What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Stag/Horn Knife of this week is this Schrade-Wostenholm I*XL canoe (thanks, cchu518):

Excellent english knife, I really like...

My Peanut-ish Knife of the Week, a Case chestnut bone CV Swayback Jack (thanks, Paul), isn't very peanut-like except for being a small 2-blade jack, but classifying it that way allows me to carry it more often! ;)
Beautiful bone on that swayback, Gary! Great color, and jigging, with a perfect patina!

Your picture of a Swayback Jack made me realize what an idiot I can be. I have one much like it, and I like it very very much. When Case discontinued production of the model, I found myself hardly ever carrying it, because I knew it couldn't be easily replaced. I realized that since I'm carrying a 130-140 year old mother-of-pearl knife by an obscure maker (Peters Cutlery of Solingen-Merscheid) with hardly a concern, I should go ahead and pull the SBJ out of the drawer.
They are both in my pocket today. :)

Something about the covers on this 1974 Case 85 physician's knife said "aftermarket modification". Possibly, it was the odd redundant pins at the bottom of the mark side. The fact that the pattern number stamped on the tang, 6185, calls for bone covers confirmed it. Still, with Case's brief re-introduction of the 85s, it's a fun conversation piece to carry.

It's weird how we make decisions on our carry patterns. I'll carry a custom but not a $25 Case because its special to me or search for a particular knife to carry and then only carry it but never use it.

These jigged chestnut bone CV SBJs make us do strange things. o_O Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to find one (a 2009) and knowing how prized they are I bought it. It's a great knife and, in fact, it's in my pocket now. But... a while after that I found another 2009 in another store. Despite my insisting that I only buy knives to carry, I bought that one also, put a thin coat of mineral oil on the blades, and put it back in the box as a "backup" SBJ. So far it's my only "safe queen".
