that’s the way it should be. My Granddad had three pocket knives, and now I treasure them.

And by hook or by crook, my grandson will get some or all of mine.

Voluptuous vintage knife, Nick! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the thoroughly thematic thrill, Ken! ;):cool:

Alan, I'm glad you only post at most two of your knives at a time; I don't think my system could handle larger doses of such sublime knives!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Congrats on the return of an old favorite, @spyderg !!:cool::thumbsup:

You're an international man of mystery, Leslie! :D:cool: Congrats on that South African beauty!:thumbsup:

Thanks, Stuart. :) I'm glad I can give you a challenge in your "Pick a winner from GT's choices" game. ;)

I'm a BIG fan of Rough Rider amber jigged bone (and the amber RR canoe was my first of MANY canoes)!:thumbsup::cool:

I'm sure getting a lot of vicarious enjoyment from your trip pics, Harry; thanks!:cool::thumbsup: And that stag 73 on the LF&C board is superb!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. :) I have to confess that the edge on the Buck stag canoe is straight from the factory. I sure like the wide bevels, though, because I can sharpen those much easier.

The ebb and flow of name popularity over time is interesting. Some of my relatives had names not currently very common.
Bernice (Bernie) was my wife's mom, my mom was Ettamae (Mae), and my mom's mom was Minnie.

Thanks, Jack. :) Handsome hardware pair!:cool::thumbsup:

Nice 72, John!:cool::thumbsup: Wood handles? Hope you caught your limit! ;)

Lot of cryptic posts about that Böker model!??! What model is it?

Arrowhead or knife or both?

Condolences again, Shawn. Sounds like you're having a good trip, though!:cool:

Couple of impressive stag models, Stuart!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Fascinating covers, Gev! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

We live in a time of "alternate facts", Randy! :D:D

Thanks, Dean. :) I totally agree about that equal-end spearpoint federal shield S&M!

I can see why they'd get a repeat performance!:cool::thumbsup:

Superior stag bone, Dave! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, Tom. :) Auspicious autumnal arrangement!:thumbsup::cool:

Your stag Churchill is a champ, Ron!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

What date is it?? Is that REALLY your sharpening stone, or are we getting set up for some sort of seasonal deception?? ;)

Man, I like that knife of yours!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Tough to beat that pair!!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

This EVERY day:

I love those chestnut bone sodbusters. I’ve wanted one for awhile, and you’re wearing down my willpower...

I had this one in my pocket today. It was a lazy Sunday with my girlfriend today so the knife acted note as a worry stone than an actual tool.

Thanks for joining in, and that one is very nice, ED.

Thanks , it was easy and only took seconds.
Just apply some paint then a dab of acetone on a cotton swab to remove it from everywhere but the recesses.
As far as the info goes all was gleaned by cruising the Case website.
It appears most if not all of the brushed stainless lockbaks they've offered are still in production and listed as some form of executive model.

One of my favorite pairs as well...

Me, too! ;)

Those complement each other very well, Taylor!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Case Barehead Jack today

Rachel and Steve, those Case jacks are so satisfying to see!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hope everybody has a Spectacular Sunday.
Cool pic, John!:cool::thumbsup: My beloved and bad Lions have the Patriots tonight; what are my chances at spectacularity on the NFL front??

Stag, real or faux is good by me.
+ 5K! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The Sunday morning answer to my prayers is several straight days of on and off rain? Needing something to brighten my day, I picked these two to tote today (it helped that I already had pics of them): two Case doctor's knives (they look to be specialists).

Another shot of the mark sides shows how weird it is to photograph abalone or pearl covers.

Maybe these will be my lucky totems to revive my chances in a neighborly NFL "betting" pool.

Those knives are totally outside my experience with knives - weird and wonderful, Stuart!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Good Golly!! :eek::thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Today with a Portuguese knife from Martins-Paloçoulo, offered by my work colleagues for my birthday!!!

Happy Birthday, Senhor Pinto, and congratulations on the impressive gift of cutlery!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks GT. It has Rosewood handles.
I did not catch my limit, in fact I got skunked. I did miss a couple of tiny ones though and that adds a little excitement. Mostly, it's just nice getting out on the river.
Thanks for the info, and the exemplary attitude, John! :):cool:

Gary I always love reading your responses but this has to be your best one ever.:thumbsup::cool:

I just bought this 1975 Russell Barlow it was NOS with all the original goodies.

Thanks, Randy, and congrats on the grand new Barlow!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, GT, and that stag really lives up to its name. Wouldn't that have been a great prize in the box!
- Stuart
Sure would have been, best prize ever! ;) I have to get groceries tomorrow morning, and hope to find a couple of boxes of CrackerJack (to use for photo purposes, of course ).

Ha! Nothing gets past your notice. :D I often meet up with a friend on Saturdays for lunch and knife appreciation / sharpening. He's been experimenting with different types of whetstones, and wondered if a chunk of sandstone would work. He found a flat piece and sanded it level and wanted me to give it a try on simple carbon steel. I guess it worked okay, but I liked it better for a knife stand.

I did manage to get a nice edge on the Miller Bros, using good old Arkansas stones. I really had my doubts about whether it was fixable, so being able to actually carry and use it this weekend has me smiling. :)
G3binvB.jpg
Thanks for the info; I thought that looked like a flat piece of sandstone! :) Miller Mission accomplished!!:thumbsup::cool:

...
Thank, Gary! A truly attractive EVERY day carry.:thumbsup:
Sunday carry this week.

Thanks for the SBJr compliment, Dean, and your Sunday carry is most XLent!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Boker Tech Tool 1. They have several models with more features but the one I have is a single blade 12c27 steel. It came with a pocket clip and glass breaker but I removed the first and the second after some apply plier advice :)
Thanks for the info, Joshua (although I kind of miss the mystique ;)).:)

I just picked up this little Case 301L yesterday so far I really like it, and I'll be carrying it for a while.

It cuts very well as Case knives usually do, and despite being really small and thin it feels pretty good in hand.
Very cool, and your paint job, shown later, is splendid!!:cool::thumbsup:

Today is a picture-perfect day for grilling, but strangely enough I was in the mood for pasta :).

I didn't even know I was in the mood for pasta until I saw your photo, Tom! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This one for the weekend. No babying going on.

Didn't take you long to get that lambsfoot thoroughly "broken in"!:cool::cool:

This Rough Rider stockman and Vic Minichamp (showing the tools I use the most) are a couple more knives that I carry every day of the year:

I officially retired on September 1, and since then this "retirement knife" has been added to my constant carry set:

Wow! Go on a three day bird hunt and this thread grows exponentially! Lots of good pics and reading this evening.
Thissun was my hunting companion along with a Buck 110 smoke jumper in its sheath on my belt. Both saw use in food prep, snipping seegars, etc.. etc...
Except when someone (with 3 trucks loaded with tools) asked to borrow it to scrape the posts of battery on a deer feeder. I declined thatun and got him a screwdriver and a brass bush from my toolbox...

I’m just getting to the point where I can catch up after the trip to the desert SW. Left again on Thursday for Eastern WA and Northern Idaho for a long weekend. Met up with a buddy Thursday night in Idaho. He had always carried an Uncle Henry or an Old Timer Stockman pattern for at least the last 40 plus years. He uses his knives daily at work so they see a stone at least once a week. When Schrade folded he tried some of the imported Schrade knives but thought the blades were not as good. (His words, not mine, not bashing the imports). So on Thursday I carried this 8OT long enough to get it to Idaho and put it down in front of the beer I ordered for him. He was happy enough he paid for our burgers and beer:) He even called me again today to thank me for it.

I also had an 881 with me the whole weekend until I got home today. It opened some smoked fish for a little tailgating at a college football game yesterday but that was about it. I grabbed the Frontier to go take care of the jungle my yard had become in my absence once I got home today.

Cool pic, John!:cool::thumbsup: My beloved and bad Lions have the Patriots tonight; what are my chances at spectacularity on the NFL front??

As of this reply, they are doing OK!!

Those knives are totally outside my experience with knives - weird and wonderful, Stuart!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Mine, too. Thanks.

I officially retired on September 1, and since then this "retirement knife" has been added to my constant carry set:

CONGRATULATIONS, and welcome to your 'nother life. That retirement Alox SAK is very special. I've been retired since April 1, 2011 (yes, I picked that day) and haven't had time to look back much. I'm busier than ever, though in a "more better" way. Enjoy it all, GT.

Except when someone (with 3 trucks loaded with tools) asked to borrow it to scrape the posts of battery on a deer feeder. I declined thatun and got him a screwdriver and a brass bush from my toolbox...

Enuff said. I hope that the hunt was more comforting.

So on Thursday I carried this 8OT long enough to get it to Idaho and put it down in front of the beer I ordered for him. He was happy enough he paid for our burgers and beer:) He even called me again today to thank me for it.

And THAT is what this is all about. Appreciation of all that we have and have been given, so that we can make others' lives all the better. We should could use more of this.

Thanks, and congrats on the retirement.

They also had the medium executive lockback for only a couple dollars more, but for some reason I was drawn to the little guy.
