What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I mentioned a few days ago that one of the first knives I ever bought was a brand new 33OT back in the 70's. Just a great knife as is, but I really love your mod!
You mentioned wrestling a bit getting the spring tension right. Was it the center pin that caused the trouble? I bought two broken 194OT trappers. One had a good blade, but a broken spring, the other had no blade, but a good spring. I made one decent knife out of the two ~ not perfect, but a good learning experience. I just drilled through for the hinge pin. I had no idea how to deal with the Swinden key.
And yes, the micarta looks wonderful!

Really nice!

No, it was the height of the backspring that was a struggle on the little 104ot, it took a while to get it flush. Spring tension is good, she's very snappy! I think I cut the handles off, or got the pin holes wrong or something... those Swinden keys are touchy. I've had a little bit of luck re-using them by flattening out the keyhole opening on the inside of the liners, but they always develop play again unfortunately...

This came in yesterday - a pioneer from my birth year... can't help but carry it today :D

That’s real nice!

I'm SO far behind in this thread, and it's already past my bedtime, so I won't even attempt to catch up until tomorrow. But I thought I should post another installment of some of the knives I've been carrying all week. By coincidence, my rotation schedule has me with FIVE Rough Riders this week!:thumbsup: One was a stag bone canoe that I posted earlier. The other four are:
Watchpocket Knife - RR tobacco bone cannitler
sXLcNKq.jpg

Big Knife - RR amber jigged bone trapper (too big for my taste, but gotta give it SOME pocket time )
trapper.closed.jpg

Miscellaneous Knife of the Week - RR medium trapper (a size MUCH more to my liking)
med.trap.closed.jpg

Peanut-like Knife of the Week - RR baby copperhead

That's a capital canoe, GT, just captivating/

Since it's after 3:00 am your time as I write this, hopefully you will get my best wishes for a nice hike while you drink your morning coffee. Or should I say tea?
[/QUOTE]

Thank you very much Jeff, I had an excellent hike yesterday :) If I'm at home, I generally start my day with tea, followed soon after by my first cup of coffee ;)

This is Nick. He used to be a Nicholson file, and he was adopted from the flea market for a 50 cent adoption fee. He wears elk stag for Stagurday.View attachment 994456

Nick is very cool

That's a looker GT, I love RR's smooth tobacco bone and acorn shield models

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and that you have a super Sunday :)

Beauty and The Beast for me today! :D ;)

The Adventures of Wilhelm...
I wanted to beat the heat today so I headed up to the Sierras...and Wilhelm came along with me.

Congrats on the intriguing new knife, Darren, and thanks for the appealing pics of the hike!:cool::thumbsup:

These two today! :) ...

Gonna have to BOOT me off The Porch because I'm GREEN with envy! ;) Congrats on a vivacious, verdant choice, Ron!:cool::thumbsup:

These two today. I am not able to capture the color of this copper farmer very well, it always looks better to me in person than it does in photos.

Your rainbow of Farmers look great to me, Tom, including that compelling copper version!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
Thanks GT! Nice carries, the Muskrat looks to be lightweight but ready for duty. ...
Thanks, Tom. :) I'm really pleased with a couple of Case Caliber models I picked up.
This sodbuster junior arrived yesterday. I’ll admit that at first I found the black blade hideous, it looked much more grey in the pictures online. But it is growing on me now. I really like the bone scales, and it feels heavier than the plastic version....
Congrats on the stag bone (I guess Case calls it "bone stag") SBJr, Tom; very handsome (alone and paired with the light-colored BSK)!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm totin' this John Primble (Belknap Hdwe) English Jack with me as I go shopping for some new porter and stout supplies. Seems only fitting.

Your horn covered knives are gorgeous!

Love the horn on the lambsfoot!:cool:

Thank you my friend, that's some smashing horn

Thank you, Gary! That's a fine pair of keratin carries you posted today. :D:thumbsup:
...
All of your trio are fine choices, but that 85 looks robustly handsome. Any pics of it open?

- Stuart
Dean, John, Spaten, Jack, Gary, and Stuart, thanks for hailing my horn carries. :)
Gary, "keratin carries" expanded my vocabulary!:)
Stuart, here's a pic of the 85 with blades deployed:

Today with one more Portuguese, this is from the region of the West, made entirely in stainless steel and with a scrimshaw (engraving) in low relief by the craftsman Paulo Correia, it is a Trout and plants.
As you can see from the photos, it is a cutlery from 2010 (Lombo do Ferreiro)!
It is a small knife with length the 3 1/4" (8 cm).:)

My mind is a mystery to me. My first thought on seeing your fine photo of your delectable dark duo was "Circles get the square!" (Did they ever show the TV game show "Hollywood Squares" in the UK?)

It's almost October and high temperatures won't get above mid 80s this weekend. Fall is in the air! :D

Going light today, so I'm totin' this Böker 93 slim trapper (1960-1970) in my pocket. The sun is finally out for a while (or so it is predicted), but I'm keeping rubber boots at hand.

Can't really see it, but a light patina is already developing. That little divot swirl at the butt has become the perfect spot to rub my thumb when the knife is closed.

I'm afraid I never saw that one GT, but thank you for the compliment my friend, and I hope you have a nice Sunday :)

Thanks, I did. Long and slow on the belt sander keeping it cool, to get it shaped, then a couple cycles in the oven to temper it so drill bits and files would not just skip off. Once again, the handles are cut from elk antler dog chews from wallymart.
Best thing about a cold snap is bye bye skeeters. We had about 6” of rain on labor day weekend, and exactly two weeks later, had an unbelievable hatch of ravenous bloodsuckers. It was actually panic inducing even after bathing in 100% deet.

Are you trying to start something with Oddball Saturday? Cuz I do have some oddballs!
Very nice work, and I've got to check out the check out the dog chew isle next time I go to WM.
I'm afraid Fall will never get here, they are expecting temps back up to mid or high 80s next week, and I can hardly go out on the porch without being bled by skeeters.:mad:

We'll just have to see if Oddball Saturdays catches on. ;)
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I had a nice time out at lunch yesterday, and tipped the waitress with a Rough Rider Lady Leg knife. She loved it! Also finally managed to get a good edge on this CK Italy hawkbill congress

I'm carrying it and a big rosewood lambsfoot today.

Hope the weather gets better for you soon Rachel :) That's a nice tip, I have given a few of those knives away myself, and they have always been well-received :) Nice pairing there :)

Thanks, GT. The Böker trapper does slice like a scalpel. Your teardrop is all that a knife needs to be and great looking to boot. Thanks for the opened view. Spear and sheepfoot, I can see why it's a favorite.
